i . INFECTION.

• 1. YOU ARE INFECTED. It could be days, hours, or even minutes before you turn. Do you keep it to yourself and pray for a cure? Or do you hand your weapon over and trust your friend to put you down before you can hurt anyone?
• 2. YOU KNOW. At least, you're pretty sure. They've been getting thinner, weaker, and the temperature that they're running can't be good. How do you proceed?
• 3. THEY'RE STILL HUMAN. These zombies are still people, you're the only one that sees it.
• 4. IT'S YOU OR ME. There's no way the two of you can get out of here alive. Are you a good enough friend to let them go, or are you the sort to ensure that you only have to outrun them?
• 5. ABOMINATION. You've handled everything you've come across so far, but this is just wrong. Be it a baby, an animal, or a horrific mutation that grants it special powers—this one is throwing you for a loop.
• 6. NOT YOU. You recognize that one. Maybe it's a family member, a close friend, a lover, or a co-worker - you know who they are. Do you have the strength to do what needs to be done?

ii . SUPPLIES.

• 1. NOTHING LEFT. You're running out of almost everything. You've only got enough to feed one person now. Do you give it up, or are you ready to kill so that you may survive?
• 2. FOOD RUN. You and your buddy are all that stands between your group and cannibalism. Better hop to it.
• 3. ROTTEN. It's sat out too long and now everything is bad. You might have eaten it before you realized how rotten it was and now you're paying the price.
• 4. STOCKED. You found the ideal hideout and you want for nothing.

iii. YOU AGAINST THE WORLD

• 1. YOU'VE GOT A PLAN. You can protect your team, but it might cost you your life.
• 2. IMPROVISED WEAPONRY. They're closing in and you've got to think fast.
• 3. MUTINY. You're tired of their authority. You can do a better job.
• 4. ESCAPE. That city was getting too full, you've hotwired and tricked out a vehicle and now you're getting the hell out of dodge. Any zombie causalities are completely intentional.
• 5. SURROUNDED. Your safe space isn't so safe. They're on all sides of you and you're starting to run out of ammo.
• 6. NEVER ENDING ROAD TRIP. You've been in this car for ages, everyone is getting tired, and you're not sure where a safe rest stop is.
• 7. YOU WERE IN ON IT. You're safe in the head office of EVIL INC. and nothing can go wrong. Unless that clumsy scientist knocks that vial over, or unless one of your co-workers goes mad with the guilt. Or maybe you didn't know what you were getting into, maybe you've switched sides and you two aim to fix this mess.
• 8. ONLY ONES LEFT. Everyone else is dead. You're all that's left in the world. Where do you go from here?

( alex had been fast enough to break out when the swarm hit them, reactive enough to know what it took when the zombies - not zombies, erik reminds himself - their own brothers had been converted, made into some kind of twisted creation, lacking their own will but carrying all the same efficiency of their powers and abilities. it had been one of erik's worst nightmares, the kind of thought he dreamed of, knowing his fellow mutants would fall under the scrutiny of a government one day, and needless to say, it came through. another one of erik's supposed "delusions", which he'd now chalk up for himself if it wasn't for the fact that he and alex were now struggling to break out of charles' mansion, when charles, hank, and the others were right on their heels, their mutations affording them an extra sense of strength that they might have lacked. )

Run. ( the command goes without saying, but erik does so anyway, as he throws out a hand and the double doors in front of them grant them entry silently. an unspoken curse, a bit of regret that he wasn't fast enough to save the other mutants, that they had turned and he only managed to rescue alex before they could get the younger mutant as well. his hands curl into fists at the thought of charles xavier, once the world's most brilliant mind of mutations, now reduced to possibly the only sentient zombie on the planet, capable of thought, capable of killing them. he hadn't arrived fast enough to save them all, and erik had watched the virus unleash in a single cloud of dusty smoke, alex right there with him, preventing the mutant from entering the grounds.

part of him wondered how alex might have felt, but there wasn't any time to feel any guilt, not like this. )

Logan had done his best to keep everyone in his group alive but when they were overrun he killed as many as he could. To his horror he watched those he had grown close to taken one by one. The woman he loved and her son, and he couldn't even save them. He had traveled with his German Shepherd Zues until he came across another person.

[These aren't normal zoms. Not the ones they've seen at Abel Township since the outbreak began. It's taken all of their resources just to hold the horde off at the gates. Runners keep journeying out to gather whatever resources they can, to keep the lines of communication open. Fewer and fewer are managing to make it home, though.]

[It isn't until Chris Shell- Runner 10- never comes home from a mission to the hospital that Runner 5 is scrambled. It doesn't take him long to discover why his cohort never made it back. Chris is waiting around a blind curve in the hospital's corridor. He takes a chunk out of Five's shoulder before he gets a bullet to the brain.]

[That was a day ago. Five's too weak to make it back to Abel Township in one piece. And even if he did, he knows the rules. They'd kill him to save themselves. He coughs weakly and rechecks his ammunition. Two round left. One for himself.]

[But he feels weaker. Sicker. And the symptoms he's suffering aren't like the Gray Flu. This is something worse.]

[The fact that it had started in Gotham hadn't surprised anyone, not really. The fact that it hadn't been able to be contained had surprised more people - even, on some level, Batman. He planned for the worst, but until it had truly started to spread, he hadn't quite been able to make himself believe that this wouldn't be something else he could find a way to beat, with all his knowledge and all his resources.

All the same, it was good that he had planned.

Right now, it was looking like he might not have planned well enough. But, well, at least he had armor.]

[Just because she'd never technically gotten her drivers license (in any dimension) didn't mean she couldn't drive. Still, both she and anyone else riding with her who wanted to chose life while crossing the more debris strewn bits of the remaining highway- who knew jerking a wheel with super strength could crash a car that fast- agreed she was far better at shot gun than behind the wheel. Even after the end of the world, spider-sense counted for something when zombies could appear over the next hill at any moment.

It was just really too bad they'd already listened to this CD six times today. She'd have sold her last pair of shoes for a working radio station.]

River checked her gun and her pockets. Fifteen bullets. There were fifteen bullets left and the Doctor wasn't here and she was going to die. And then she saw a man. He wasn't doing anything particular, but he was also very human and not one of the living dead...or not-so-living dead. There was also something very familiar about him. It tugged at the very core of her.

Without thinking of the danger, she grabbed her gun and started running for him just as fast as she could. She needed to get him out of the immediate range of the zombies and then she would figure out just how deep in over her head she really was.

Shame she didn't have any way to call the Doctor.

Alex wasn't precisely sure when he lost his--focuser? Chest thing? Hank had given it some sciency name, but Alex hadn't been really paying attention.

Now he wished he'd been paying to everything Hank or Sean or the Professor had ever said, because--God, he'd had to smother Sean. Fucking stupid Sean who had smiled at him and said it was okay, he just didn't want to turn into one of them like Hank, he wanted to die human, and God, Sean--

If he thinks about them too much it's going to kill him, and Alex had to get to Alaska.

So far he's made it all the way to Buffalo, NY.

But he's not giving up on Gabriel. Not now, not ever. So while he's lost his chest plate this city is pretty much abandoned, so he loops plasma around himself as much as he needs to. That is, he was, until he saw the signs of recent human--living human--habitation at the foot of one of these buildings, and Alex doesn't want to kill anyone or burn down their shelter. So he's resorted to his crowbar, and that's...

...that's not going so hot.

"Fuck!"

He's knocked down by one of them, and as Alex struggles, shoving at its head while trying to keep his fingers out of its mouth, he realizes he's going to die here.
