Typically, he was asked to look after kids 10 and under, but today's charge was well into teenagerdom. Maybe they just had super protective parents? At any rate, he was the one who'd been recommended to them by another client, and it wasn't like that new video game console was going to pay for itself. Besides, an older kid should be easy money!

[He ought to know better.

After all, Sabo might not be quite young enough to be his child - well, save for the unlikely scenario of him being a father at sixteen - but the fact that he was still closer in age to Malahide than to him was hardly comforting. He was pretty certain that 36-year-old men should avoid chasing after 20-year-olds full stop, or possibly an exclamation point, but somehow he'd managed to whittle the certainty of that statement down to 'ellipses, question mark'. Which made it a very weak defense in a situation like this.

Luvander had worked for the Revolutionary Army for quite a while now, but at a separate outpost, and partly undercover. About a year and a half ago, that position had been endangered for all of them, and they'd had to evacuate to the main base. It had been a big change in a lot of ways, and fraught with a few personal tragedies, but the notable change in this context was that Luvander's Sabo-related problems had very quickly started there.

The younger man had already outranked him back then, something Luvander felt a lot less rancor about than some people he could mention. Because he worked well with him, followed his orders, and had a useful power around someone who could be as reckless as Sabo - he figured Koala had been the one to push that argument - he'd been assigned to work directly under him. The- Well, the tension between them had picked up fairly quickly from then, and had only escalated during the year.

Right up until this moment, with Luvander briskly shoving Sabo's shirt aside so he could touch his skin and check for injuries after a battle. Finding none, he'd nonetheless allowed his hands to linger longer than they should, and as he looked up into Sabo's eyes he'd quickly realized that he'd noticed. And instead of quickly and sensibly pulling his hands away... he hadn't. Now he was just sitting there, meeting Sabo's gaze with his hands still splayed across his abdomen, the simple touch of skin against skin made more intimate by every second he didn't pull away from it.

He really ought to know better... but apparently he didn't.]

It's possible I'm trying to see how awkward I can make this for both of us. [Well, that remark was surely going to make things better. Certainly.]


((Going to assume that for the purposes of this AU, Malahide's mom is not Yesfir (lol) but rather a fellow revolutionary who probably did the whole "pretending to be married" thing with Luvander - and apparently did so v well - and ended up dying in the process of moving from their old location.))

There weren't many people at court without a title that it was worth the Queen's handmaid paying attention to, but Chuck was both one of the King's friends back when the King had been a hellraising Prince and was one of the richest people in the kingdom, and certainly the one with the most liquid wealth. The very same lords that sneered at him for not having a title mostly owed him money, and he had called all of one Earl's debts in at the same time, utterly ruining the man.

He himself had in his younger days slept most of his way through the court - but once he was married he'd been utterly faithful as far as anyone could tell. Still drinking, still throwing parties, but only sleeping with the wife he had been very much in love with until she died in childbirth little over a year ago. Afterwards he'd thrown himself into his trade, expanding the fortune he inherited, but a few people had noticed that at court his eyes had started to wander in a way they simply hadn't while he had been married.

OOC: I hope the background works for you? The three ways I'd suggest that she chases him are at a drunken party, a formal party, or just slipping into his chambers. The king is of course still married to Catherine.
