THE TUNNEL OF LOVE MEME


Surely you've seen this sort of ride before, if not in person, on TV or in cartoons. The tunnel of love has become a staple, almost a trope in itself, of both comedy and romance. Most traditional versions lend themselves very well to that kind of awkward entertainment: the tiny, often swan-shaped, boats for two, the smelly and questionable water, and the garish colors and music that accompany the ride. Yes, there's a certain appeal to them.

Well, you'll see that soon enough. The Tunnel of Love you've found yourself on now has all this and more, including a fence that separates the two waiting lines. That means there's no way to know who you'll end up riding with. It might be a complete stranger or someone you know very well. Hopefully, whoever you get, the two of you will have a nice little ride together.

That is, if you can ignore some of the more...odd effects.

HOW TO PLAY
1. Leave a comment with your character. As per usual, you will probably want to list the character's name, canon, and any preferences in the subject line. You can either leave the comment blank or come up with a scenario.
2. Other people will comment. Congratulations, your characters are now stuck, willingly or unwillingly, on the ride together.
3. One of you rolls to determine what spell/effect/general ~magic~ will shape the scene.
4. Play!

OPTIONS
1. LOVE: The most obvious. No matter if they're complete strangers or otherwise, the two people in the boat together are now in love. It's not just a simple, understated love, either. Your feelings are of the intense, let's-elope-screw-everyone-else variety. NO ONE CAN STOP YOU AS LONG AS YOU'RE TOGETHER!~

2. LUST: Rather than being struck with the love bug, you suddenly want to bone this other person. God, they're everything you've ever wanted and you have to have them right here, right now. Who cares if you're on a carnival ride and in a tiny boat? You've gotta get your fix.

3. HATE: Uh oh. Something's gone horribly wrong, and instead of feeling positive emotions for your companion, you hate their guts. Nothing in this world disgusts you more than them. In fact, you might be so enraged by their presence that you take advantage of the dark atmosphere to hurt them.

4. FRIENDSHIP: Hey, it could be worse. At least the person you're stuck with is cool. The two of you have really gotten on, and there's a camaraderie here that's welcome. Maybe you'll pass the time making fun of how corny the ride is? That's a time honored tradition.

5. BAD LUCK: Remember that one episode of [INSERT 90s SHOW HERE] where the couple got their date sabotaged? That's happening to you guys. Your boat is sinking, or the water is spraying up in your faces. Or worst possible scenario, the ride stops in the most obnoxious part of the tunnel. You have to watch flashing cupids for a good hour before someone rescues you.

It had all started when they came to the amusement park.

Well, technically it had started when Pinkie Pie banged insistently on Twilight's door until her grumpy friend finally opened up and demanded to know what Pinkie wanted with her at five in the morning. But that was hardly a rare occurrence. Going to a place like this... well, that was a little more special.

And honestly, Twilight hadn't really been sure why Pinkie had dragged her along, specifically, rather than one of the others. Or all of the others. Okay, sure, AJ was probably busy on the farm, and Rarity with her boutique, but Fluttershy or Rainbow would have been happy to go... well, Rainbow would have. Fluttershy might not have enjoyed the whole "giant crowd of very loud people" thing.

Still, Pinkie had brought her, and honestly Twilight had been kind of appreciative of it after the sleep fog faded from her mind. She'd been going into one of her reclusive stages recently, and it felt good to get out and about for a while. Though she'd been regretting eating so much sugar right before getting on that roller coaster with all the loops... how Pinkie had managed to go through that without a queasy stomach, she'd never know.

But her bouncy friend seemed to have noticed Twilight's state, and had suggested something a little gentler for their next one. A boat ride! Twilight had agreed readily, and that was how the two found themselves seated in the pink boat they were currently in, getting ready to sail off into the dark tunnel in front of them.

As her stomach started to settle, Twi took note of their surroundings, and abruptly a question entered her mind.

"Um, Pinkie. Isn't this the tunnel of... love?"

[This is what you would call the most covert operation to Turk history. There had been rumors that this so called 'Tunnel of Love" was actually a front to a a terrorist group that wanted to take down the government. At least...that's what the text she got with the mission objectives.

Her nose had been buried in her phone, checking emails and the details of her mission, when he joined her. Peeking out of the corner of her eye, she caught the movement of somebody sitting beside her and, upon a second glance, she lowered the phone.]

"Kaiji? What are you doing here?"

[Odo is testing the ride. He wouldn't go on his own, but he figured Nerys could want to go. So he's testing it to see if it's actually enjoyable, as opposed to cheesy as hell, as he's expecting, and if it's actually SAFE.

Which... it doesn't look like. Things started to go wrong not even ten seconds after the start. the boat started to fill up with water. Then he got splashed a couple times, and now he could swear he can hear some circuitry dying from water exposure.

All different kinds of safe, except, you know, safe.

[ ah, the lights! the water! the adorable plastic cherubs! this is midgardian entertainment at its very quaintest. not for the first time, loki is stricken with awe at this realm and its peoples; how delightfully cheesy it all is. loki clasps his gloved hands together and leans toward this poor sap who's somehow had the poor luck to be paired with loki. ]

Ah .. ! I am not certain whether it is the awful, tinny music crooning romance into my soul, or the garish pink neon lights casting a fair flush upon your most milky and beautiful skin, but I can feel the love in the air tonight, my friend!
