They don't spend so much time in towns and among travelers, after all. There are stops here and there, small exchanges she watches with people who respond incredibly well to intimidation. The sort of people who actively seek to exchange with Artemis Entreri aren't exactly people looking for sparkling conversation. Professionalism in action? Yes. Tactical mastery? Of course. Someone to talk to without babbling in a small amount of fear? Not so much.

So it takes a while to notice.

Honestly, Rigon almost thinks she's imagining it at first. He's fine with her, after all; gruff, sharp, usually a little frustrated, but fine. It's not the sort of thing a person notices when out on the road with solitude. It's not something to pick up on while taking a room for a night. It's ages before she notices the way brows tend to wrinkle when he talks too long and little starts tend to come over people's shoulders. It's not until Artemis leaves the envoy of a council member near the outskirts of Crimmor completely slackjawed for a few heartbeats that it really strikes her.

There are things Artemis Entreri is not good at. Mostly, apparently, it's pleasant interaction with other people.

It has her brow deeply furrowed even when they're alone again. It has her lower lip sucked between her teeth and her silence less awed as she contemplates what to do with this new information.]

[To his credit, the meeting could have gone considerably worse than it actually did in the end. No blood had been spilled, and no threats had been made - at least, not overtly.]

[Frankly, as far as Artemis is concerned, he handled the entire thing damn well. He makes it no secret how he dislikes dealing with nobility and authority both, and more than that, the middlemen they like to send in their stead. He never had to, when he still worked for House Basadoni. Since striking out on his own, however...]

[He's gotten better at it, over the years.]

[So he likes to think.]

[He waits until the envoy is long gone before he can let himself relax, any lingering discomfort and annoyance brought on by the meeting quickly fading as he thought about the mission requested of them. And after several quiet moments he looks to Rigon, though instead of discussing their options he takes a quick note of her expression and studies her, brow raising.]

I know. I don't like dealing with their type either.

[Because obviously that has to be why she looks so discontent.]

[It's not not part of it, of course. No one likes a bureaucrat. Even vassals don't like vassals. It's just the way of the world.

It's just that there's so much more world-shattering happening here.]

[She's been getting a little better at controlling her voice, her expressive features; the general air about her, which is carefully moving from 'scared little deer' to 'overbold little deer that can at least not fall over all the time' (which is an improvement and she's counting it as a win). She still can't stop herself from sounding just a bit shocked and incredulous as she continues to stare at him.]

It probably shouldn't be shocking, but it is. It's like noticing the one tiny fleck in an otherwise flawless stone. Suddenly, that's all you can see. Also suddenly, taking everything that stone has taught you as the gospel truth seems like it might have been a terrible idea because apparently the stone makes mistakes.

The stone is Artemis.

Coming back to Atlantis after a vacation in a way felt more like he was coming home than his own house. He'd taken Teyla and Ronon with him this time, after clearing it to show them American society first hand and they'd brought back their own share of Earth souvenirs.

But his first stop after dropping his bag off and delivering a few gifts off is heading for the room down the hall from his own, knocking lightly on the door.

"Any luck fixing that wristband of yours?"

There was something to be said about the thrill of adventure, of getting away from home,, seeing exotic locales and meeting new people. Those were the sorts of things that Jack lived for. Usually, though, his adventures tended to be more of his own volition than at the whims of the rift or happenstance. Still, in this strange new place, he had to make do until he could get home again.

"Not even a little," Jack said with a sigh. He nodded his guest into the room and continued staring down at the leather strap sat on the desk in front of him. Most of it was in pieces, and he was very familiar with how it worked, but getting the parts he needed would be next to impossible, as well as figuring out exactly what the Doctor had done to fry it so badly. "Might be a lost cause."
