(Or enemy texting, if that's more your bag.) instructions: What it says on the tin! Leave a comment with your character, include preferences, a start, absolutely nothing or whatever you want. Run around and reply to others. Lather, rinse, repeat.

[ The last message from Kanan she has on her phone is from ten months ago.

For the first few weeks after she left, they chatted like everything was normal -- or so Mari had believed, anyway. If Kanan felt a bit distant at times, well, it's hard to discern tone over text, and she was never one for exclamation marks and smiley faces quite the way Mari was to begin with. She told herself that it was fine. She told herself they would be best friends forever.

But the gaps between Kanan's responses stretched wider, and her words thinned and flattened. She was busy with school, she'd said, and helping out at the diving shop. Mari'd grown busy, too; school in America is far more demanding than in the Japanese countryside, and the pressure to excel far greater. The time difference only complicated things further, even when Mari had it memorized, and would always wake up a little bit earlier and go to sleep a little bit later in the hopes of catching Kanan online.

But it didn't work. In the end, nothing worked. The last message from Kanan she has on her phone is from ten months ago, followed by a dozen messages from her spread over the course of three months, all gone unanswered.

Mari's lying in bed and scrolling idly through her phone on a Saturday morning, one week after the three of them had rejoined Aqours, when it suddenly hits her--

If she messaged her now, she might reply.

It should be fine now, shouldn't it? They've talked things out, they've patched things up -- no secrets anymore, no need for that distance. They can go back to being just the way they used to be! She doesn't need to keep holding back!

Emboldened by the thought, she bolts upright, clutching her phone between both hands. Her enthusiasm falters quickly, however, at the sight of the messaging screen. The string of old texts, marked as seen but never acknowledged; the empty text box staring back at her...

Mari has no idea what to say.

The same insecurity peeking through the growing cracks in her messages pools in the pit of her stomach again. Maybe it's been too long, after all. Maybe it'll just be awkward and weird to try again now. Maybe...

Ugh! No! She whips her head hard, hair tossing against her face, and slaps her cheek with one hand. They're never going to get anywhere with that kind of thinking! It's stupid, and irrational, and-- and she just has to shake these thoughts off and go for it!

Mari clenches her fist, pumping it through the air in determination.
