[ Jesse holds no illusions over giving Genji back the life he had had before— one that had, very apparently, been gone for quite some time. Decades upon decades, if not actual centuries. Getting the details from him wasn't important in their odd little friendship but he remained curious all the same, and the story of the two dragons was almost completely forgotten. He had visited all the elders in each town he's swept through and only caught a few breadcrumbs. He felt like he was piecing together an entire damn bakery for all the good it did, but he had never been one to give up so easily. He wants to see a Genji that can eat at the campfire with him, and get drunk, and shiver when the nights get cold.
The gunslinger can't even imagine the memories going through Genji's mind at that moment, but he almost reckons there's a hint of nostalgia and hurt in the way the green light wavers in the visor, and Jesse knows he's lying the moment he answers. ]
Must think I'm one 'a them roosters that thinks the sun only rises to hear 'em crow. Well, far be it from me to rub your nose in it. Let's start straight above us. You see that bright one there? trace it down to the next; it's the turtle Teuthida. Usually over the horizon in Spring, he brings in the summer tides.
Lil further down to the left there's Sphenodon, the mountain range the turtle's gotta cross. See how the bigguns zig-zag? Two sister peaks kept apart by the brother Sphenos, the brightest star in the sky. That one'll lead you all the way to the ocean to the north.
Over here now, them five bright ones almost in the center of the sky? That's Halichoerus, the starfish. It's got eleven stars in it. That brighter leg leads us down to my favorite; Setonix, the mermaid. She's a beauty, an' she's always lead me right home. The moon's a pearl in her hands all summer long.
[ Jesse couldn't imagine this suit of armor cooped up all by his lonesome without anyone to talk to, no voices to hear but his own, so he makes no effort to keep quiet if Genji asks him something or another. He turns to look at his companion sprawled out there on the plains with him, blowing smoke up towards Halichoerus before metal fingers come to drum against his sternum. ]
