rain rain go away;

the rain meme

Ah, rain—the precipitation that the whole world has a love/hate affair with. It waters the garden for free and ruins baseball games. It cools you off in the summer and it causes more ice and sleet to appear in the winter. Sometimes it is lovely and falls at a decent pace for a few hours, other times, it blasts the whole eastern seaboard away.

Poems and songs have been written about it, people have danced in it, others have cursed its entire existence, and still more refuse to go out and drive in it.

Now it’s time to roll some dice and see what the weather will have in store for you today.

directions

1. Comment with your character, series, preferences, etc in the subject.
2. Roll a number between 1-5 with the RGN for an intensity.
3. Roll 1-15 with the RGN for a situation.
4. Reply to other comments and play the scenario out!
5. Don’t catch a cold!

intensity

1. DRIZZLE ☂ It’s not too heavy or too light of a downpour, just enough to wash away stuff in the air, water the ground, and clean up the streets.

2. MONSOON ☂ It’s horrible and awful! Rain is coming down in buckets, no one can get anywhere, the wind is whipping everything about, and now the cable is out.

3. SHOWER ☂ Reminds you of early spring, doesn’t it? A nice shower to make everything all green and smell fresh again. Lovely.

4. FLOOD ☂ While rain is good, it can sometimes be bad. Grab a boat!

5. CATS & DOGS ☂ You’re lucky with this one. It’s not the worst storm in the world, but it’s still pretty heavy. Be careful when driving!

prompts

1. A DARK, STORMY NIGHT ☂ You know all those stories that start off with a stormy night before something goes wrong: a murder, an attack by ninjas, a crime. It is one of the best known clichés in the world, and you’re stuck in the middle of it.

2. HUMIDITY ☂ It’s that time of the year again when the humidity rises and the rain has two options: make it worse or make it go away. Good luck getting the latter.

3. GRAY RAIN OF DEPRESSION ☂ We all know this one. Stuck in the middle of no where, or right after an argument, or something that leads to angst, the rain decides to express someone’s feelings in a physical form, serious or over the top.

4. QUIET MORNING ☂ Nothing to do, nowhere to be… sometimes the rain is a welcomed addition to a quiet day. Gives you an excuse to stay in, curl up in a warm blanket and a book, maybe a loved one or a cup of hot chocolate. With sprinkles.

5. PUDDLES ☂ After it rains, what is the number one thing you have to do? Go put on some rubber boots and splash around of course!

6. SUDDEN STORM ☂ It might have been predicted, but sometimes storms just sweep in and do their thing with little to no warning. Hope you’re not outside.

7. THUNDER & LIGHTNING ☂ Loud, surprising, scary, ominous, comforting, fantastic to watch or listen to… some like thunder and lightning, others not so much. Of course, if this happens before a big confrontation, the universe is telling you something.

8. CAN’T GET WORSE ☂ You did not say that. You did not just say that. How many times does this need to be seen in movies and books before anyone learns?

9. STUCK ☂ No, no, no, no. This cannot be happening. What happened to the ten percent chance of rain? You forgot your umbrella and now you’re stuck in it!

10. RUINED PLANS ☂ You had all these wonderful plans to go outside, have some fun in the sunshine, do some errands, maybe a date… and the weather goes against them.

11. DANCING ☂ Sometimes rain is a cause for celebration, or you just feel like doing something spontaneous. Grab someone to join you and get wet!

12. RAIN BATTLE ☂ The most intense, important battles happen in the rain. Verbal spars, punching someone in the guts; it’s all dramatic and climatic. And no one slips.

13. DATE ☂ Aww, don’t let the weather ruin your date! It can be really romantic, being out in the rain, and it’s always fun to go with the flow.

14. A DAY INSIDE ☂ Sometimes, it’s just better to stay inside and enjoy something simple and easy like board games or catching up on TV shows, or maybe the bills.

15. WILD CARD ☂ Was there something I missed? Did you want to roll again or choose your own adventure? Go for it!

That's ususally the case most of the time, isn't it? :B

[That is the impression he is getting, and the omnic monk can't help but ponder on it. The man has clearly seen some battles, but he wonders if there's more about the way he remains so on-edge than just because of their current situation.]

[He shifts a bit to look at the storm as he hovers, his orbs slowly spinning a bit before settling again.]

It will pass when it is time. Patience is a virtue, after all.

[Really, he doesn't care how long it takes to get out of the area. Sometimes it didn't do well to rush things. He turned back to look at the old soldier.]

I have to thank you for agreeing to escort me out of here. Though I would prefer it if such measures were not necessary for survival.

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-10 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[He makes an affirmative noise in the back of his throat—76 is not exactly the most patient person in the world. He gets antsy in situations like this, and perhaps it shows, or perhaps he’s just naturally wary, the itch of his trigger finger evident as he keeps an eye out.]

Just doing my job.

[Nevermind all of his complicated feelings about anything even remotely connected to Overwatch, at this point. The less he says about any of that, the better. If they’re going to have a conversation, however, he’ll do his best to turn it back around on Zenyatta.]

Shimada was pretty insistent. [On the extra protection. The Omnic is important to him, that much is clear.] Better safe than sorry.
discordandharmony: (We walk in harmony)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-10 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[The omnic monk doesn't know the full story behind the man's turmoil, but regardless of his wariness Zenyatta was still grateful. Genji trusted the man to get him out when he himself couldn't, so that alone spoke to the man's integrity, even with his distaste in omnics.]

[At the mention of his student, Zenyatta nods slowly in understanding.]

I should be honoured that one of my brightest pupils would go to such lengths to ensure my safety. [And though his voice was synthetic there was clear warmth to it as he spoke about Genji. Really, he had grown so much under his tutelage, and Zenyatta he couldn't help but feel touched by the gesture.]

It seems you have left an impression on Genji as well. He spoke very highly of your skills.
mylawn: (raaaghghrh)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[76 would like to keep it that way, of course, at least for people not directly related to the old Overwatch. Genji knows--there's no real hiding from the agents he'd surrounded himself with in another life, but they all recognize the need to leave him be and keep quiet, because anything else would put them all in danger. He's content to think of himself as a different person, anyway. If anyone is hoping to pull Jack Morrison out of Soldier: 76, they'll surely be disappointed.

Doesn't stop them from trying.
]

Speaks highly of you, too.

[He's still trying to wrap his head around the new and improved Genji, so different from the sullen and angry twenty-something he'd met ten years ago. It's not bad, of course--the part of him that still cares about is people is glad to see Genji come to terms with everything that happened and come out better for it.

To his understanding, Zenyatta has a lot to do with the apparent transformation.
]

Seems like you really helped him out.
discordandharmony: (I think. Therefore I am)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Genji was a troubled soul when I first met him. He had much discord and anger burning within him due to what he had become.

[He remembers those early days, the confusion and anger and frustration that Genji was full of. But Zenyatta had seen good in him, and he was glad that Genji had improved and found inner peace.]

[He lifts a hand palm-up, one of the orbs around his neck moving to hover above it.]

He was lost, and needed guidance to see that no matter what body he had, his soul is still intact. Human, machine, it did not matter. He is still Genji. True self is without form under the gaze of The Iris.
mylawn: (hrmrmmbmghgh)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-13 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[76 sees the movement of the orb in his periphery, and tears his gaze away from the door for a brief moment, watching it. There's still a lot he can't quite wrap his mind around, but he thinks he's beyond the point of finding anything outright strange. Genji is familiar territory, at least, and there's a noise in the back of his throat that might be a laugh as Zenyatta asserts that he was, perhaps, just as difficult as 76 remembers.

The good thing, he thinks, is that he's successfully keeping the conversation trained on Zenyatta--who he admittedly knows very little about, beyond testimony from Shimada.
]

You were with the Shambali, right?

[Past tense. He knows that much.]
discordandharmony: (Be one with the universe)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-13 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh yes, despite Genji being one of his favourite students, he was also one of his most difficult. Judging by the laugh, Genji hadn't been that way with just him during those early years.]

Yes, I was originally a part of the Shambali. However, I no longer walk the same path that my brothers and sisters do.

[Zenyatta lowers his hand, the orb returning to join its fellows around his neck, orbiting as if it never left.]

Words and teachings are powerful tools to helping remedy a problem, but they can only go so far. A message is only truly embraced when one reaches out and makes a connection with another. Without personal connection, the gap between peoples cannot truly be bridged.

[He didn't discredit the work that the Shambali have done, but he truly believed that if they reached out and personally interacted with their followers, their goal of mending the bond between humans and omnics could be achieved quicker.]

I believe the proper term is 'actions speak louder than words.'
mylawn: (raaaghghrh)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[76 considers himself fairly well-researched. You don't run around being a vigilante without knowing what you're doing (well, you could, but it would be a bad idea), and he stays abreast of the vast and multi-faceted spiderweb of current events. Though the finer points of the Shambali might be lost on him, he understands the gist. Knows the larger, more global repercussions of Mondatta's recent assassination.

Not really something to bring up, he thinks. Instead, he listens. Processes. Keeps an eye out the door and manages to laugh a little when Zenyatta finishes his spiel.
]

I can get behind that.

[Says the guy who bombs corporate offices and breaks into old Overwatch bases.]

Is that the name of your game? Getting out here, making personal connections?
discordandharmony: (True self is without form)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-14 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mondatta's death was truly a tragedy, and it deeply upset Zenyatta to know that someone had wanted to silence his message of peace so badly that they thought it necessary to kill him. He worried for what this would do to the progress the Shambali had made, and how the Shambali's remaining members would function without their leader.]

[But those were thoughts for another conversation. Instead, he gives the old soldier a nod, his tone lightening a bit.]

That is the path I have chosen to walk, and I believe that it was the correct choice to make. If I hadn't, I would not have made connections with the humans and omnics I've met so far. I would not have met Genji had I stayed behind.

[Which was why his travels often led him to such dangerous places. It was risky, for sure, but it was necessary; the Shambali's words couldn't reach those who weren't willing to hear them, and he's found that those in the most need of guidance often resided in such places.]

Of course, I know that my path is not an easy one to travel. Were harmony an easy thing to achieve, I would not need armoured assistance just to pass through a city. [He pauses, considering the old man.] Though, perhaps our meeting is more than a simple necessity brought on by circumstance.
mylawn: (pic#10463781)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-17 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[76 isn't sure how much of this he buys into, but that doesn't mean he isn't willing to listen. He's self-aware as far as that's concerned, knowing that he is, in part, a product of his experiences. People who didn't fight in the war--people who don't remember what it was like--aren't going to have the same outlook that he does. It's difficult for him to see a path to equality the way Zenyatta might, but he isn't going to write off the effort. There's still a part of him that wants to see the world become better, even after everything.

Another low rumble of thunder underscores what 76 can only interpret as a subtle reference to fate--something beyond 'simple necessity' or coincidence.
]

What's that supposed to mean?

[It's not a hostile question--there's even some amusement in his voice.]
discordandharmony: (Revenge is not justice)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-17 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I simply mean that perhaps the universe meant for us to meet in this way, to give us a chance to talk as we are now. [His tone is still light, and were he human he would probably have a small smile on his face.] I must admit, given the circumstances, it has been quite amicable.

[Zenyatta has met many people in his travels, and one thing he's learned is that everyone has a story. Everyone behaves the way they do for a reason, and learning why someone behaves the way they do is often the first step to understanding someone's own perspective. While he isn't going to push his ideals onto people who are unwilling to listen, understanding people at least helps him to offer them some of his own wisdom that he's learned. This soldier, he figures, has his own story, and while he doesn't want to pry into the privacies of the man's life, he can't help but be curious...]

You were there, weren't you? During the Omnic Crisis. [Genji said he knew him, and Zenyatta knew that Genji had worked with Overwatch. Perhaps this man was an old comrade during those days.]
mylawn: (pic#10467983)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-17 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, there it is. 76 lets out that noise again--something that might be a laugh from the back of his throat. It's short-lived, however, trailing off when Zenyatta mentions the Crisis.

He isn't worried about betraying his involvement. Most people will guess, given his age and apparent military training. It doesn't necessarily connect him to a dead man.
]

I fought in the war.

[Because that's what it was, a war, and his scars from those days aren't exactly going to heal, even if he harbors no ill will towards Omnics like Zenyatta.]
discordandharmony: (A lesson in humility)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-17 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Zenyatta didn't mind the light not-chuckle at the talks of fate. Most tended to, but the universe did have a way of aligning in ways that allowed certain opportunities to be arise, and what else could one call it but fate? Of course, what one did with such opportunities wasn't set in stone; that was left up to the individual.]

[So the man had been in that war. He wasn't surprised, given his clear military countenance and his wariness, and he nods slowly.]

I assumed, given your age and Genji's claim of your skill. I can only imagine how difficult it was back then.

[He doesn't make any assumptions about who the man was or what he might have been involved in, just an acknowledgement of the man's struggles against such formidable foes.]

[It's easier, when talking about the Crisis, to keep his focus out the door, watching the torrential downpour outside, the steady streams of water flowing down the street. When he finally speaks, there's a certain gravity to his voice, and it's clear his mind is elsewhere.]

Be glad you only have to imagine.

[He has more understanding now, some twenty years later. It doesn't change what he's been through, but he likes to think it helps him cope, especially given how the world has reshaped and rebuilt itself, in no small part thanks to Overwatch.]

Most of the Omnics were under the control of the God Programs. They didn't know what they were doing.
discordandharmony: (Revenge is not justice)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-18 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[It doesn't take an expert to figure out that those years had been hard on the old soldier. Zenyatta has only really heard stories of the Omnic Crisis, viewed the old video footage that was available to the public. Those were difficult enough to watch; it must have been an entirely different matter to experience them firsthand.]

Ignorance is not always bliss. [Even if they were under the God Programs, they did still cause significant damage.] There is a saying that time heals all wounds, but it says little about the scars that are left behind.
mylawn: (raaaghghrh)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-19 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't do much good to dwell on the past.

[Says the guy who does literally nothing but dwell on the past, but Zenyatta doesn't have to know that. 76 exists in a strange sort of relationship with who he was and what he'd done and how it had all eventually lead to his own downfall.

All things he tries not to think about, poking his head out the door, watching the pattern of the clouds.
]

Is that a belief your order ascribes to?
discordandharmony: (We walk in harmony)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-21 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree... though it bodes well to keep it in mind so past mistakes aren't repeated.

[At the old soldier's question, Zenyatta makes a small noise, akin to a hum of thought.]

It's something I've noticed while speaking to the people I've met in my travels. Time passes, and the sting of old injuries both physical and metaphorical fades, but I've noticed that many have a hard time allowing those old wounds to truly be acknowledged and heal.
mylawn: (pic#10467983)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-22 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's the idea, sort of--if not for him, then for all the Recall agents. They're trying to restart Overwatch with very little idea of what really happened to it in the first place, and 76 won't see them make the same mistakes he did.

That's what he tells himself. Maybe part of him thinks he can get the good old days back.
]

Yeah, well. Humans aren't exactly the most rational of sentient beings.
discordandharmony: (True self is without form)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-23 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps that is so. But I've learned that many humans tend to operate in their own realm of logic. Genji has mentioned such about his brother. From what he told me, his brother has inflicted many wounds upon himself, and refuses to allow himself to heal. That is, in his mind, how he copes with his pain.

[Logically, it didn't make sense. But Genji had taught Zenyatta a few things as well; specifically, how humans tended to craft their own logic about something if they didn't have all the proper knowledge, or if they believed something so firmly. He had learned as much when he had tried to help Genji accept his humanity.]

I think that allowing people the chance to heal their personal scars will allow them to be able to move on, and work towards harmony. In doing so, I believe that can truly bridge that gap that has been formed between all of us.

[Of course he's meaning the rift between humans and omnics, but many conflicts could be solved that way, couldn't it?]
mylawn: (pic#10433703)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-25 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Hanzo Shimada had a dossier that crossed his desk at one point--76 doesn't remember much on it, much less what Genji's older brother does to cope with the trauma of murdering one's sibling. He'd been preoccupied with dismantling the clan's criminal operations, not the interpersonal issues of the heirs.

Still, he doesn't find any of this surprising, especially not when Zenyatta turns it into a larger metaphor for humans versus Omnics. 76 has spent a long time hoping there was an easy solution.
]

Wish there was a better answer.
discordandharmony: (Adversity is an opportunity for change)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-10-26 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
As do I. But the world is still changing. Perhaps one will arise in time.

[He truly hoped so, at least.]

[He falls silent for a while, looking out at the rain. It's still coming down, but it looks like it might be lightening up soon.]

And what about your journey after this? A soldier's life is not an easy one.
mylawn: (pic#10433717)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-10-27 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
World's always changing.

[76 is old, but he's not that old. Even then, he's always a little internally overwhelmed when he thinks about how different everything is--not just from his childhood and adolescence, but how different it is from ten years ago, too.

Omnic equality. Who would've thought.

He generally dislikes having the conversation turned back on him, but this is a question he can answer, sort of, even if it's probably not very satisfying.
]

Don't stay in one place too long. I've got unfinished business.
discordandharmony: (True self is without form)

[personal profile] discordandharmony 2016-11-01 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Zenyatta merely nods in acknowledgement of the short answer. The soldier had been short on a lot of answers, and he wasn't going to push it. His story was his own to write.]

Wherever your journey takes you, I wish you luck in your exploits. I hope that you may find the answers you seek... and the peace that shall follow, when the time comes.

[He tilts his head, looking back out the window.] ...it appears the rain has lightened considerably.
mylawn: (pic#10433705)

[personal profile] mylawn 2016-11-03 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a noise in the back of his throat that might be a laugh, but he keeps his gaze trained out the door. He's been watching the rain ebb for the last few minutes, giving them a little extra time just in case the weather decides to change its mind.

But Zenyatta is right, and that doesn't seem to be the case, so he hefts his gun and motions toward the entrance.
]
