Childhood Meme

THE CHILDHOOD MEME
Childhood. That magical time between infancy and adulthood where you feel invincible. Where you haven't a care or responsibility in the world. It's a time where imagination runs wild and every day is a new adventure waiting to be had.
While there's plenty of fun out there in the world of adults, there's nothing that quite compares to the innocence of those early years. So, grab your juice box, your favorite toy and remember to be back before the streetlights come on.
HOW TO PLAY:
○ This meme is targeted toward the younger end of the age spectrum (15 and under), but that doesn't mean older characters aren't welcome. Does your character have a soft spot for children? Are they typically the type to be the babysitter? Or maybe they're the older sibling being dragged along to keep an eye on the younger one? Aging down is also an acceptable option, haven't we all wondered what our characters would have been like as kids?
○ Comment with your character, canon, preferences, and any other info you'd like to include.
○ Reply to others.
○ Thread and have fun!
1. PLAYGROUND/PARK : The spot where all the best childhood memories are made. Are you playing a game of tag? Are you hanging upside down on the jungle gym? Are you getting into trouble while your mom is catching up on the latest gossip?
2. SCHOOL : The place where 75% of your day is spent and lifelong friendships are forged. Maybe you're in art class, maybe you're at recess, or maybe you're on a school field trip. The possibilities are endless. Just don't be that kid eating paste.
3. MALL : For the kids on the older end of the spectrum. Whether you're at the arcade, whether you're meeting with friends, or whether your parents gave you twenty bucks to get out of their hair, you've got the entire shopping mall at your disposal.
4. CIRCUS : It's the greatest show on earth! Lion tamers! Acrobats! Elephants! Feats meant to stun and amaze you! Cotton candy the size of your head! Are you watching the show from the stands? Or is your family a part of the show?
5. THEME PARK/AMUSEMENT PARK : It's a classic vacation that's fun for the whole family. Are you the roller coaster type? Or are you the type to shy away from the thrill rides and stick to the carousel instead? Keep a hold of someone's hand, though, the only thing that can ruin a day is a lost child in the park.
6. FAIR/FESTIVAL/CARNIVAL : The theme park on a smaller scale. Sometimes the rides are a little shaky, but there's plenty of good deep fried foods and games to be played. Go out and win yourself a goldfish!
7. NEVERLAND : Yes, you read that right. Just like in Peter Pan, it's the magical place where no one has to ever grow up and adults aren't welcome. What kind of adventures will you get into? Remember, it only takes a little bit of fairy dust and good thoughts to fly.
8. WILDCARD : None of these work for you? Go ahead and created your own!

Then he nods, quieter and a little solemn. "Once we're out of school can we live together again? So we don't have to wait to see each other?"

The question, serious though it is, absolutely gets him brightening. He hadn't been sure if that was something Regulus would want-- Remus and his family were Good People, after all. Maybe he'd've wanted to stick with them forever and not look back-- even at Sirius.
Well. It still might happen. Still, this is a happy moment, "Yeah. Yeah 'f you'd like that. That'd be great."
no subject
Still, he's so happy when Sirius brightens that he just drags him to sit in a compartment instead of just standing there oddly - he has a lot he wants to talk about, and a majority of it involves this. "I miss you all the time. I guess a lot of siblings part ways when they grow up but I don't see why. Being apart from you at all hurts a lot. I really want to! It'd be the best home ever."
Ever.
There's no small amount of hero-worship in Regulus even now, the way he's smiling at Sirius so happily.

It's nice to be dragged into a compartment after his brother. He's absolutely going to get them both down to flop on one another. It doesn't even matter if it hurts a little to lean on Regulus; he's just glad he can.
So he's absolutely still smiling, at the words, "Awesome. Yeah, we can-- find a place. It'd be brilliant. I'd love being around you all th'time again. 've really missed you."
no subject
"I want to be together always. Nobody to keep us apart ever again." He feels tired too now though, from being overwhelmed. He nuzzles into Sirius' shoulder a little, eyes lidding almost shut. "It really would be nice if you could come live with us, though. They're never, ever mean at all. Even when I'm bad."
(He still sounds wondering as he says it, two years later.)
no subject
"Me, too, Reggie," he affirms, pressing a fond kiss into his hair, "'nd that's really awesome. No one should ever be mean t'you, anyways. Bet you're like, never bad."
no subject
"It's wonderful," he confirms, "but I am bad, sometimes. All kids are, but their parents aren't supposed to be mean to them." This last part is softer, and his grip on Sirius' sleeve tightens. "They're supposed to teach their kids, not hurt them."
Because he knows, of course he knows, that Walburga and Orion haven't changed at all - or at least, haven't changed for the better.
no subject
"'s different ways of teaching your kids, though," he says after a moment, "But like I said before, Mother and Father are-- different, now, and besides, 've been-- good. Y'don't need to worry about me, Reggie."
Even though he doubts that will help.
no subject
"No. There are different ways, but that way is bad. They're bad, not us." (There's still a part of him that's frightened to say it out loud, and he takes in a shaking breath.)
"Different how? You still won't tell me. I'm going to worry about you anyway. I know you worry about me too."
no subject
"You're not bad," he argues back, "'nd 'm-- much better, now."
Or at least, he tries so hard to be good. That's why it's confusing, that he still gets hurt as much as he does. Why Remus and James' gentle prodding and Regulus' words now have been making him reconsider.
But there's no need to worry Regulus about that.
"I worry about you b'cause you're my little brother, Reggie. 's what big brothers are supposed to do. You're not supposed to worry about me. 'm okay."
no subject
He's adamant about it, eyes wide. Because he knows, now. He doesn't flinch away from every touch. He knows that it's okay to not be afraid of the people that are supposed to take care of you.
His brow furrows, moving to clutch at Sirius' hands. "You're still not answering my question. Hope says I'm smart enough to be a Ravenclaw, you can't fool me."
no subject
Between James turning him into an actually good person and the ways he's changed since Regulus left, it is the truth. He can't help but squeeze his brother's hands, tugging one up to press a firm kiss against it as he steadies himself. He's never tried lying entirely to Reg before, but he's gotten better at it overall to his parents since they made Regulus leave. He's had to.
"They're better now," he finally says, glancing up at his brother with the best smile he can manage, "'s-- kinda weird. They're not as great as the Lupins seem t'be, but. It's not like before. It's like they-- realized it's just me, now, and they can't be as awful anymore or they'll-- lose me, too."
