THE MONSTER HUNTER AU MEME

THE MONSTER HUNTER AU MEME
HOW TO PLAY
1) Post a blank comment with your character, or post with your preferences
2) Reply to others by rolling the RNG between 1-10 to pick a prompt, or just grab one that tickles your fancy.
3) Decide who is the hunter, hunted, or monster victim, or any combination of the three.
4) Play!
PROMPTS
1) GHOST HUNTERRRZ You are now a ghost hunter on some crappy reality TV show. Are you just making shit up as you go along? Do you think you’re really onto something when it’s just rats? Is something actually going on and your amateur crew is way out of their league?
2) PORTLANDIA The dream of the 90s may be alive in Portland, but that’s not all that’s still moving around. Now you’re a Grimm, and it’s your job to either kill or befriend the wesen (monster people) in your city. Are you a law abiding cop? A rogue killer? Maybe just the middle school math teacher who really has no time for this bullshit?
3) CHARTREUSE POINT You’re a monster hunter in some sort of unspecified Victorian or Edwardian year. Needless to say, you job description involves a lot of fainting couches, waifs, and elegant neck stretching. Embrace the gothic horror clichés, man.
4) CAN I GO HOME NOW? For whatever reason, you find yourself in a position where you just really don’t want to be up against this monster nonsense. Maybe you got cornered and now you’re forced to kill them all before you can go. Maybe someone pushed you into this when all you really want to do is be a dentist. Maybe it’s 2 AM and some poltergeist is disturbing your sleep.
5) MR. POINTY Congratulations, either you are now the Slayer, or one of her many monster hunting buddies. I trust you know how this one works, guys.
6) BROODING HUNX Wow, unlucky you. You’re now a hunter in the Supernatural universe. Or hey, maybe you’re just an unlucky civilian who has to suddenly be saved by a barely functional alcoholic with an arsenal. Maybe you’re even a hunter with a stable job and life, and you hunt on the weekends. Whatever you are, stay away from those Winchester psychos.
7) SHADETRAPPERS So now you're some kind of sexy twentysomething with special powers, and you hunt down demons! At least, I think its demons. Definitely totally different from Buffy!!!
8) SHE TURNED ME INTO A NEWT Congrats, asshole, you’re a witch hunter. No specific time period, but just know that you get your kicks trying otherwise law abiding women for witchcraft. Or maybe you’re a misunderstood person truly trying to rid the world of wicked witchery, and your victims are the real deal.
9) ....IN SPAAAACE You‘re a space monster hunter (alien? human in the future?) and you hunt space monsters. Not much else to it.
10) THE HUNTED BECOMES THE HUNTER Clearly you’ve got a lot of internal hate going on here, because now you’re a monster who finds them self hunting other monsters. What happened to you, man? Did you get turned against your will and hunt for revenge? Does your species do this for funsies? Are the members of your race corrupted and must be stopped?
11) WILD Go nuts

4. GHOSTS. IT'S GHOSTS.
He never expected to meet a ghost face-to-face, though. They're camped out under the stars, halfway between one shithole and a slightly nicer one, and sleep isn't coming easy. The figure- a woman, homesteader but in dress about 40 years out of date- appears in front of the dying campfire slowly, and solidifies enough that Goody can't ignore it after a point. At first he thinks it's another nightmare, but he can't shake himself out of the dream like he normally can. "No," he whispers weakly, "no, please. Not now."
He at least has the presence of mind to poke Billy awake, passed out like a rock under the tree a few feet away. Goody's too scared by what he thinks is his own mind to move far, so he settles on jabbing him with one boot until he stirs. He's got to know if this is real or not. Billy always settles these things. "Billy. Billy, wake up."
AAAAH! Call the GhoooooooooostFacers
9. sort of...this got away from me.
The second time they took him, he remembers only vaguely better. He had been 15. He had been driving down a country road in his new truck, coming home from a high school football game. Ahead, there had been a familiar blinding light. The next thing he clearly recalls is being on the side of the road; the clock says 3 am. He's been gone for four hours. There are 42 new messages on his cellphone and a strange scratch on his right arm and a intense throbbing sensation in his head. This time, when the nightmares come, it is far more clear than the terrors of his childhood. He sees the terrifying gray things with long spindly fingers and their sharp tools. He dreams of looking beside him, past those strange instruments to the other table. To where the other boy is. Always the same boy. Older now. He can almost remember a face when he wakes up, but all that remains is that dark hair and those almond eyes.
The next time they come, they are not alone. The next time he sees them, they come at the head of an armada. He's in his twenties and laying on his stomach in the sand in Fallujah surrounded by his fellow marines. They come and they stay. They stay and the slaughter begins.
The Earth fought back hard as it could. Ancient enemies banding together to fight this overwhelming force. They fought together and died together. He remembers the sounds of the death rays and the cries as hundreds of people are reduced to ashes in seconds. The battle rages for weeks. The humans stand for far longer than they should have. He is there for much of it, always where the fighting was thickest. Always managing to take down at least some of the walkers, some of the creatures with well placed sniper shots. He earns a name for himself. He doesn't want it. Not when there are far far too many losses and far too few wins.
In the end, humanity surrenders to their new alien overlords. The people are enslaved, taken and worked to death stripping the Earth of what's left of it's resources. Those who escaped fled into the empty places, the uninhabitable wastelands left by the wars. Goodnight went with them. Wondering the Saudi desert towards Asia and unwittingly gathering up a resistance force as he went. The freedom fighters, the escapees, they all grouped together to fight. They did it because they had Goodnight Robicheaux, the Angel of Death, at on their side. He somehow became the face of the resistance. And like his name implied, more often than not, they all died.
Hundreds join as he works his way across Asia Minor. Hundreds die. It is like they know where the resistance will be. Like they are tracking him. Day in and day out, for more years than he wants to count, they come and they die just as quickly. When they win, it's just small victories, flashes in the pan, and the losses take more out of him each year.
By the time he reaches Korea, he's at his breaking point. He's tired. Physically. Mentally. It's too much. He can't do this anymore. He can't fight any more. He can barely sleep at night, always jumpy and looking over his shoulder during the day. He's tired of running. Tired of hiding. Tired of life. Tired of watching people die while he somehow keeps going. Tired of how they always seem to find him. Always seem to know just where he'll be.
He leaves the group. Disappears into Korea. But even there, where he goes, his legend follows. Everywhere he stays for more than a day, that place gets wiped from the maps days later, proof that the "angel of death" passed through. So he doesn't stay. He keeps picking up and moving. To a new area, a new place, and he prays that they wouldn't find him there. Those goddamn huge gray things with the massive owl like eyes.
It is in his attempt to disappear that he finally meets the boy in his nightmares, now a man. He is in a small ragtag settlement in the middle of the Korean jungle. He cringes at every sound and can barely look at the small fire. He hears steps coming from behind him and he starts to pull his hood up to hide himself as he glances behind him. The hood never makes it over his head. Goodnight sits and stares. Memories, horrors of childhood nightmares coming flooding back in. He knows that face. He scrambles backwards, away from the man.
"It was you..." It seems to be all he can say, the words whispered over and over again, like saying it enough times would make him actually believe it.
This is fucking epic.

Figured it would be haunted. Again.
It had taken her about two days to put two and two together. Denise had encountered ghosts before. But she'd also encountered rats. And she always had a tendency to assume rats. There was no learning curve. But, eventually, after one too many customers fell down for no goddam logical reason, she figured it out.
Of course, she'd put in a call to the Order, but it would be at least a week before they could get someone out to her. So, finally, reluctantly, she shut down, sent all her customers away, and grabbed a rifle from under the bar.
If you wanted something done right...

Okay, so this place.
[He pans the handheld camera towards a run-down, abandoned fishing port, complete with some rusty, half-sunk boats still left by the dock.]
Used to be pretty bustling, sure. But one day, someone came upon some twisted old metal remains in the water not far out, like something was built there once. People say it could be over ten thousand years old! And since then? This place has been cursed, or maybe haunted by the spirits of the ancient civilization that once ruled the land before us. Boats sinking for no reason, nets rotting in days, eerie sounds at night, you name it.
So of course, we're gonna go take a little look for ourselves! Whaddaya say Thida, ready for a history lesson?
[Yes, he's grinning like a giant jerk as he points the camera back at her.]
