[Turns out starting a revolution and surviving an explosion that topples a train is a whole fucking lot easier than acclimating to civil living in London.

Nam was right, it wasn't cold everywhere. In fact, it wasn't cold much of anywhere anymore outside their train line. The world hadn't ended in ice, just got cold for a while, and then it was fine. Somehow they never got the news. Curtis and the other survivors started walking and didn't stop until they'd met dry, warm ground. Then there were people and they split up so they could blend in, though they didn't go far.

There was a whole ocean between him and New York, but Curtis wasn't the same guy that'd grown up there, so he didn't go back.

Found a job that didn't mind his lack of education and found a flat that he could afford. The first time he'd met Alex, he'd stared longer than what was probably polite, but he was still learning how to behave around people. Alex was clean. Neat. It wasn't something he was used to. Curtis had come back to that restaurant every day until he'd come in again. Now it was month's later and they were sleeping together, and it was actually just sleeping. For now.]

Your toes are cold.

[ So finding out that the "world" was actually just a pretty small speck in a painting more massive in scope than her mind could comprehend came with some perks as well as some downfalls. On the one hand there wasn't just one world outside of her tower to explore, but an entire galaxy, an entire universe! The idea was as daunting as it was thrilling. The downside? Not everything was sunshine and rainbows. Heck, most of it wasn't, depending on one's outlook. Thinking too much about it leaves her feeling uneasy, and now, at least for tonight she doesn't want to sleep alone.

There's a soft knock at the door of Shiro's quarters as Rapunzel stands on the other side, waiting to see if he was awake or not. Not knowing yet if he's a light sleeper or not she tries to be mindful not to wake him if he IS still dozing, but on the off chance he's still awake at this hour (assuming he'd even be IN his quarters if that were the case, and not training)...

It's a concentrated effort not to fidget as she waits, glancing down the dimly lit hallway where her hair is still trailing quite a ways off into the dark, like some sort of golden carpet. She's listening for footsteps, Shiro's or otherwise, not really feeling up to having to explain why she's roaming in the middle of the night knocking at people's doors. The only one she really feels comfortable confiding in (who can talk back to her) IS Shiro, at least at the moment. All of this is still pretty new and daunting, but he'd been a reassuring presence from day one. ]

There were relationships where neither person would be able to define what exactly was going on. Such was the relationship between Dutch and Steve. Yes, they were very good friends. They were able to rib each other playfully, rely on each other for everything friends do, but now and then Dutch would find herself staring a little too long at Steve. She was certain that she felt something a little more than friendship for Steve, but was absolutely uncertain if he felt anything close to that for her and so she never said anything on the topic to him. It was just safer that way. Best to preserve their friendship than to risk everything for something that was only a possibility.

When particularly loud construction started just outside of Dutch’s Red Hook apartment at most hours of the day, Steve had been nice enough to offer up his couch for a week. Dutch packed up her toothbrush and pajamas and temporarily moved in with Steve, her savior. The first night went smoothly with the two of them sleeping comfortably in separate rooms, but on the second night Dutch accidentally spilled her goodnight cup of tea on the couch cushions, saturating them with warm liquid. She couldn’t very well sleep there and it was late at night. Dutch was beat and Steve was already snoozing a room over.

Tip-toeing barefoot into his bedroom, Dutch peeled back his bedcovers and slipped into the bed next to him leaving a comfortable amount of space between the two of them. When she thought she felt him stir slightly she turned to face him and whispered. “Sorry. Spilled tea on the couch so it’s sort of wet. This is just for the night. Promise.” She flashed a big, albeit sleepy, smile at him and yawned.
