Stolen Moments

the stolen moments meme.
Time spent with the person you care the most for is a precious, invaluable thing. Most people take it for granted, though, as they can be with their beloved as much as they'd like. But not you. You and the one you love are kept apart - be it by the people you know, the merit of what you are causing your relationship to be taboo, your true destiny and calling, or even something as relatively mundane as your job.
Today, though, you get a rare private moment with them. This is the first time in quite a while, and may be the last time in months, if not years. What do you do? Comfort each other? Hold each other tight? Have sex? Argue? The specifics are up to you; mix and match your canons, tag someone new to see how this stolen moment plays out.

Han had observed that the other human aboard the Falcon had been having trouble sleeping for the last couple of nights. You can't help noticing these kinds of things. Even when you're not the most observant person because this three-sentient crew practically lived on top of each other. Hard to keep anything private in that instance.
So the next time they stopped on planet, he took it upon himself to go hunting for a special provision to have on board. Han walked through the Gatalentan marketplace, interacting with the kind of beings he never would associate with otherwise - new age types and herbalists - all in the hope of trying to find warm tea that might help Rey fall asleep.
It was a straightforward task, or so he thought. Turns out that Gatalentan Tea isn't just one kind of tea, but a name for many kinds of blends that come from the world and it took a tremendous amount of patience for Han to sift through the abundance of information he was getting about the subtle distinction between the leaves of different trees. His head was throbbing after about twenty minutes of trying to shop.
Eventually, however, he scored his tea and stashed it in a high cabinet in the galley. He didn't dare breathe a word about the gesture and he didn't exactly tell the truth about where he'd been for the last hour because he didn't want to ruin the surprise.
He simply waited until the next time he noticed that she couldn't sleep and excused himself out of the cabin, returning with a warm mug full of noncaff tea for her. It's funny because for all the charm he has some of the simplest things aspects of being a thoughtful companion still elude him. He seems almost confused on how to present this thing he's offering her.
"I uh ..."
He stops and starts again.
"You haven't been sleeping very good and I got this for you. Some of the people I was talking to you said this is the good stuff. Is got no stims in it and it's mild."

It's nothing. Well, not the sort of thing that Han needs to worry about. A little insomnia from time to time isn't going to kill Rey - she's been through far worse and come out the other side just fine, she's got no reason to believe anything different will come out of this.
Although ... it was hard enough dealing with almost constant nausea, and the addition of the need to pee, like, all the time, and now she's got the mental haze that comes from only finding a few blessed hours of rest at any given time, and it's ...
Exhausting.
It must be exhausting for Han and Chewie, too, having to deal with the disruption of their normal schedules to accommodate her retching, and bathroom breaks, and the abrupt mood swings she'd been sure to warn them both about. It must be doubly difficult for Han to deal with the way that she couldn't ever seem to get comfortable in the small bunk they share, the tossing and turning, and the inadvertent knees and elbows that come along with it.
Everything's probably made all the worse when she starts seeing herself as more a burden than anything else. At the very least, she was feeling up to the task of heading out with Chewie to procure much needed supplies while Han 'met with his contact' alone. Which ... was strange, in and of itself. He always took backup, whether it was Chewie, or Rey, or both. Obviously, her worry wasn't well-founded - he'd made it back to the Falcon before they had, and all in one piece.
The next few nights passed uneventfully, but on the third, familiar patterns began to take shape. The tossing and turning and trying to be still, the quiet, frustrated sighs ... the only difference is that this time, he takes his leave, and Rey worries that perhaps she's become an annoyance, but then he returns, mug in hand, nd it takes her an embarrassingly prolonged bit of time to figure out what he's done, what he means, what he's brought for her.
She sits up with a sigh, her expression still clearly confounded, although there's no helping the tiny smile that turns her lips up at the edges. "You got me tea? To help me sleep?"
Honestly? She's touched, more than she can say.

He supplies with a shrug. Whether it will or not is anybody's guess, but the fact is he recognized there was a problem and Han is trying to be helpful. His tendency to be sort of focused on himself has been shifting gradually. Captain Solo has always been the type that looked out for people who got really close to him - you need look no further than the bond he has with Chewie for that - but it was always with the caveat that number one has to be taken care of first.
Someday, likely while he doesn't notice it, there might be a new number one. Wouldn't that be something?
He waits for her to ease herself up a little before he carefully passes over the mug.

"We'll see", Rey answers, smiling gently. It doesn't do much to offset the dark bags underneath her eyes, but it should hint that despite her discomfort, she really is okay. Or will be, if and when she ever gets a full night's worth of sleep again. "Thank you."
They're both changing, and hopefully for the better, now that they've got a child to think about, first and foremost. It's still hard to wrap her head around even though her slightly rounded stomach is beginning to offer a very real reminder of what's to come. Rey yawns tiredly as she sits up, murmuring her thanks again once the warm mug is in her hands, waiting for Han to sit, too.
"I'm sorry for this - for keeping you awake, too."

"I can rub your feet, if you want?"
He's trying to be considerate - though sometimes he feels like he's walking on egg shells. Sometimes he's noticed that Rey doesn't want him to treat her any different than he used to and other times she seems more receptive to him trying to dote on her. It's easier to ask a lot of times than it is just to assume that his good intentions will smooth everything over.

And she's the cause of it.
Rey hates that she's the cause of it.
Even if she seems annoyed, it's not really ever because of Han - not any more than usual, anyway. It's just difficult to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much she wants things to stay the same, she's never really going to be able to go back to the way they were before. For better or worse, this was the path they were heading down. But honestly? It's these little moments that settle her worry the quickest - things like being doted on in even the smallest ways.
Her smile shifts and widens, and she shrugs just slightly. "Actually, my feet feel fine tonight. It's my back that's hurting."

As he says that, he's already trying to climb behind her without jostling her too much. He wants to ease the utter pain in the ass that he assumes being pregnant must be when he can.
There's a part of him that feels like he's not meeting a certain standard that a man should when they're in his situation. He should have her in a bigger place to live and on a planet - so that they're not in danger of being jostled around while she's already nauseous. That, in general, he doesn't provide her enough comfort for this. It was fine when they were two smuggler-pilots, but now? Now, he just feels like kind of failure over it.
"Have you ever thought about what planet you want the kid to be born on? We could make the youngest Solo a citizen of ... anywhere, really."
no subject
He might jostle her a bit, but it's nothing that she can't ignore. Been through worse, and it's for a good reason, so she's hardly got any real cause for complaint.
Some days are better than others, but even on her worst, she doesn't really regret getting pregnant. Maybe the timing, but not the baby itself. Circumstances were rarely ever going to be perfect, no matter the situation. As such, she never really felt the way that Han felt - that he was somehow lacking when it came to taking care of her, and their kid. This is still far better than anything she would have had back on Jakku, and she is still ridiculously grateful to be here rather than there.
"Mm ... not a lot, honestly. Have you? I mean, do you want them a Corellian citizen, or shall we just find a different planet entirely?"

Han begins to massage her back, beginning with light fingertip heavy touches through her clothing all over the length of her back. Just to get her body used to the weight of his hands. If she's wearing clothing that's loose enough - like one of his old ones, he'll slip his hands underneath the fabric after a moment or two.
"Everything I found out about my family? They're all 100% Corellian and most of them born on planet, but ..." He stops, struggling to put his thoughts into words. "I don't see the need to preserve family tradition or anything with people I never knew."
