It's that time of year again - Halloween! And what better time to pull out the tropic 'you are now your costume' meme? Because that's what's happening, boys and girls. At the stroke of midnight on All Hallows Eve, everyone gets turned into their costume. Sure, that doesn't sound so bad, does it? If you're a dragon or a princess, maybe. But what if you're that genius that went as a partner costume? Or what if you went as a walking dildo? Might want to rethink that costume choice before the clock strikes twelve, because until the sun rises over the horizon, you are now your costume.

[Mettaton's not sure whether to be insulted or not when he bumps into Sans. On the one hand, he at least... tried with his costume? And the shades are a nice touch. On the other hand... the material is all wrong. It needs to be more flowy.

When the two are finally within speaking distance of each other, the robot just sighs, hands planted on his hips.]

... Why the shutter shades?

[By the time they talk, the writing on the sheet was already smudged and faded. That's what you get for putting a costume together 20 minutes before a party. Shoulders shrug underneath the sheet.]

Why not? Ghosts are pretty cool.

[Hey, Sans met Napstablook. If eating ghost sandwiches and feeling like garbage after a great meal isn't cool, he doesn't know what is.

Pinprick eyes through the holes in the sheets wander down to the material. He shrugs again.]

I could have used the curtains, I guess. But Papyrus would've killed me.

[He glances up again and looks Mettaton up and down.]

[Unlike some skeletons, Papyrus put a little more effort into his costume. He's got a dog mask, white long-sleeved shirt and pants, with mittens and shoes with black markings to look like claws on paws. And a tail. It's... passable.]

[Talk about your late night parties. Who let a dog? I mean, literally. There's a dog.

And despite being the monster version of a ghost, Sans is more or less recognizable with the usual, stupid grin on his ethereal face. He floats slowly up to the new dog in town party.]

Hey, little fella. Looks like this party's gone to the dogs.

[Somebody plays a rimshot.]

I'd call it spirited myself.

[There's another one???]

Anyway, have you seen my brother around?

[Papyrus came here to have a good time and he's feeling so attacked right now.

Seriously, though, he's still discombobulated by just what's happened. At the strike of midnight, there was a wooshing or perhaps woofing sound. Visions of bones and pawprints danced in his head. And when his mental disorientation faded, he was standing on all fours, and despite his best efforts he just couldn't stand on his proper two legs again.

He looks up at that voice, up and up and that's so strange to need to do, and stumbles backwards at the sight of his brother the ghost.

Does Sans speak dog? Because that's all that's coming out of dog!Papyrus' mouth; alarmed barks and whines.]

[??????? um. Sans kneels. Tries to kneel. It's more like his ghost body is folding over.]

Whoah, whoah, whoah, hey. Where's the fire, pal? Is it the ghost thing?

[He didn't think dogs could be scared of ghosts (come to think of it, has he ever seen a dog and a ghost in the same room together?), but maybe that's the issue here.]

Trust me, I know a lot of ghosts, and most of 'em wouldn't hurt a fly, much less a dog. [(Not counting the times Mad Dummy and Mettaton tried to beat up a child)] And believe it or not, I don't normally look like this. I'm usually a lot more skeleton-shaped. I was dressed up as a ghost and... well. I dunno what happened.

[He shrugs.]

[Papyrus quiets as his brother starts talking all concerned-sounding, all reassuring of the unfamiliar dog, as if Sans has no idea who this is.

He stares up (at his ghost brother? they both turned into their costumes?? how????), a long quiet whine of frustration because he doesn't know how to talk like this. Even texting is out of the question, his phone disappeared with the rest of him!

But when Sans says his name, most of the fear just washes away for a minute. He barks, much more certain and affirmative, ears perked up as he nods. Very emphatically, just in case it's not clear. So hard he almost falls over, and has to scrabble to stay upright.

Just look at that tail go, it's like he's a helicopter getting ready for take off.]

[The party is well into full swing, people getting silly with the sleepiness of staying up late... But it's a costume party, and all sorts of things go.

Great as his battlebody is, it's transcended its original purpose as a costume, and it didn't come with him tonight. No, tonight Papyrus decided on a playful mockery of his longtime foe: that dog. A couple people already asked where his clothes were, so that's a little awkward; apparently they figured he was dressed as a nudist Doggo? Hopefully no one shares that theory with the ex-guard...

He's adjusting his mask in front of a mirror at the end of a hallway, trying to make sure nothing's awry, when he hears footsteps approaching.]

[Those a very distinct footsteps, an all too familiar click of highheeled boots, that begin getting close and closer to Papyrus's location.

Unlike real vampires though, Mettaton's reflection is very visible. Upon seeing someone else already using the mirror, the robot draws closer, about to make some snide remark about having to wait to fix himself but stops when he realizes who's in the costume. His expression immediately lightens up and he clasps his hands together.]
