He could brag about those things. He was equal parts proud of Earth's history and ashamed of it. Her glories were great and shining, but her skeletons were just as rotten and scarred. He would never claim her or even the human race to be perfection, but their flaws made them beautiful together, and learning from their mistakes was, he thought, one of humanity's best qualities.
"Most do that, but I don't," he shook his head. "It's the sight I love most when I come home. Just looking at her, sitting there - a single blue gem among the stars that against all odds somehow managed to house life." His smile was wistful, almost dreamy. "She has many good qualities, but that color - you'll never see anything else like it."
But he was naturally bias. Even so, he thought it worth saying, and made a note to bring Hux to the command deck as they approached. Let him see his beautiful world as he saw it.
"But I'm sure you're more interested in things like the politics, am I right?"
"You seem to have a really deep attachment to your home planet despite spending most of your time on your ship," he remarked. He felt no strong feelings about his home planet, he only remembered bits and pieces. Rain, sea monsters, and more rain. Not exactly a beautiful planet like Kirk described Earth to be.
He wasn't sure if he could understand such an attachment to a certain place considering he had grown up on star destroyers.
"Yes, I want to get to know your government better. How it operates, what I can expect. I'm sure they will want to question me as well for some time," he said thoughtfully. "Technology as well, but I'm sure I won't be allowed full access soon, if at all."
"I was born there, and it's the birth place of my ship, so to speak," he leaned back in his seat, crossing his legs and looking utterly relaxed even across from a man who was, for all intents and purposes, a mass murderer. "I left it to seek out the universe, and that is what I love. But it's important to remember your roots."
He rested his hands atop his knee, licking his lips and tasting salt from the fries.
"Well, you'll be given over to Star Fleet, not necessarily an Earth government. If you are, it will be the United Nations - which is a governing body formed of reps from all the sovereign nations on Earth. You should expect to be kept in a secure facility, but you should have access to a limited network - that will no doubt be highly monitored. When you would be released, I can't say. That's not up to me. It will depend on how cooperative you are, I imagine."
"I can't say I have the same attachment to my home planet, I haven't been there since I was a child. Not that there is much to come back to," he remarked with dry amusement.
"I expect nothing less. I would do the same." Well, perhaps not exactly the same since he liked using interrogation droids when the mood struck him. But these people didn't seem the type to employ torture to get what they wanted. But he was willing to be cooperative to a point depending on what they were able to offer him. No one had to know the entire truth, anyway. No one knew about the Republic, nor would they understand what he had to do.
You would be surprised, Hux. Torture might be an option. Kirk hoped it wasn't, liked to believe it was not, but Star Fleet held some darker shadows even he did not know of. Maybe, just maybe, someone would have less qualms, and Kirk wouldn't be able to protect Hux from that.
Kirk leaned over and checked something on a console display. "About another twelve hours. We'll drop out of hyper in eight and coast in for four," he explained, looking back to him. "Not a lot of time to read up, so I'll keep answering what I can for you. Oh - have you been handling the gravity on this ship all right?"
Hux watched Kirk check the console display. Not that he understood what the coordinates were, he had no frame of reference to know where they were. It annoyed him to be so lost, he had no control over the situation.
"Yes, why? It doesn't seem to be much different than the gravity on our own ships," Hux asked, raising his eyebrows. "The ship is considerably smaller, however."

"How long until we arrive then?"
