[This isn't how Cullen pictured his day to go. He knew it would be filled with boring meetings until the afternoon, but he expected something exciting to happen during the last one. He and Jack have been talking about making him Guard Captain in the past. Cullen is a humble man, but he knows that there is no one else as capable as he is for the job. Yet, when the topic comes up the name of an another man comes up, and Cullen is past by.

At first he thinks it is a simple mistake, but then Jack doesn't mention it. Jack doesn't even look at him when it comes up or afterward, even as Cullen stare at him trying not to look as heartbroken as he is. It takes a moment before his expression harden and he becomes stoic as he tries to think of what could have happened for this. It didn't take long until he figures it out. The fresh scar on his chest still pings in a dull pain that normally he can ignore, but it seems stronger now. He waits, eyes still on Jack as everyone else leaves the board room. It's quiet now, an odd tension between them before Cullen even begins to speak.]
