the train to the afterlife meme

maybe you know how, maybe you don't. perhaps the memory is fuzzy, or perhaps it's crystal clear down to the look in your comrades' eyes. maybe it was your time; you've done all you wanted to. or maybe you weren't at all ready to go, maybe you went out kicking and screaming -- but none of it matters. you know you're dead, and the train is taking you to an afterlife. perhaps an afterlife of your choice; you might've earned that heaven. or perhaps you've earned something else entirely.

it'll be a bit of a journey, though, so you might as well take your time and talk to the other people in your coach. death knows no place: most of them are strangers, even from faraway worlds. but death knows no time either, so who knows, some of them may be people you know, even if last you knew, they were alive -- or long gone.

[ Caboose really likes trains. Well, he likes most modes of transportation, truth be told. Most of the time it seemed to involve screaming and crashing and a lot of chaos in getting from point a to point b, but that hasn't stopped him from just enjoying the ride.

He's a little confused as to how they got from being on the Pelican to being on the bigger, meaner ship that belonged to the scary bald man to being on a train, but they're not being shot at any more. That's good, right? That must mean they won and are going back to Chorus.

Except that he's alone. That part's not so great. Obviously, the plan is to wander from car to car and see where everyone's gotten to. Maybe it's hide and seek! Church always liked playing that game. He must have gotten everyone else to join in.

That had happened, right? It had seemed real. So did this place. Though it was unlike any station she had ever seen and she had traveled a bit as a champion.

A few swigs from the silver flask he kept in his trenchcoat brought a warmth to his (what he could assume was) dead body. Soon enough, Chas, Zatanna, Zed, Strange or someone would find out in time to drag him back. If not, he'd deal with the powers that be when he got to where he was going.

Probably Hell. Most likely Hell. Wouldn't be his first time there either. Best he could hope was that the First of the Fallen wasn't still in charge. Maybe Lucifer had come back. While he'd never met Lucifer himself, he seemed a little more sane than the First of the Fallen.

At least he had cigarettes. Lighting one, John drew in the smoke and blew it out in a long sigh.

"Not a dream then. My dreams usually have strippers on the subway poles instead of ratty looking thieves," he said to himself. "Don't want to see that one in a thong. Ever."
