Marriage for love is a such a modern concept. In the past, marriage was
recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!

POSSIBLE REASONS FOR MARRIAGE:
① Station → You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
② Feud → You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
③ Economics → Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
④ Empire → You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
⑤ Tribute → You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
⑥ Bloodline → Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
⑦ Disapproval → Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS:
① First meeting → This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse.
② Courtship → To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates.
③ Engagement party → Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending).

Derek had been betrothed to this boy since he was 20 years old. Well... it began many years before that but it only was known for sure which Hale child the baby prince would marry. It was arranged when Derek was 7 years old. It was just after his father died and his mother needed to strengthen her claim on her throne. As a child Derek fought this tooth and nail. He didn't want to marry a baby. It was a boy baby so his 7 year old mind didn't understand it at all.

But Queen Talia explained that it would be decided which of her children would marry the boy once the boy presented as something. If he was an alpha or beta, he would marry Laura. If the boy presented as an omega then he would be betrothed to Derek. At the time when his mother explained it, about age 12, Derek didn't think that was too bad. He had a one in three shot of getting married to a man he's never met.

But when the letter arrived from King Stilinski that his son had presented as an omega like his mother, Derek was in mourning for a whole week. Laura, on the other hand, quickly became engaged to her secret boyfriend she'd had for years. Derek envied her and refused to talk to her for weeks.

But today was the day his betrothed would be arriving. He wasn't even sure of this Prince's name. Some said he hated his birth name so much that he went by something completely different. It didn't matter to Derek. This Prince had just celebrated his 17th birthday, meanwhile Derek was going to be turning 24 later this year, and his father was eager for him to be married and make this union of their kingdoms complete.

So there he stood on the steps of his mother's castle, awaiting the arrival of the Prince's caravan, with his mother on his right and his already married sister on his left. When the Prince's carriage finally arrived, Derek took a deep breath and awaited to see what he'd been waiting his whole life for.

i'd love to play with him being sent off to marry to keep the peace between two warring nations, with subsequent courting to maybe win him/favor of his nation over. feud turns economical in a way. but i am open to anything! ]

[For being humans they had proven themselves quite sturdy, Claude were impressed actually for how long they went on fighting before deciding to send advisers to barging for peace. Not that he would mind if things calmed down. Honestly war got dull quickly. Just a lot of death and the constant smell of blood that put him on edge. How many times had he not nicked himself on his own fangs because they were out? Less fighting meant less blood and the less his instincts would try to take over.

The solution to the warring problem however wasn't one he had expected. A union. Sure he could see the logic behind that in a senses. It just seemed a bit odd for it to be decided that a human and vampire would join together. But that was what had been decided.

And he had drew the lot of being the one offered up from their side. Well it kind of had been a fifty-fifty chance of him ending up in that position. Either him or his cousin, since they were youngest of the Sterling family, the oldest of all vampire kind and when it came to vampires the age of ones house mattered greatly.

So here he were, waiting for his future spouse to arrive. The shade of the castle and the old surrounding forest kept the harshest rays of the sun away. He could stand sunlight to some extent, but rather kept to the shadows or straight out slept through the day. Claude guessed he would need to make a compromise when it came to the sleeping schedule from this point on. He couldn't just sleep the day away when Riku as he had learned the human were called would most likely prefer to sleep the night away. But hey if they didn't like each other that could always be a valid option.]

Davy collected on his promises, always, though with humor far more appreciable to most humans than the rest of his kind. Generations ago, he'd made a bargain with Madame de La Fayette and claimed one of her descendants to be his spouse, not in Earthly terms, but his spouse nonetheless. The Devil always came to collect his due, and it just so happened that when the deadline struck, the heir to Marie-Madeleine's bargain was a young warrior, fighting for the English colonies in the New World.
