Things are over. Really, truly, over. They have taken care of everything - or, well, Lily has, dragging certain other parties along with, no matter how reluctant. The first war was over years ago. The second war was over before it even really started. This is not to say that there was no trauma, were no hardships - quite the contrary. But here they are now, whole and hale, and things are done. They can just keep living.

So they do.

It's the middle of summer before Harry's seventh year and Lily's busy sorting things out with the two youngest. It's going to be the only year that all of the kids are in Hogwarts at the same time and Cara is happily telling Gideon all that she can about all the deeply scary things that Hogwarts holds waiting for him, and he's sitting wide-eyed and worried staring at her. She sighs and rolls her eyes fondly, shooing Cara off to go play with Regina, who will be Put Out by watching her younger sister but also be more than willing to do it.

"Gideon," Lily says, crouching in front of him with a smile to press a kiss to his nose (which he promptly scrunches up, because muuuum) and then rocks back on her heels to look at him properly. "Gideon, do you think we would send you a place quite as awful as your sister makes it sound?"

Gideon thinks about this a moment, scratching fingers through his black hair before shaking his head. "No," he finally says at length, "but I'm still scared. What if no one likes me?"

Lily breathes a laugh but it's not unkind. "Do you know how much family you'll have there, darling? Even Harry's still there for one more year, you'll be sick of everyone that wants to spend time with you soon enough."

Still, speaking of Harry...

She takes Gideon's hand and leads him from the sitting room out into the corridor, stepping over the quite old cat flopped in the doorway. She's not sure where her oldest son is (nor his fathers, which is more worrying) so she calls from the foot of the stairs. "Harry?" It's not sharp or demanding, just requesting. "Harry, where have you got to? We need your help with a little something."

Things are going so well, this time around. There's no war to fight. There's nothing to fear. All there is is to love and take care of one another like they'd all wanted to the first time around.

Sirius hadn't entirely escaped unscathed from his parents this time around, but it was better this time. Had made him so much less frightened to be who he was. So much easier to feel free to love who he wanted to. It had only gotten better when they'd finally remembered everything and he'd realized how well it had worked last time.

He wants that again. He and James both do. So of course when he sees Lily for the first time after he and James have talked it through, he's going to be jogging his way across the quad to catch up to her.

"Hey! Lils!" He's smiling brightly as he approaches, "Got a minute?"
