The Unpopular RP Opinions Meme

THE UNPOPULAR [RP] OPINION MEME

You ever feel like you're the only one? Maybe you're not. You can always commiserate with someone else!

≈ Comment logged in or anon.
≈ Spill your unpopular opinion or confession, as long as it's rp-related. That means stuff about canons, plots, etc.
≈ Rant, vent, and all that good stuff.
≈ Be cool. Being a dick for no good reason is not the point.

I liked the Dating Sim meme. Copy/pasta it may have been, SOMEONE put a lot of thought into that.

Also, live action chars suck. I mean, half offensive half genuine opinion. It kinda ruins the fun for me.

for me at least

I can't stand Anime characters. The vast majority of them are poorly played and feel like the mun is a repressed teenager looking for wank material in a smutty DR. The good ones suffer because of it.

Also, I think OCs get a bad rap (regardless of the PB). People that take the time to make an OC that clearly isn't a puppet/mouthpiece are few and far between, but still get treated like shit just for being an OC - people need to be a little more open minded before judging.

Myself included.

I think people are starting to break away from OCs are bad. I've never run into people who out right treat my characters poorly and I play lots of OCs.

Of course I try very hard to be good with them. Maybe my experience is different than other people. I just rarely run into problems. But I agree with you other anon, people should try playing with OCs more.

I hate planning out plots in minute detail. Can't we just get a general sense of what we want to happen and roll with it from there?

I like it even better if we don't plan anything at all, except 'we're gonna play against each other in XXX situation'.

One of my favorite people to RP with runs an OC that has been told several times that characters won't play with him unless he uses a character from a show with a "similar" personality. WTF, really??

I mean, well crafted OCs rock.

Personally I hate OCs because I've never seen a good one, not even once. They're all 2D cardboard cutouts or Mary Sues/the male equivalent and I wouldn't want them in my game. I wouldn't play in a game that accepts OCs either because they're all so utterly terrible.

If I saw some evidence that good ones exist I might change my mind, but this has yet to happen.

I love it when PM me. Please, please communicate with me so we can make this scene exactly what we want it to be!

It seems like most people RPing from live-action are just... playing the actors and not the characters? And real-person RP is creepy. Take that shit to IJ where it belongs.

I really do dislike Kingdom Hearts 3D. I just think it's so stupid and a complete was of time.

Also, I wish we could have more action or interesting memes on here. Same old shipping or smut memes all the damn time. It gets annoying.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I honestly agree. Underscores can be a bit annoying.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen several memes lately that aren't "shipping or smut", anon. How do you define an interesting meme?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's an unfair assumption, really. I can honestly say that my best threads have been with a player who uses underscores.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I fucking detest LA characters on the whole. I've very rarely seen them played well and the muns tend to be as obnoxious as the characters they play. Most of the time they play them entirely OOC and with no real depth, or repeating the same tired scenes cut directly from the media they were taken from turning them into little more than a running joke, as though their characters had no more personality than a catchphrase or scene they're famous for.

I'd rather not have to play with them at all tbh.

I couldn't agree more.

RE: KH3D

At least tell me you aren't one of those, "Only numbered titles plz" people? As well, KH3D is the first time we got any solid answers on anything, and it cleared up a lot.

i don't know if it's a super unpopular opinion, but i feel like this place is really slowing down. and more than that, threads seem to be worse quality and we seem to have less variety of characters posting. i just miss how we were earlier.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Spread around the hate and people get scared to post.

Or maybe that's not the reason at all, idk. I think we should stop taking things so seriously.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
ia and I play an la character.

Admittedly I don't throw my OCs at strangers as much as I could, but OCs do seem to be more normalised lately.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow I feel bad for them. Because a canon character is going to be WAY different than an OC.

And yes!

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I think what they mean is a username that uses a bunch of them. That can get a little overkill.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-12 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
This is exactly how I feel about anime characters tbh. There isn't usually any depth there, just a staple personality type and a lot of obnoxious over the top reactions in most cases.

I've never played with one, not one that wasn't a self-insert exercise in wish fulfillment with players who were WAY too invested in what happened to the characters emotionally and could never stand for things to not go exactly how the player wanted them to, and I've played in plenty of games that allowed them and had them.
