(CONTENT WARNING. This is a meme about death and may deal with suicide, depression, extreme violence, illnesses, etc.)

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die.


CAUSE OF DEATH

1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligence, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of.

2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!

3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.

4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.

5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.

6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country?

7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?

TIME LEFT

1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise.

2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)

3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.

4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them.

5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?

RELATIONSHIP

1 - Lovers. This is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, mistress, whatever you call them they were the person you wanted to spend your life with. Too bad you don't have much of a life to spend with them anymore.

2 - Siblings. Your beloved little or older sibling is just standing there, watching you slowly waste away before their eyes. Can you say anything to comfort them? Note that it doesn't necessarily have to be interpreted literally; adopted siblings and friends so close they might as well be siblings work too.

3 - Parent and child. Nothing is worse than a parent having to bury their child... except, maybe, a young child now alone in the world after losing their parent. As with the sibling prompt, this can be expanded to include parental figures and people who are LIKE a father/mother to you as well as actual biological parents.

4 - Co-workers, teammates or classmates. You were fighting for the same side. Or you worked together in the same office for years. Or they sat behind you in biology all semester. However you met, how do your react when you find out someone who used to be a fixture in your life is going to die?

5 - Friends. You're the best of friends! You go everywhere together, know all each other's secrets, and are never seen apart. At least, you didn't use to be. Now one of you is dying and the other one is left alone in the world. Or maybe you're dying together. Wait, is that better or worse?

6 - Bitter enemies. You hate, hate, HATE this person. In fact, maybe you killed them. Or they killed you. Or maybe nobody killed anybody and they're just bitter that Mother Nature got to you before they did. Regardless, they want to confront you one last time before you bite it, if only to rub your nose in your imminent demise and their ability to outlive you.

[ She would follow either way, except he did need to know one thing. ]

I don't expect you to make up for every little transgression. [ Loki carded a hand through her hair, mostly looking for something to fuss with. ] I'm not very tolerable to be around at the moment. Grief isn't a good look for me.

[ Her admitting as much is testament to how much changed over the years just from being away from Asgard. She might never get her power hungry nature out of her system, but she did learn how to cope a bit better. She also got used to admitting to her faults no matter how much it rankled her pride. ]

[ Yu paused at that, a somber expression on his face. He had to ask; it was something that was going to be hovering over his head, so it was best to get it out now. ]

[ She knew exactly how long it had been. She could even tell him when Fayt died, but Loki tries to keep her expression neutral. ]

Almost eight months.

[ So... not all that long ago, especially for a god. Yu's shoulders fell slightly, a soft expression coming to his face. ]

I'm sorry.

[shapesifs]

Now you know why I still had so many of your things by the time you had appeared at my doorstep.

[ She hadn't gotten around to packing anything of theirs. No, as backwards as her personality is, her coping mechanisms are equally so. She still doesn't even sleep in her own bed, not usually. She's always in the room just down the hall from hers--Yu's room.

Out of habit, her hand rose to tip his chin up. ]

I'm fine. Don't worry so much.

Yeah, I see.

[ Yu paused a moment, before letting out a soft breath, taking a step back. ]

Should I leave you be for awhile after this?

[chaostic]

I don't want you to leave. [ She says it immediately and with such conviction, as if he is some illusion that will dissipate, she even has to correct herself afterward. Loki straightened up a bit and quieted her tone. ]

I meant that I'll get used to being around you.

[ For a moment, Yu looked surprised by her strong response, before his expression calmed. ]

If you're sure. At the same time, I don't want to needlessly make you suffer more than you already have.

[chaostic]

Suffer?

[ She stopped walking, and came around in front of him, smiling. ]

I'm not suffering because you're alive and here and, [ She frowned. ] real enough for me to touch. [ He doesn't know much about her, or the extent of her powers so perhaps this is a good conversation to have now. Yu will never be able to tell how far into her own sadness she truly is, and she will never have to address it as long as he doesn't disappear as many have done in service to the Maeve. ]

I'm surprised by how you look like him, and smell like him, and smile just the same as he does. I'm caught off guard by you leading me about. [ She crosses her arms over her chest, but it's more like she's trying to comfort herself the way her hand comes up so she can bite on her fingernail. Loki got used to telling him the truth and it's hard to stop when she trusted another version of him so much. ] I'm jealous that as happy as you are now--I like to think I made it okay for him here. I like to think that Eros was a kind distraction because of what happened to his home world.

[ A shrug. ]

You are not making me suffer. [ She shrugged, looking down at the pavement. ] I think this is the happiest I've been since he died.

[ Yu was quiet at he listened to her, smiling softly, before folding his hands behind his back. ]

...from what you've told me, I think he was happy with you. At least... from my short time with you, I've been happy, so I imagine after so much time, he would have been as well.

[chaostic]

[ Every time he smiles just so she feels the impulse to kiss him. Instead she bites at her fingernail. He always has a way of talking to her that never made her feel put down for her own emotions. ]

You do not have to lie to me. [ As sweet as it is for him to say, that his other self was just as happy, she isn't so sure. ] But I am glad to know it hasn't been, I suppose, bad for you while you're at our house--my house. [ Well, lives there anyway. Most of the time. And it was his house once. ]

[ Oh Loki; Yu reached over, brushing his fingers against her cheek, before he gathered her hand in his, pulling it over so he could drop a kiss on the back of it. ]

Give yourself more credit.

[ That bond Yu's been struggling with when it pertains to Loki? He might have just won it for himself. He may not realize it but-- ]

You know I'm not actually a woman. Chivalry won't convince me, and it wouldn't even if I actually was one. [ She's joking of course, evidence by the way she smirks.

But then him having the potential to gain a Persona from her now also makes her a terrible liar. Loki doesn't let go of his hand, just gently tugs him along. ]

You wanted to get something to eat, so why don't we?

[ Yu had a bit of a mysterious smile on his face when he felt the familiar tingle of a bond formed, but he doesn't say anything. Instead, he allowed her to tug him along, following after her dutifully. ]

I've been meaning to ask about that... about your gender. Aren't you technically both if you can change on a whim?

[chaostic]

[ It's only appropriate, right? She hadn't realized when, exactly, she had fallen in love with him last time. It only makes sense she falls in love with him first instead of the other way around. Bonds are strange things. ]

The plaza splits off from the Academy campus into where more civilians mix in with those attending to the school. Right now, there isn't much traffic but there must be a class going on. Loki is only momentarily distracted by the intricate clockwork design of the buildings before she has to entertain his question. ]

Technically I can, [ A flash of green. While this time she happens to use her power of illusion, it is the same principle. ] masquerade as you as well. [ Right down to his voice, even. The illusion fades as quickly as it was cast. ] But I suppose you could say I have both genders. It's never mattered to me much one way or the other.

[ Yu stopped when Loki turned into him, and for a moment he looked worried. But then Loki was back to herself, and he let out a sheepish noise, scratching at the side of his face. ]

...even though I knew it was you, seeing someone else as myself is unsettling.

[ Ways Loki can play pranks on Yu: change into him and add yellow eyes. ]

But I understand.

[chaostic]

I'm not going to steal your identity. [ She smiled slightly, chuckling. ]

I promise.

I hope not. My Shadow is bad enough to deal with, I don't need someone shadowing me.

[ ...yes, that was an attempt at a pun. The sheepish expression on his face just screams that he knows it was fucking awful. ]

[chaostic]

[ Was that a flash of yellow in her eyes? It's hard to say but Loki still has a knowing smile as she rounds the corner and leads them into a quaint coffee shop. ]

What's the fun in having only one mask to wear?

[ She picks a table near the windows. ]

[ ...something tells him that Loki unmasked would be terrifying, and he was afraid to say as much. He paused, before shaking his head, a weak little smile coming to his face. ]

I'll take your word on that.

[ He pulled a chair out for her first, ever the gentlemen. ]

[chaostic]

[ Not as terrifying as he thinks. Some wear masks to hide their inner demons, but Loki is far simpler. She has the personality she does to protect the very fragile core she had been given. She wanted the glory of a king but had the sensitivity of china tea cup, easy to shatter but incredibly clever in picking up on emotion and strategy. ]

Still not female. [ She resisted a laugh and just let herself snicker as she sunk down into the chair offered for her. ] Who knew you had manners. [ She's teasing. . .mostly. ]

That doesn't keep me from being a gentlemen.

[ He offered her a bit of a casual smirk, before sliding into his own seat. It was very clear in his expression too: he was going to make a point of providing Loki a chair even when he was male, just to tease him with kindness. ]

I have plenty of manners.

[chaostic]

Indeed. [ Though she should keep her comments to herself. No, no it most certainly isn't attractive at all that he tries. Don't even dream of it. ]

Is that what you tell all the pretty girls who darken your doorstep? [ Loki leans forward on the table, wearing a serpentine smile. ] It's no wonder people pine after you. [ She breaks her act for just a moment. She even looks cheerful, if he can imagine, for a fleeting second. ] You're both charming, confident or otherwise.

[ Yu raised an eyebrow at that, before he rested his chin in his hand. ]

Like you pine for me?

[ His tone is light and teasing, but there's a bit of an intensity in his eyes that clearly says he doesn't mind the attention one bit. ]

[chaostic]

[ Loki leans back in her chair, cavalier: ]

Is that what you think I'm doing? [ There may be the slightest bit of tenderness in her gaze for him, but she hasn't notice it slipping. She hasn't noticed how easy it is to cave to her old habits of flirting with him either. ] Should I add egotistical to the list as well?
