Here’s the gist of it. Your characters are flung into an adventure! Maybe you’re fighting aliens in space, warding off zombies in an abandoned city, or fighting dragons to save a castle. There’s lots of things to do here. If you need a reason for why your characters are together to do this? Well a Wizard did it. Or come up with something more imaginative. Now here’s some ideas of where to set it and what’s going on.



Settings

1. High Fantasy - Castles and dragons galore. A simpler time when you only had to worry about paying taxes, becoming a knight, and hoping the latest monster in the area doesn’t decide to pick on your village. The King (or Queen!) is always in need of strapping adventurers to come save the day!

2. Low Fantasy - If the pristine thing isn’t your cup of tea, then maybe this poorly washed tankard of mead is. Things are grittier, people rarely live to see thirty, and you’re less concerned about dragons than you are about your king making your life harder. Maybe it’s about time someone fixed things around here.

3. Seven Seas - Yarr! There be no adventure mightier than on the open seas, where pirates and stuffy naval officers rule the waters. Sometimes you’re dealing with the brutality of a world encased in a wooden tub or you’re dealing with fantastical creatures like krakens and mermaids. Who can say what treasures lies in yonder island?

4. Old West - In the olden days, where law and justice was served or taken from the barrel of a gun. Whether it’s hunting outlaws or trying to make way with stolen money, the old west attracted all sorts of people. It’s a tough world to live in, but there’s no use fussing about it. Just grab a horse and make your fortune.

5. Stone Age - Remember when life was simple? Me want thing, me hit you and take it. In a day of anachronistic dinosaurs and cavemen, living side by side and killing one another, where creatures we never really wanted to imagine roam the world and think you’re delicious. Good luck trying to find somewhere to sleep.

6. Micro World - Sometimes the most exciting places are around your own home! That is, of course, assuming you’re the size of a flea (or perhaps bigger) and your only goal is to try and avoid getting crushed. A common mouse can become a terrifying creature when its the size of an elephant. But there’s gotta be a way to get back to your normal size, right?

7. Outer Space - Why stay home when there’s a whole universe out there? Whether you’re on a seven year mission or engaging in a thinly veiled fantasy pretending to be a space opera, there’s no limits to what can happen when you’re in the infinite universe.

8. Post Apocalyptic - Well damn. The world’s over and nobody bothered to tell you, because you managed to survive. Maybe it was a virus. Or war. Or a natural disaster. Or heck, let’s face it, I bet it was zombies. Again. Well there’s nothing for it but to pack up your weapons and head for the hills.

9. The City - What’s more familiar than the modern city? Nothing ever happens there. Except for maybe crime gangs. Car chases. Secret agents on daring missions. Superheroes fighting supervillains. Or maybe it’s a Godzilla coming down the street. Will you try and stop the city from going to hell or just get out of Dodge before its too late?

10. Something Else - Don’t be limited by the above. There’s other places too! Like a virtual world, heaven or hell, underground, somewhere in the future, or in the past, or in some ridiculous wonderland. The power is yours.

What Are We Doing?

1. Treasure Hunters - You’re a pair only out for one thing - treasure. Oh, sure, maybe it’s for a museum or something. But it could just be to line your own pocket too. Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to find something.

2. Big Damn Heroes - This isn’t about monetary gain. You’re a couple of heroes whose only purpose is to make things better, one amazing explosion at a time. Bad guys beware.

3. Outlaws - Psh. Who wants to save the day when you be making your own day better any way you want to? You’re too awesome for the law to ever catch. But it’ll be fun seeing them try.

4. Time Travelers - We’re here for one simple reason. The history books said it would be cool. Or maybe it said it would be awful and we’d like to change that. Whatever the case is, we’re not from around these parts.

5. Explorers - Being heroic is good and all, but that’s all been there and done that. Let’s discover something new no one has ever seen before. Why? Because it’s there.

6. Fugitives - Do we WANT to be here? Hell no. But here is better than there. Or at least that’s the plan. Hopefully no one will find us here.

7. Soldiers - We’re doing this for the love of our country. Or because they told us to, even though we’d really rather not. (Or maybe you’re secret agents instead!)

8. Buddy Cops - You’re just two people just trying to do your job. Sure, maybe they don’t have cops on the high sea or in medieval times. So you’re buddy sailors. Buddy knights. Whatever.

9. Wrong Place and Wrong Time - Are you people crazy? We didn’t want any of this! It just happened to us! Can we go home now?

10. Whatever - Hey, I don’t own you. Be what you wanna be! Those were just suggestions!

Now if you don’t know how to handle what relationship your characters should have, you can either just go with the flow or randomize between:
(1) Strangers, (2) Friends, (3) Rivals, or (4) Lovers.

[ Once upon a time there was a fantastic country named America. He wound up in some apocalyptic city with a Latin name. Shit happened and now he has a chainsaw in place of his right hand. That is where this meme story begins.

For convenience sake, let's say he got in a time-traveling phone booth and ended up in 18yettobedetermined. Yes, temporal reality whispered in awe, such time-traveling glory is perfectly legitimate and beautiful. The universe shed a single tear. The darkest corners of space that dared to point out how absurdly stupid this plot is (and that it's overly-elaborate for a simple meme) were shunned by the stars, the moons, and time itself sent anon hate messages to dark space.

While all of this was happening on a universal scale, America stepped out his phone booth and into a familiar world of blazing guns, blazing saddles, and blazing dicks infected with venereal diseases.

Yes. This is sure to be an excellent adventure. ]

[ Time travel really isn't so bad when you have something epic playing in the background like Muse or T.Rex blaring in the background or a nice scarf and a sonic screwdriver. It wouldn't even be so bad if the company was well-mannered and easy to take into public, perhaps a chatty sort that knew when to hunker down and get serious about things, but was polite and amiable enough to take to high tea if Arthur so desired.

Unfortunately, England possessed none of those things at the moment, and his companion couldn't be further from who he was currently travelling with. Honestly, the chainsaw was a bit gaudy, but hardly the biggest issue when it came to the younger blond nation. The worst part about his dear, sweet America partner was probably the fact he didn't have any screws left to be loose, and had the attention span of a gnat and the social competency of a rock.

He could have cared less about the phone booth, (should have been a police box anyway), and hoped to God that they wouldn't be stuck in this awful, dusty, thirsty, limitless expanse of western American terrain for long. He could stand the stupid post-apocalyptic movie set that he'd been stranded in for months now well enough, but this, this was seriously pushing it.

As soon as they stepped out of the phone booth England realised they were not wearing the same clothes as they were ten minutes ago, taking note of this change in outfit with a certain itchiness in his clothing characteristic of none other than the glorious 19th century. Great, just great. The longer he stayed around these parts, the longer he would have to watch the decline of his empire.

Again.

The first thing he'd tried was to get right back in that phone booth and try to make it take him somewhere else. Anywhere else. But for some reason, the damned thing didn't want to work for him, and after a frustrated fifteen minutes of cursing and banging his hand against the dialing pad, Arthur exited the phone booth once more, shoulders slumping, defeat etched into his features.

Adjusting his (really stupid) hat, Arthur huffed, crossed his arms, and glared over at America with a scowl. He could be counting his blessings about how they weren't being eaten by a dinosaur, or that they were on top of a high cliff overlooking a town in the valley instead of walking out into the middle of a crowded city where they'd probably be stoned to death, or even that he had some company on this trip instead of being miserably displaced in time alone, but he wasn't. Because he wasn't gracious. Because being eaten alive, stoned to death, or alone were all far, far better options in his mind than being stuck with this idiot. ]

Great. Great, just great. Anymore brilliant ideas from you, Alfred? Maybe for fun, just maybe, we should try sticking sharp things in our eyes. [ A hand to his head, and he curls his fingers into blond strands and yanks, tearing out a chunk of hair in stifled frustration. ]

A lot of stuff happened or maybe it was a little. But suddenly, you are met by a chipper, selfless, almost angelic girl who claims that you are now friends for some reason. And she doesn't judge, which is hard to come by.

[The tavern smells of piss, beer, and worse. The High King is too controlled (a conditioned trait) to wrinkle his nose, but he does pause outside to breathe a few last breaths of clean air before plunging in. In this getup, he looks lower-middle class at best, but nothing hides the poise of an officer.]

[The opening door got quite a few glances from those closest, though most looked away almost immediately, an instinctual tick brought on by the flash of outdoor light and nothing more. A handful, though, lingered a bit longer, taking in the poised set of the newcomer's shoulders and his lean cut, searching for weapons or wealth or other signs of interest. One by one, they faded away, with only the occasional glance from the corner of an eye. He was an object of interest, but only barely.

For Faith, her lingering glance came more from seeing a pretty face than anything else. That, really was more notable than his clothes. There were any number of unsavory sorts gathered around the tables. Most wore the hallmarks of rough lives...grimy faces, missing teeth, beer bellies, or old scars. In a place like this, an unmarked, handsome face was a sign all on it's own.

She, of course, stood out in her own right...which was half the reason the table she was at was already full. At first glance, the dingy slacks and tunic could have let her pass as a slender boy...but a closer look would allow for no such mistake. The neckline had been left untied, hinting at a figure that was anything but boyish, and her lips were painted a deep red that stood out against her pale skin and dark hair.

She gave the newcomer one last, appreciative glance, before turning her attention back to the man across from her.]

Another one? I'm starting to think the flies are outnumbered.

"Bloody hell." Practically a catch phrase, as Spike ripped off the door of an abandoned Buick. He wasn't intending to drive it, but when you see a car with its doors not ripped off, you stop to figure that maybe it's because nobody's raided it yet. So that's just what he intends to do. See if he can't find anything useful in it before he moves on in this once beautiful city.

He's also a lot better at playing the "good cop" end than the "bad cop" one, but he's more likely than some to act prematurely based on emotion, and therefore, almost definitely going to get fired if he doesn't calm down. Still, he's damn likable, and loyal as hell. If only he didn't get that grin when doing something suicidal.]

((So back at the little camp, Jake returns, and he looks pretty much beat-the-fuck-up. He's holding half a loaf of bread, grinning. Dirt is smeared across his face, blood drips down the side of his head. He almost always looks this bad when he comes back from going alone.

Perhaps he approaches you with the bread, just stopping for a moment to mumble "Here you are! Fresh from the kitchen, though it took a bit of a hit" as he hands it to you. He can stay for a chat.

If you're not the one receiving bread? He's walking away, and after not too long, he'll collapse. Guess he got himself beat up a little more than usual. Might wanna check on him--if he's dead, he'll need to be disposed of quickly. If he's alive, well, he'll need a little help.))

[Well, that was a huge screw up. He ran through the portal, following after his family, hoping to come out at Terra Nova... And ended up... He doesn't know. Something... happened, and now he was out in the... desert? Looks like a desert. Everything seems... out of perspective. And he's been walking for hours, it now being night.

In the distance, Jim can see fire. A camp? He doesn't know, but it's the first thing he's seen since oddly huge cacti, so he's going to start running towards it, hoping there's people there.]

[There is a problem with trying to organize a revolution against beings who can, in theory, watch your every move and who have powers you don't fully comprehend. Sometimes, if you fail, they use those powers.

The process of removing the tattoos... too painful to go into. But it's been pain well worth it, for it's meant survival. A life at sea, mooring Britannia when necessary. They've become, he's afraid, little more than pirates at times. Third Party and (especially) Malnosso ships (even the flying ones) become prey in the sights of the cannons and more sophisticated weapons they've grown used to using. Still... he understands now the French and the Irish.

Better to die free than to live under tyranny.

This particular venture ashore, on an island uncovered by the barrier's sudden expansion three months ago, is for fresh water and fresh fruit. The rest of their supplies can last another month or two with careful rationing. The captain of the ship is ashore, along with the majority of his "crew"-- sailors and the refugees who had thought to follow him in his stand in the first place.

He has his Naval coat off and the top three buttons of his waistcoat undone while his neckcloth is loosed but not removed. His curly hair is ten times more so in the humidity, but he is doing his best to supervise the efforts of collecting supplies and loading the ships.

The heat, though, is exhausting, and he isn't allowing himself the same rests he requires the three teams working rounds to take.]

[Faith always felt like the outsider. The Mayor had been the one to tell her she had no place in this world, but she'd believed it long before then. She was something separate. Unnecessary. Out of place. But however alienated she usually felt, this was a whole new level of uncomfortable.

Lady Genevieve's party was already well underway, the upper echelon of British society gathering to gossip and pretend to actually like the peers they toasted. Standing in the line of arriving guests, it took all her power not to fidget as she tried to remember all the instructions Giles had given her. Stand straight. Chin up. Be still and stiff, rather than lounging and casual. Look down on the world as if she wasn't wishing she could go hide somewhere and curl up into a ball.

...At least one of those was familiar.

One gloved hand reached up to check her hair (and the sharpened chopsticks tucked in the elegant french twist it had been put up in), and she forced herself to take a slow, steadying breath before fixing her face in the haughtiest expression she could manage and striding forward with all intents of passing up the security.

No such luck.]

For a moment, she really thought she might forget everything she'd worked on for the past week, but the words that came were almost perfectly accented Queen's English. Not bad for the G-man. You call this security? Daddy wouldn't let me go to the market without more firepower than what you children are carrying. Not that his excellency the viscount of Avalon would ever send his daughter on a servant's errand.

[the guard barely seemed to be listening to her as he swept the metal detector over the silk of her dress. Faith heard him mutter a quiet "she's clean," to the man, but she didn't have a chance to breathe a sigh of relief before the suited gentleman held out his hand to her]

If I could just see your invitation, then?

[trying hard to swallow the fear rising in her throat, she sneered at the man]

Do you honestly expect me to wave around some cheap piece of parchment like a bleeding sped in line at the cinema? Let me inside before I have you sent back to whichever stable-house detail your superiors mistakenly pulled you off of.

Oh, sure, the aliens had made it back to their homeworld. But they really didn't expect to hold them, did they?
