2/2 IMPROVISES

There, tucked into the band holding Keelan's hair are two gold pins embedded with small jewels. It's nothing but decoration, clearly, but at that moment Fae might as well have been handed a set of keys.

"Keelan!" He covers his mouth - he's smiling - he said the name a bit too loud in his excitement and he tries to smother the sparks of hope he feels before lowering his fingers. "You shithead," he laughs, as if Keelan had been keeping a secret from him, but the man looks confused when Fae reaches to pluck out the pins in his hair. "I told you you're not useless."

After passing the sack to Keelan, Fae crouches in front of the door, sticking one pin in the corner of his mouth while wriggling the other into the lock. "I can open it, but I need a little time." He's glad he's turned away from Keelan because when he starts working the pick, his knuckles scream in protest and he winces sharply, a bead of sweat running down his cheek. It's definitely fractured, but he doesn't have time to think about that right now. He talks to Keelan as he works, but his eyes stay entirely on the task in front of him - narrowed and focused. "You're gonna have to look out for us as best you can - just a few minutes. I promise."
