rain rain go away;

the rain meme
Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.
Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.
Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

intensity
1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.
2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.
3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.
4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!
5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!
prompts
1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.
2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.
3. GRAY RAIN OF DEPRESSION ☂ We all know this one. Stuck in the middle of no where, or right after an argument, or something that leads to angst, the rain decides to express someone’s feelings in a physical form, serious or over the top.
4. QUIET MORNING ☂ Nothing to do, nowhere to be… sometimes the rain is a welcomed addition to a quiet day. Gives you an excuse to stay in, curl up in a warm blanket and a book, maybe a loved one or a cup of hot chocolate. With sprinkles.
5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!
6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.
7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.
8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?
9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!
10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.
11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!
12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.
13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.
14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.
15. WILD CARD ☂ Was there something I missed? Did you want to roll again or choose your own adventure? Go for it!
2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

That's ususally the case most of the time, isn't it? :B
[He shifts a bit to look at the storm as he hovers, his orbs slowly spinning a bit before settling again.]
It will pass when it is time. Patience is a virtue, after all.
[Really, he doesn't care how long it takes to get out of the area. Sometimes it didn't do well to rush things. He turned back to look at the old soldier.]
I have to thank you for agreeing to escort me out of here. Though I would prefer it if such measures were not necessary for survival.
no subject
Just doing my job.
[Nevermind all of his complicated feelings about anything even remotely connected to Overwatch, at this point. The less he says about any of that, the better. If they’re going to have a conversation, however, he’ll do his best to turn it back around on Zenyatta.]
Shimada was pretty insistent. [On the extra protection. The Omnic is important to him, that much is clear.] Better safe than sorry.
no subject
[At the mention of his student, Zenyatta nods slowly in understanding.]
I should be honoured that one of my brightest pupils would go to such lengths to ensure my safety. [And though his voice was synthetic there was clear warmth to it as he spoke about Genji. Really, he had grown so much under his tutelage, and Zenyatta he couldn't help but feel touched by the gesture.]
It seems you have left an impression on Genji as well. He spoke very highly of your skills.
no subject
Doesn't stop them from trying.]
Speaks highly of you, too.
[He's still trying to wrap his head around the new and improved Genji, so different from the sullen and angry twenty-something he'd met ten years ago. It's not bad, of course--the part of him that still cares about is people is glad to see Genji come to terms with everything that happened and come out better for it.
To his understanding, Zenyatta has a lot to do with the apparent transformation.]
Seems like you really helped him out.
no subject
[He remembers those early days, the confusion and anger and frustration that Genji was full of. But Zenyatta had seen good in him, and he was glad that Genji had improved and found inner peace.]
[He lifts a hand palm-up, one of the orbs around his neck moving to hover above it.]
He was lost, and needed guidance to see that no matter what body he had, his soul is still intact. Human, machine, it did not matter. He is still Genji. True self is without form under the gaze of The Iris.
no subject
The good thing, he thinks, is that he's successfully keeping the conversation trained on Zenyatta--who he admittedly knows very little about, beyond testimony from Shimada.]
You were with the Shambali, right?
[Past tense. He knows that much.]
no subject
Yes, I was originally a part of the Shambali. However, I no longer walk the same path that my brothers and sisters do.
[Zenyatta lowers his hand, the orb returning to join its fellows around his neck, orbiting as if it never left.]
Words and teachings are powerful tools to helping remedy a problem, but they can only go so far. A message is only truly embraced when one reaches out and makes a connection with another. Without personal connection, the gap between peoples cannot truly be bridged.
[He didn't discredit the work that the Shambali have done, but he truly believed that if they reached out and personally interacted with their followers, their goal of mending the bond between humans and omnics could be achieved quicker.]
I believe the proper term is 'actions speak louder than words.'
no subject
Not really something to bring up, he thinks. Instead, he listens. Processes. Keeps an eye out the door and manages to laugh a little when Zenyatta finishes his spiel.]
I can get behind that.
[Says the guy who bombs corporate offices and breaks into old Overwatch bases.]
Is that the name of your game? Getting out here, making personal connections?
no subject
[But those were thoughts for another conversation. Instead, he gives the old soldier a nod, his tone lightening a bit.]
That is the path I have chosen to walk, and I believe that it was the correct choice to make. If I hadn't, I would not have made connections with the humans and omnics I've met so far. I would not have met Genji had I stayed behind.
[Which was why his travels often led him to such dangerous places. It was risky, for sure, but it was necessary; the Shambali's words couldn't reach those who weren't willing to hear them, and he's found that those in the most need of guidance often resided in such places.]
Of course, I know that my path is not an easy one to travel. Were harmony an easy thing to achieve, I would not need armoured assistance just to pass through a city. [He pauses, considering the old man.] Though, perhaps our meeting is more than a simple necessity brought on by circumstance.
no subject
Another low rumble of thunder underscores what 76 can only interpret as a subtle reference to fate--something beyond 'simple necessity' or coincidence.]
What's that supposed to mean?
[It's not a hostile question--there's even some amusement in his voice.]
no subject
[Zenyatta has met many people in his travels, and one thing he's learned is that everyone has a story. Everyone behaves the way they do for a reason, and learning why someone behaves the way they do is often the first step to understanding someone's own perspective. While he isn't going to push his ideals onto people who are unwilling to listen, understanding people at least helps him to offer them some of his own wisdom that he's learned. This soldier, he figures, has his own story, and while he doesn't want to pry into the privacies of the man's life, he can't help but be curious...]
You were there, weren't you? During the Omnic Crisis. [Genji said he knew him, and Zenyatta knew that Genji had worked with Overwatch. Perhaps this man was an old comrade during those days.]
no subject
He isn't worried about betraying his involvement. Most people will guess, given his age and apparent military training. It doesn't necessarily connect him to a dead man.]
I fought in the war.
[Because that's what it was, a war, and his scars from those days aren't exactly going to heal, even if he harbors no ill will towards Omnics like Zenyatta.]
no subject
[So the man had been in that war. He wasn't surprised, given his clear military countenance and his wariness, and he nods slowly.]
I assumed, given your age and Genji's claim of your skill. I can only imagine how difficult it was back then.
[He doesn't make any assumptions about who the man was or what he might have been involved in, just an acknowledgement of the man's struggles against such formidable foes.]
no subject
Be glad you only have to imagine.
[He has more understanding now, some twenty years later. It doesn't change what he's been through, but he likes to think it helps him cope, especially given how the world has reshaped and rebuilt itself, in no small part thanks to Overwatch.]
Most of the Omnics were under the control of the God Programs. They didn't know what they were doing.
no subject
Ignorance is not always bliss. [Even if they were under the God Programs, they did still cause significant damage.] There is a saying that time heals all wounds, but it says little about the scars that are left behind.
no subject
[Says the guy who does literally nothing but dwell on the past, but Zenyatta doesn't have to know that. 76 exists in a strange sort of relationship with who he was and what he'd done and how it had all eventually lead to his own downfall.
All things he tries not to think about, poking his head out the door, watching the pattern of the clouds.]
Is that a belief your order ascribes to?
no subject
[At the old soldier's question, Zenyatta makes a small noise, akin to a hum of thought.]
It's something I've noticed while speaking to the people I've met in my travels. Time passes, and the sting of old injuries both physical and metaphorical fades, but I've noticed that many have a hard time allowing those old wounds to truly be acknowledged and heal.
no subject
That's what he tells himself. Maybe part of him thinks he can get the good old days back.]
Yeah, well. Humans aren't exactly the most rational of sentient beings.
no subject
[Logically, it didn't make sense. But Genji had taught Zenyatta a few things as well; specifically, how humans tended to craft their own logic about something if they didn't have all the proper knowledge, or if they believed something so firmly. He had learned as much when he had tried to help Genji accept his humanity.]
I think that allowing people the chance to heal their personal scars will allow them to be able to move on, and work towards harmony. In doing so, I believe that can truly bridge that gap that has been formed between all of us.
[Of course he's meaning the rift between humans and omnics, but many conflicts could be solved that way, couldn't it?]
no subject
Still, he doesn't find any of this surprising, especially not when Zenyatta turns it into a larger metaphor for humans versus Omnics. 76 has spent a long time hoping there was an easy solution.]
Wish there was a better answer.
no subject
[He truly hoped so, at least.]
[He falls silent for a while, looking out at the rain. It's still coming down, but it looks like it might be lightening up soon.]
And what about your journey after this? A soldier's life is not an easy one.
no subject
[76 is old, but he's not that old. Even then, he's always a little internally overwhelmed when he thinks about how different everything is--not just from his childhood and adolescence, but how different it is from ten years ago, too.
Omnic equality. Who would've thought.
He generally dislikes having the conversation turned back on him, but this is a question he can answer, sort of, even if it's probably not very satisfying.]
Don't stay in one place too long. I've got unfinished business.
no subject
Wherever your journey takes you, I wish you luck in your exploits. I hope that you may find the answers you seek... and the peace that shall follow, when the time comes.
[He tilts his head, looking back out the window.] ...it appears the rain has lightened considerably.
no subject
But Zenyatta is right, and that doesn't seem to be the case, so he hefts his gun and motions toward the entrance.]
Ready?
