I made a promise
![]() A big old ring with a big old stone, or some plastic thing from a gumball machine. A necklace with a family history. A cool hat with your own personal logo on it, or your favorite shirt. A grungy ninja cowl. A lovebite to the neck. The trinket can be anything, and the proposal doesn't have to be for marriage. All this gift from one to another has to represent is a promise: one that means you take the relationship between the two of you seriously and you want to take things to the next level - whether you openly acknowledge this fact or not. Oh, and this promise is also a sign to the whole darn world that this person is off the market. Can't forget that side effect. All that aside, it's time to give that special someone what you've settled on, no matter if you've mulled over what to offer them forever or if this is a spur of the moment decision.

Rey | SW: TFA | OTA
Why, hello there, Rey.
He wasn't stupid. No, far from it. When he applied himself to the things he shrugged off more than a decade earlier, he actually did pretty well. He passed all of the tests on the first try, and was even offered the chance to walk across the stage at a real graduation ceremony! (Something he never thought he would get the chance to do.) The real kicker, though...
"Rey, you're not going to believe this. But they want me to speak at this thing." He laughed nervously, pulling out the papers for renting a cap and gown. Rey promised to help measure him after they both got off work. "Me..."

The details had been sketchy - still were, really - but the only fact that Emerald and Mercury had to really focus on was that, without Cinder, they were up Shit Creek with nary a paddle in sight. Roman was dead. Neo was gone. Adam would probably kill them himself if he had the chance, now that Cinder was out of the picture, and Salem... well, they both only really knew her name. Nothing more. Any way of reaching her, finding her, was a secret only their former boss was privy to.
And they were smack dab in the middle of a world that now wanted nothing more than to hunt them down and make them pay for what they'd done.
So they did what came natural - they survived. They ran. They fought when they had to, hid when they had to, did whatever it took to stay ahead of the hounds one day at a time. Emerald had the know-how for staying out of sight, Mercury had the firepower to help them get away when things went bad. The circumstances weren't ideal. Really, they more or less sucked.
But they've managed to go a whole month, now, and that's something.
This night has them hiding out in a small village, in a house that had been condemned for one reason or another. It was shoddy, it was ugly, it didn't smell great and there were probably at least fifty different species of vermin sharing the home with them. But it was four walls and a roof, which was better than they could manage to find most days, so it would have to do.
For now Mercury's surveying the layout, wandering from one room to the next, hands on his hips. ]
