He decides to say something because the world can be cruel. Because people are going to be expecting so much out of his children, and he wants to make sure they know he wants nothing but their happiness. Because he remembers being scared and confused about this, before a war made it feel so irrelevant, and everything he's ever done in life is try to make sure his children didn't have to be frightened.

So he finds some time for he and his son to be alone. He finds the courage in him to talk about a part of him that sometimes he still wonders if he'd let live to the fullest.

Hopes his son will get to, if the accidental hints he thinks he's picking up on mean what he and Ginny think they do.
