Childhood Sweetheart
![]() THE CHILDHOOD ѕωєєтнєαят MEME Ahhh, young love. Whether it's precious or bittersweet, it's something that stays with you. Remember that time...? Of course you do. Both of you thought you'd last forever. Or maybe you were too young to know what that meant. All that mattered was that you were kids and you were together. But time and circumstance tears even the best of friends and young lovers apart. That person, your childhood crush, your first love, is just a memory. Now, you're being given a second chance. Will it be painful? Will you confess everything and try to win their affection again? You've been reunited, and it's up to you what happens. HOW TO ① Comment with your character. You can state preferences and such in your subject. ② Characters who comment will be their childhood sweetheart/first love. The muns can figure out how that works, but when in doubt, just wing it. It's a meme. Fun is the goal here. ③ KISS AND REUNITE. Or argue and storm off. Or cry. Or laugh. Or sex. Whatever is appropriate. |

Reconnecting with Danny has been great. Better than great. Matt's needed this, something happy and good for once rather than the constant harshness of day to day life. But Matt's had to cancel their plans for the fourth time now, which maybe isn't much but it was already hard to find times to meet up.
He knows Danny is being forced to stay late at the office tonight. Hogarth has him on a tight leash, which is equal parts annoying and amusing. It's not really an ideal situation, but Matt picks up some Thai food from the place they were supposed to go a couple days before, and heads to the Rand building.
Danny must have given him some sort of special clearance, because Matt gets waved in despite the late hour. Even Danny's personal secretary seems to be warming up to him (enough that she expresses concern about the freshly black eye Matt's sporting). She tells him to go on in, which Matt does with a sheepishly apologetic smile.
"Is there room in your schedule for me to beg for forgiveness?"
no subject
Which is why he's still in the building after dark, flipping through a novel of a proposal when he doesn't even understand half the terminology, but he refuses to sign off on it before he reads everything. Danny's failed everyone else in his life, he can at least make an effort to keep his father's company afloat.
It's saying a lot that he doesn't even notice when the door of his office open's, but Matt's voice startles him out of his exhausted concentration, and he peers up with a sheepish smile.
And then a small exhale of relief once he sees him because-- a small part of him though that maybe Matt had been avoiding him after their reunion. That prehaps he hadn't lived up to what his childhood friend had expected and thought it better to cut their ties with casual excuses. Danny wouldn't have blamed him.
"I... no, I think I have an opening."
no subject
"I was hoping to take you up on that Thai food date." Hence the enticing smell of pad thai - Danny's is spicy, Matt remembered that, though he had to put it underneath his own to carry it here. He's sure his eyes are still a bit watery from it anyway. "And ... Offer some help?" He remembers, too, Danny saying something about all the legal speak being confusing. He might as well make himself useful so Danny doesn't think he's a total jerk.

But there's something grateful in his voice, a hint of relief at being offered the support he so sorely needs, chipping away at that too overwhelmed feeling that's been building inside of him ever-since he'd let Hogarth convinced him to step up and take over his father's company again.
His stomach betrays him too, rumbling loudly now that he can smell the spicy-sweet of the pad thai, and he didn't realize until just now that he hadn't eaten anything since the oatmeal for breakfast.
Danny's teeth catch at his lower lip, hiding a smile that Matt couldn't see anyway. "Come sit down?"
no subject
He goes to sit but stops, deciding to pull the chair around the desk to sit more or less beside Danny rather than across from him. When Matt does sit down, their legs brush against each other.
"I hope I got your order right. I sort of guessed, but you eat everything."
no subject
Where did that come from?
It's always funny to him when Thai food comes with chopsticks, since it isn't exactly traditional, but he he appreciates the familiar eating utensils just the same and brakes the the cheap ones that come with the meal so he can wind into the noodles.
"Did you finally get a day off?" he can only imagine that Matt's been busy.
no subject
"I guess it's the perks of being your own boss. You get to force yourself to have a day off."
Matt has to use a fork. He's taught himself chopsticks because, why not, but he really only dares to use them with sushi or things that won't make a total mess. "How can you eat that, anyway? Do you even taste anything after the spice?"
no subject
He hums an amused sound at the 'perks' thing. "See you'd think that, but I can never seem to escape this office."
no subject
Which probably helps.
He laughs at Danny's explanation of flavour, and shakes his head. "I'll take your word for it. I think just smelling it will keep my sinuses cleared for weeks."
no subject
Danny makes sure to keep his take out container pushed to the side so the smell isn't so strong, not that it seemed to have detoured him from sitting close.
no subject
"Anyway, I'm just in a transitional period." Without thinking, Matt reaches over to put his hand on Danny's. "I'll be fine."
no subject
That simple touch leaves Danny's heart flip-flopping, if he can help it or not, and even if he's kind of a touchy person on his own he's still a little unused to casual touch. It leaves him pleasantly warm inside.
"How do you know if they're innocent?"
no subject
Matt's not sure if he's good. He tries to be. He's not sure if he is. But he shrugs with a smile anyway, letting his fingers slip off Danny's hand but not moving too far.
"I guess you can just ... Hear it. When someone's lying. Call it a hunch."
no subject
"Can you tell if I'm lying?" And this time it's teasing. "ask me a question."
no subject
"If I remember, you were a bad liar, even for a kid." But the thinks about something, and then he looks amused. "Did you ever decide that girlfriends aren't dumb?"
no subject
"They're probably not dumb anymore, I just... never got around to one?" Not that he's trying to admit that he's never had a girlfriend before, or rather, dated anyone, because that kind of makes him sound lame, right? So yeah, he's shamefully honest on that one.
no subject
Matt shakes his head, but it's fond and not judging. He reaches up his hand to feel absently over Danny's face, because they've never had boundaries and it seems like Matt can't remember that they're not kids anymore. "Not one? Ever? You're not bad looking. I think."
no subject
"If I am, no one's ever told me." He tips his head enough to press a smile against Matt's palm."
"Not one, but I've been gone and it really didn't seem important."
no subject
"I guess that's fair. I'll forgive you this once." It's said in a mockingly serious tone. "Now you'll have girls lined up around the block for you."
no subject
"It still really doesn't seem important." That's honest too, and maybe he just doesn't have much of a libido? Or maybe he just skipped the 'girl crazy' strange, but the thought of women coming after him because he was some rich eligible bachelor unsettled him.
"Maybe I should have been a monk."
no subject
Matt goes back to his food, careful with the noodles. "What have you been up to besides working?"
no subject
"Rebuilding my life, mostly. Ten years is a long time and I don't really have anyone here anymore." It's just honest, he still sounds upbeat enough, but it's hard not to be when Matt's here and still seems to want to be his friend after all. (Thought all the skipped lunch 'dates' had began to worry him a little)
no subject
It feels like right now he and Danny are all each other has, Matt can't mess this up. He nudges their feet together and smiles. "Even if you smell like spicy food."
no subject
"Oh? always?" Okay so he likes spicy food...
