and since we've no place to go

❄ it's quiet
and the snow's beautiful tonight
snowfall;
stage i; none, streets are already blanketed in white.
stage ii; very light and intermittent.
stage iii; light - moderate. lasts longer periods.
stage iv; continuous, heavy snowfall.
stage v; the hardest of cores - blizzards, snowstorms, you name it.
scenarios;
① fuck the police, this is the best time for a walk. hope you've got a nice thick coat on.
② stranded in the buttcrack of nowheresville? weren't you watching the time? now you've gone and missed that last bus out of there. or maybe you're lost, somehow. what do?
③ literally chilling, in this weather, is quite easy to do. sitting around relaxing in it is a wee more difficult, but sometimes much more enjoyable, especially if shelter can be found. the snow is beautiful to watch, after all.
④ the weather's not going to stop you. your snow fort's packed full of ammo and ready to go. those aren't snow angels over there; they mark where the poor souls you've downed have fallen. be careful with that snowman's head!!
⑤ you're about fifty miles from civilization but there's a roof over your head, so never mind the chilly draught, right? right. you mightn't be the only one lucky enough to stumble upon this little shelter, though. remember to share the blanket.
⑥ everyone stuck outside should be jelly. you've got a fireplace and hot cocoa and damn if it isn't awesome. a heater's not quite so romantic, but it'd do. there'd better be a backup generator in case the power trips.
⑦ mix and match, or make up your own.

We can always rain check it if we need to.

[ Her hand returns to her back, where the snowball is, and when she looks up at him it's with an utterly shit-eating grin-- ]
A snow check?
[ Get it? Because it's snowing? ]

and then he coughs. Turns his head away and covers his mouth with a fist as he keeps coughing. Except after that first one the pattern holds and - its not coughing. It's a rough laughter, half there, half not, exhales of broken sound. And, still walking, he manages a:]
That's terrible.

You still laughed, though!
no subject
I laughed. What can I say? I like bad jokes. They're my kryptonite.

She's kind of starting to see why the girls she's acquainted herself with in the class are infatuated with him.
Smugly, she just straight up fingerguns at him. ]
A-ha! I've figured out your weakness! [ no you didn't Hana he literally just told you what it was ] Bad dad jokes!
Don't worry, your secret's safe with me. Your rep as the number one coolest guy around can stay intact.
no subject
That's a relief. I'd hate to have my love of dad jokes used against me. [Another chuckle and he looks up at the stars overhead.] I don't think I have to worry about any reputation though. I haven't done anything to earn one. But thanks all the same.

D.Va just gives a shrug of her shoulders before she tosses the snowball up a little bit in one hand, and then catches it as she starts walking, too. It only crumbles a little bit. ]
If you say so! I'm just saying, I hear people gushing about you whenever class lets out.
no subject
Just as long as they're not gushing that I make things too hard to understand. What about you? [He's intentionally changing the subject.] What are your plans after finals?
no subject
I think I have a tourney coming up soon. [ think?? she should probably check. ] But I don't have any filming coming up, so... I don't know!

[Everyone falls asleep in class from time to time but the regularity that she does it with tells him she's really got too much going on at the same time and its costing her. He's not about to tell someone that they should slow down, that would be hypocritical of him in the loudest way possible, but he will suggest she take a few moments to breathe and just be herself instead of her work. Whether she takes his advice or not... he's not her dad. Or her manager. He knows his suggestion doesn't carry much weight but he makes it anyway. Someone should be looking out for her. They're almost to her dorm and he thinks... its been a nice evening. Much more relaxing and peaceful than he'd thought it would be. Certainly worth an all-nighter.]
Everyone needs time to recharge.
look at that handsome boy!
When was the last time anyone told her to make time for herself? Or even-- to take a rest? She can't help but chuckle at the thought. There's a reason that the bunny motif fits Hana so well and it's because she just keeps going and going, but...
Recharging actually sounds pretty nice after the mess that is this semester. ]
Okay. Well, I'll probably spend a whole day sleeping after finals, then. No problem!
[ There's a smirk on her face and it's practically audible in her voice, too, as she teases, ] You worried about me, Shiro?
he was might fine looking even before Kerberos
One full day of sleep is a good start but she can't keep going the way she is. His probably isn't the only class she falls asleep in and things only get harder the closer you get to graduation. At some point she's going to have to make a choice between things - or she's going to fall apart and lose them all. He doesn't for a second doubt her determination or her drive - it's just only possible for the human body and the human mind to do so much before it has to shut down in defense. He thinks... this semester might have been dangerously close to that for her if she's sleeping through most of her classes.
So he doesn't smile back at her tease and let her brush him off. Instead, eyes serious and dark, he reaches out and gently touches one of the bunny ears on her beanie before looking down at her eyes as his hand falls back to his side.]
You're an incredible person, Hana. You're trying to do three careers at the same time and carry the weight of them all. I'm not sure your body is going to let you keep it up for much longer. You need to be able to place being human over being a marketable commodity.
no arguments here ;)
Because-- she honestly hadn't been sure how much Shiro cared for her life outside of the class he's helping teach. Of course, it's probably hard to miss when a celebrity is one of your students, but that he's at least aware enough to comment on it surprises her. And he's-- telling her to slow down. Not a lot of people do that, except for her parents. Everyone else has high expectations for her to somehow succeed at everything she does and-- she works really hard to fulfill those expectations. To varying degrees of success.
Not even the people she's been friendly with around campus seem to care much about her life beyond what her next big project is, or which other famous people she's met, or what kinds of freebies she gets, or if they can get into some VIP access place with her--
It's... some how nice and refreshing that Shiro seems to care.
She guesses he's just trying to be a good instructor, but still. To hear those words strikes something in her. ]
... Yeah. You're right.
[ She sets back into motion, falling back into step with him. They're almost to her dorm now. ]
Hey, thanks, Shiro. I guess even I forget that I'm a person sometimes. [ She chuckles. ]
no subject
Well, if you ever need the reminder I'm here. Just don't let others forget it.
[And then they're at the entrance to her dorm and he stops, takes a moment to wave at the RA sitting at the desk inside the building, unaware that he's just caused her to do a double take and turns his attention back to Hana. His eyes pointedly go down to the snowball in her hand. An eyebrow lifts. He looks back up at her.]

Hana supposes it's time to part ways, now; the final is in a few days and after that, she probably won't run into Shiro again. It's a big campus and she doesn't think she'll be taking any classes in the department he's in next semester (or is she? she should probably check. being an undecided major is pretty confusing.) but there's also the fact that she's just all over the place. Somehow, she's starting to think that's a shame-- he seems like a cool guy. Cooler than most of the guys she interacts with, anyway.
She quirks a brow at his pointed stare and realizes-- right. The snowball. She was totally going to chuck it at him earlier but then he outsmarted her by threatening to dump snow from an entire tree branch on her. Clever guy. So she looks down at the snowball, blinks at it, and then, with a sheepish look on her face she looks back at him-- ]
Oh, right. I'm guessing you've had enough of me for a night to have a little snowball fight, huh?
no subject
Maybe, if it wasn't already past three in the morning - he would have been tempted to take her up on it. His throwing arm was pretty accurate. But her question had the hinted smile turning into a grin and he shakes his head.]
I don't know about you but I've got class in the morning. And cold snow down the back of my jacket isn't going to help me get to sleep for the few hours I've got left. [Impulsive he reaches out to tap one of the bunny ears on her hat again, making it sway.] I doubt there's such a thing as too much of you though. I'll be around campus all this weekend. If you want a real fight.
no subject
Because Hana Song never backs down from a challenge, much less ones posed by someone who's like, twice her size. She looks up at his hand when he taps on her hat, but when she looks back at him it's with a fierce, confident smirk. ]
You're on. I'll be done with all my finals by then, too. Bring your A-game.
[ And to punctuate that, she lifts the snowball-armed hand and hurls the snowball-- not at him, but past him. It whirs through the air just beside him and goes splat right in the face of a nearby statue of some person who was probably important to the history of the university at some point in time blah blah blah. ]
no subject
His head turns as the snowball flies past though, eyes widening a little and - she does have pretty damn accurate aim, that's for sure. Which... she is a professional gamer. He assumes good aim is necessary if he remember his days of trying to shoot moving rupees in a mini-game for Legend of Zelda as a child. He turns back with a slightly crooked grin and gives a nod.]
Take care, Hana Song. You'll do great on your final for my class.
[A wave and his hands slip into his coat pockets and he head's for home. Pretty sure that's the last time they'll have a conversation much less anything else outside of class.]
