Sure, you've got your obvious proposals. Marriage happens all the time. But what about other kinds of proposals? You're trying to get your boss to agree to the project you want to head. You want to go into business with your best friend. You want to have a kid. You're trying to suggest something to have for dinner. You're trying to build a superhero team. The possibilities are endless.
TYPE
1. FRIENDLY Whether you want to take your bromance to the next level or need to crash a few days, you need to ask your friend to agree to what you're throwing down. 2. BUSINESSLIKE Your boss wants you to come up with a project in the next hour! You're Batman and Wonder Woman setting up the Justice League!! You want to build a new Arby's franchise!! 3. ROMANTIC You want to date. Or marry. Or have a kid. Or get a divorce. Wait, what? 4. MISC Anything that doesn't fit.
SCENARIOS
1. WINGMAN Your friend needs to LOCK THAT SHIT DOWN but they either don't realize it or too scared. Can you make the proposal for them? Better hope it doesn't fuck anything up. 2. PERFECTION Your horse and carriage got you the engagement. Your powerpoint presentation got you the team leader position. Whatever it is, it went swimmingly. 3. DISASTER Your significant other swallowed the ring in the champagne. You spilled coffee on your boss. Better try to clean this mess up. 4. LAZY You're just sitting around and the thought pops into your head. Why not, right? What could possibly go wrong? 5. AWKWARD Either you've misjudged or it's just the wrong time, but, well... Things didn't go HORRIBLY but they're just. Weird now. Pick up the pieces and try again. At least you didn't... 6. CHICKEN OUT You were so ready. So so ready. But when it came time, you choked. Can you change the subject fast enough? Is your boss looking at you like you're crazy? 7. OVERBLOWN Did you really need the flash mob just to ask your friend out to the movies? 8. MISC Anything left over!! What will you put here? Whatever man, we're not the cops. Have fun.
As always, these are just suggestions. Make up anything you want, as long as you're having fun!
They've been dating for ages. Or, well, what feels like ages - a few years, certainly, and it's not the dragging on kind of ages - it's the warm, homey kind of ages, the ages that make you hope they last forever and never, ever end. It's comfortable like breathing in a way that still makes her feel like she has butterflies in her stomach. Her sister doesn't approve of him but really she doesn't care. Can't care, when she feels like this. A small flame has grown into something all-encompassing and so far, nothing has come of it but that. Not that she doesn't love it like she loves James, but she's selfish and wants more. The test-run of living together has gone well over a year now and nothing catastrophic has come of it. (Petunia doesn't approve of that, either.)
She's been thinking about this for a while now but the clincher is a conversation she'd had recently with James' mother. Little things. Things are so tense all around them, sharp and bitter in war-time, but they're always steadfast. A strong and united force to be reckoned with.
It's late afternoon when Lily catches James in the kitchen and curves behind him, arms around his torso with her hands clutching at the fabric of his shirt as she burrows against his back slightly. It's usual, affectionate, lets her breathe him in and keep him close in her lungs. Then she lifts her head to place her chin on his shoulder with a pleasant little hum. "We should do something nice tonight, I think. I also think it's your turn to pick what said nice thing is."
It is his turn to pick and she won't mind whatever it happens to be, staying in, going out, whatever. She just hopes it's going to facilitate what she wants to do.
True, James Potter has already had the pleasure of marrying Lily Potter, née Evans, who is not far off at the moment minding the tea and keeping the cat hedged into the kitchen. Also true, Remus Lupin has already clearly aligned the romantic piece of own life with Sirius Black, who is also not far off and will undoubtedly be at the door just behind Remus at the door. Also also true, the invitation was simply "it's been ages; pop over for dinner."
Still, James is pretty sure this is perfectly normal. Definitely.
So all Remus will get is a muffled "Oi, it's open!" from the other side when he knocks. What he'll see when he dares to push the door open will be a front hall crammed dramatically full of roses--none of which have caught on fire yet despite the also ridiculous number of candles stuck here and there among them. Where the slightly tinny version of 'How Deep Is Your Love' is playing from is also unclear, but The Bee Gees have always been essentially magic, surely.
In the middle, the positive king of normalcy, is James, looking properly neat and tidy (a sure sign that Lily's in on the entire endeavour). The opening of the door will send him immediately down onto one knee in a perhaps unnecessarily flourishing fashion.
((All types of proposals welcomed. If he's the one proposing something, then scenarios 1, 2, 5, and 8 are most likely. However, all scenarios are open if he's the one being proposed to.))
Just saying it is like a soothing balm. Something healing and relaxing and cleansing. Regulus doesn't think he'll ever feel clean again but this helps. Knowing he helped end the war helps. Being free of spying helps. Being free at all helps. It's astounding how well they've done for themselves. (Stole a Horcrux, gave information that saved the Potters, he's a veritable hero. He still feels the villain.)
Things are quiet now though. Quiet and calm and still. Living with Remus is quiet and calm and still as well, sharing a flat that Regulus pays for with his inheritance (money shared with Sirius, naturally) as he never wants to return to his childhood home ever again. It's easy to get comfortable, to feel like maybe he is some kind of worthwhile now that everything is over. He's been mulling this thought in his head ever since they got back together - back being a misnomer as they'd only been put on hold - and realizing that yes, nothing has actually changed. It makes it easier to decide.
He's always been a planner, slick and sly and clever. It's evening when he walks into the sitting room, thunk of his cane heavy on the hardwood. There's not much to be done for it even now - mid-twenties and looking at a life relying on a cane to walk. He can't help but prefer it to the alternative though. Still, it means it's always easy to tell where he is in the flat. "Hello," he starts as he moves to sit on the sofa next to Remus. "Busy?"
He knows the other man isn't, but you've got to start somewhere.
((If she's the proposer, she wouldn't be Lazy or Overblown about it. However, she might be prone to Chicken(ing) Out if the type's Romantic. OTA on everything else.))
[what if Genie asks Natsumi to be in a more committed kind of relationship with her? I don't know that she believes in marriage, per se, but just... something more official than their usual "occasional fucking and egg-bearing"?]
