GROWING CLOSER On occasion, the fun in playing a romantic relationship is not actually playing the relationship proper, but the build up. The characters grow closer, frozen hearts can thaw, emotional barriers may fall, and insight is gained, both about self and potential partners... ...plus, it can be entertaining as all heck to play either a. awkward dancing around the subject, if your character is that type, or b. embracing all that warming up. A little of column A, a little of column B may scratch an itch you never knew you had. Play one little vignette in time. You may find yourself craving some more. Comment with your character, preferences, info, etc. Reply to others & thread it alll out. Have fun, guys!

[ ... for the record, noctis is never going to get the appeal of camping.

there are bugs everywhere, the hike to their campsite managed to rub a stinging set of blisters on his heels, and the hard ground is a pretty poor comparison to the comfortable bed back in his apartment. plus, it means that gladio has early morning access to him, and noctis is more than a little suspicious that the older man derives a certain amount of sadistic pleasure in dragging him out of his bedroll at dawn for a bout of training.

but... even despite all of that, it doesn't exactly mean that noctis doesn't like going. it's a pretty rare chance to get outside of the city proper, and there's a part of him that always feels like it's itching for just a little taste of this sort of freedom. away from the weight of his responsibilities, away from covert glances and whispers, away from his front-row seat to watching his father get just a little older (a little weaker) each and every day. it's nothing more than a temporary escape, and noctis knows that, but it's enough.

and besides, there's usually a stream or two nearby, and gladio usually doesn't protest (too much) if noctis spends a solid chunk of his afternoons fishing. (especially not whenever he manages to catch something big enough to make for a proper dinner.)

at the moment, though, he's sprawled out on his back and sucking wind, muscles aching in overworked protest and lungs burning in his chest. ... which is bad enough, but the fact that gladio looks like he could still go another few rounds and then arm wrestle a behemoth afterwards always adds insult to injury. it takes effort to resist the urge to stick his tongue out at him. (well, effort and the clear mental picture of the sort of Noise Of Disapproval ignis would make at that, were he around.)

... it's weird, though. because he feels... happy? lighter, at least. he didn't ever manage to take gladio down, but he did manage a few hits inside the other man's guard, and there's a warm buzz of satisfaction in his chest that tingles all the way down into his fingertips and toes. a nice rush of post-adrenaline endorphin high, maybe, or just the simple pleasure of a battle hard fought. whatever it is, even despite the exertion, it's not half-bad. ]

... I think I know why you like it out here. [ eyes closed, voice quiet. ] Away from the Crown City, I mean.

[ and then a snort. ] It'd be better if there was air conditioning, though.
