Wedding & Bedding The proper rituals have been followed, and all the planning for your wedding has been done...whether you planned it or it was all arranged for you, right down to who you'd marry. Still, regardless of the circumstances of your nuptials, there are usually certain expectations and traditions to be held on the night of your wedding: namely, the consummation of your wedding. Is sharing a bed on the first night merely a suggestion, or for you two is it requirement? HOW TO PLAY Character, info, prefs, etc. This can be a shipping, smut, or character development meme. Just mention what you will play, whether you want to play smut or fade to black, or even if you want nothing romantic at all. Reply to others and thread. KIND OF MARRIAGE Arranged → Everyone knows what's best for you, and you have a duty to fulfill. For Love → Lucky you. WHAT HAPPENS As Planned → Whether you're going through the motions, awkwardly learning together what to do, or finally getting your hands on who you've been pining for, you're getting down to business. Unplanned → Everything that can go wrong does. You just can't or won't do what you know you should. Neither of you want to do the wedding night blueprint, so you decide to play cards instead. Maybe you just cuddle. It's up in the air!

it is a marriage of convenience, of course - variss holds no illusions about that. it is a perfectly sensible move from both the illidari and pentaghast families: demon hunters and dragonslayers, finally connected through their two prodigal prodigies. but to have been chosen by lord illidan himself like this? for nevarra to have chosen the estranged cassandra pentaghast, of all people? the bonds of this marriage are meant as shackles, pure and simple.

no matter. if it is lord illidan's will, then she will follow.

she does not turn to face her new bride. what point would it serve? her eyes have been gone for over a decade now, burnt out by the thing inside her. (at least it has given her new vision, of a sort.) but she has covered them with a fine veil of mooncloth, made and stitched to match the gown she herself wove, and were it not for her "gifts" - the twisting horns, the fangs, the leathery wings at her back - she'd be as beautiful a bride as any kaldorei could hope. it's an almost amusing thought. she scoffs and finally takes a seat on the bed they are intended to share.

she speaks roughly and without warning - her first words in private to her bride. ]

Nothing compels you to stay. The ceremony is over.

The earring wasn't supposed to be a proposal.

It was supposed to be a token of gratitude, and Bodin had said he didn't need that. And so, crossly, Zevran had put it away. Really, the earring was more than just 'gratitude'. More than just 'thank you for granting me mercy when all I wanted was to die at your hands'. Because, how did one simply say 'thank you' for that? No, the earring was representative of all the assassin couldn't bring himself to say, couldn't bring himself to acknowledge how he felt, because he was scared. Death was never something he feared, but love? Loving, and being loved? Those things were terrifying.

Bodin knew, probably. At least Zevran thought he did. As much as they played ignorance on both sides for Zevran's sake, surely the dwarf knew well his lover's many trepidations. Later, the elf had thought Bodin turned the earring down in an attempt to get him to simply admit his feelings. To admit that he could love, be in love, and be loved in return.

Eventually, he did. The earring, however, stayed in his pocket. It wasn't meant to be a proposal. That sort of thing was still far too... much, perhaps.

Almost a decade later, things are different. Zevran Arainai is now the Guildmaster of the Antivan Crows. Rumoured to be faithfully at his side: the Hero of Ferelden, and once Warden-Commander of the Ferelden Grey Wardens. The life of an assassin was rarely an easy one, or long. The new Guildmaster yet lived, rebuffing several attempts on his life with a grin and a warning to anyone stupid enough to try again.

While the assassin made no qualms about the fact the House of Crows was still very much a guild of assassins (and the best assassins Thedas had to offer), things improved for those who chose the life of an assassin - starting with the fact that to be an assassin was a choice. Most who opposed such policies had been killed in the years prior, either by Zevran himself, or any of the many, many assassins who had been equally dissatisfied with the state of things.

It's a pleasant life, Zevran thinks, and he considers himself happy - truly happy. There's just enough danger to keep him from boredom, they want for nothing, and, most importantly, Bodin was at his side. His beloved.

Of course, all good things must come to an end, right? Especially for Zevran, who had never been allowed to be happy for too long.

Well, it wasn't that things were 'at an end', but something had certainly been off, and the elf can't help but assume the worst. He's not precisely sure when it started. At some point, Bodin stopped sleeping well. There were nights when Zevran would wake up as his lover was slipping out of bed, or because he had never come to bed at all. And, whatever it was, whatever the reason, Bodin refused to talk about it. Zevran's first thought was that Bodin no longer loved him, that he was regretting this life they had built together - the life Zevran had dragged Bodin into. His second thought was that the Calling had come two decades too early. It wasn't unheard of, after all. He wasn't sure which was worse.

Bodin had mentioned, at some point, the desire to be officially bonded, despite the fact they were two men, a dwarf and an elf, a common assassin and the hero of a nation. And while Zevran had never entirely gotten used to the idea of an 'official' marriage, something about the situation these last few weeks made him rethink, well, everything.

A few days later, Zevran had given the earring to Bodin - as a proposal.

Leliana had ended up officiating for them. While Bodin was something of a traditional man, there was nothing customary about a noble dwarf being married, for love, to an elf - and another man, at that. Zevran cared nothing for elven wedding traditions, whether city or Dalish, because he'd grown up neither in an alienage, or with a clan. The wedding itself was small and simple; only a few of their companions had been able to come, and Zevran didn't care to plan such things. To see those that had come was a happy thing, but there was a sort of unease underlying the whole thing. Maybe it was just him. Maybe it was just his nervousness about 'officially' committing to a man he'd been committed to for years already.


It's quiet, back in their home in Antiva City. Starlight shimmers into their bedroom window, faintly illuminating what the few candles do not. The newlyweds sit on their bed, Zevran settled close behind Bodin with his arms wrapped around his lover - husband. Late into his thirties now, Zevran's long hair, decorated for their wedding in braids bound in bright threads and small, ornate metal beads, is just beginning to streak with silver at his temples. The corners of his eyes, still bright as ever, are creased with laugh lines.

The elf leans his chin on the other's broad shoulder. This was supposed to be happy, and it is, though there's also a poignant, solemn sort of feeling lingering too. He tries not to bring attention to it. He adjusts to place a light kiss on the shell of Bodin's ear. "Are you tired, mi amore?" he asks in a low voice. "It has been a long day."
