the dæmon meme

dæmon: the inner-self of a human physically manifested in the form of an animal called a 'dæmon'. the animal is the most intimate expression of the human's inner soul, the form of the animal directly representing that person's true personality.

they are, in effect, the other half of your soul, sharing your thoughts and knowing everything about you. and despite whether or not you want them, they are with you for life, your closest companion.

how do your character's interactions with others CHANGE now that a part of their soul is wandering around with them?

suggested ideas:

1. standard slice of life. you are going about your life, either in your canon, or in the world of the golden compass. hell, even make a modern au. the conflict here is up to you.
2. dæmons are generally the opposite gender of their human partner. however, yours shares your gender. what are the implications of this? how do people treat you in the street?
3. intercision. you have been cut away from your dæmon. you are a freak to the rest of society. you are empty, severed from part of your soul.
4. intimacy. you never touch another's dæmon-- unless, of course, you are in a sexual relationship with them. what's that first touch like?
5. settling. for younger characters: your dæmon has finally chosen their final, adult form. how does this make you feel? you're an adult now, how do your peers view you?

of course, you're free to do whatever you want with this universe, the only requirement is that your character have a dæmon!

I'm up for playing scenes where his daemon is the same gender-- for him, I figure it can tie into being trans and dfab. However, Boom can also be female.

Boom is, personality-wise... well, a crow. They're a playful shithead with a taste for mayhem, much like Junkrat, though they do try to protect him from himself sometimes. They help him steal and collect valuables, and have even learned to help him assemble his explosives.]

For a time, Éomer had assumed her dæmon would have settled into a horse. After all, she spent almost all of her day around horses, and many of the warriors with whom she spent her time had horse dæmons, horses that they rode into battle. But no, Éomer's faithful Sigeweard settled into a magnificent lion when the change came upon him, and for all that he had made the horses nervous, they have grown used to him now, and he is permitted to roam among them without too much more fuss than a few nervous whinnies and some flickering ears.

It helps that he tends to ignore the horses completely, especially when they are settled down to camp, fires lit and tents erected and the low rumble of conversation all that they can hear about them.

That is, of course, until the sudden trill of birdsong pierces the air, and a little brown bird comes flitting into the circle of light Éomer's fire casts, circling once or twice before settling on Sigeweard's head. Éomer has to hide her smile behind her hand, for she knows exactly what that means, and she wouldn't want Ezio to think she's laughing at him and his dæmon.

All werewolves had wolves for daemons.

It was what hunters looked for sometimes. Families with all wolf daemons, with more focus on the adults than the children. (Their daemons, like most humans, didn't settle until later on. But when they did, they were inevitably wolves.) Vigilance a constant necessity when Peter was growing up because of it, though nowadays, with Beacon Hills dipped in the sleepy lull that came with peace and security, the Hales had grown lax.

Even when the Argents had first arrived in town, Talia had advised caution rather than outright fear, citing the code they followed for no reason to be alarmed. We've never done anything to draw their attention, she said, oh so reasonably and calmly, and Peter had thought, then why come to Beacon Hills at all?

Watch out for them, his Calliope said, pressing her cold nose to his palm, and Peter had agreed, sliding his hand through her thick black ruff, savouring the slide of silky fur through his fingers. Maybe Beacon Hills would be a big enough town for the two families. Maybe not.

Certainly it wasn't big enough for him to avoid bumping into Chris Argent at the store, Peter recognising him his own files. It would be safer to avoid contact altogether, or Peter could take this opportunity to get a personal handle on the man, here in the pasta aisle at Ralph’s.

The closer she is though, the more himself he tends to be.]
