An enemy? The cops? Batman? Are we ever going to stop asking questions? • Top level your character. Include any details you might think are relevant. Or don't. Never before had the fortress of Helm's Deep been breached. Éomer has not been alive as long as some, but he has been alive enough to know that fact the same way he knows that the sky is blue, or that the sun rises in the East, that a pretty girl's smile is enough to make his breath catch when he's least expecting it.

Splashed with blood and covered in stone dust from the explosion and mud from the torrential rain, Éomer staggers further into the keep, his breath catching for a different reason. Dawn had come, the sun rising as it always does in the East, but this time, the dawn brought with it the wizard Gandalf and Erkenbrand, riding in with a thousand riders following the call of his black horn. What had seemed to be an unwinnable battle had quickly become a rout, and all around him rose cheers of victory from men heartened by seeing the red shield of the lord of the Westfold. Still, as relieved as he might be, he cannot catch a proper breath, cannot find the same blissful peace he sees on the faces he passes by, until he knows that his sister and his—well, whatever Katniss means to him— are safe.

"Éowyn!" he cries, pushing through the crowd milling around the doors that lead deeper into the mountain. "Katniss!" He curses, tempted to use the ruin that is his shattered shield as a battering ram of sorts so he can force his way deeper into the caverns in search of his womenfolk. "Let me through, damn you. Katniss!"
