Calming Presence

You're about to go off the rails. No, no "about," actually. You've left that train track fair behind, and you're crazy. Rage fills every inch of you, and there's no doubt you're about to do something dangerous, stupid, or reckless. Or all three. There's only one person who can calm you down: your partner. Now, they're using closeness, reassurance, or physical intimacy to remind you what really matters, which is the two of you. Surely, this will bring you back, letting the anger ebb out and you'll be able to think straight again, even if your lover was the actual cause of all this mess. Won't it? Surely you won't direct your wrath towards them, no matter what. Nothing was going right. Nothing was going as it was supposed to. It was meant to be a fairly simple set of coding, the same string of commands that Darlene had run a thousand times over and could have normally done with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back, but this time it had backfired on her.

Or maybe this time Cisco had finally caught on to exactly what she had been up to all along.

She'd been trying to steal his credentials again. Trying to gain access to a channel that she had no business in even being in to begin with, trying to talk to people that she should have ever tried to. It was all for a good cause, to further the plans of Fsociety and to squeeze information out of The Dark Army connects that Cisco had. She just hadn't expected him to be running the kind of backdoor software that he had -- he usually wasn't that smart.

She'd been detected only a short time after she'd executed the command on the terminal, the entire system freezing, her identity compromised in the IRC window that she'd been chatting in, flashing that there had been an intruder, a breach, and the entire system beeping loudly until she unplugged the damn thing from the wall, booking it across the city all the way to Elliot's apartment, practically a mess on the train ride there and even more of a panic stricken one as she banged on her brother's door for him to open up.

"C'monC'monC'mon." Darlene mumbled sotly, checking over her shoulder time after time, worried that Cisco, or some random suited men would pop up behind her and she'd never be heard from again. The Dark Army didn't exactly take kindly to anyone who came snooping around where they didn't belong. "Elliot! Open the fucking door!" She called through to the other side, a shaky hand running through her hair.

[ Cleaning up New York was turning out to be an ordeal and a half. Stark Tower was had been trashed during Loki's invasion, but it was nothing compared to the havoc that he unleashed on the rest of Manhattan. Using the Maria Stark Foundation, Tony made sure people got the help they needed, but it was a lot of ground to cover and, no matter how much money Tony threw at the problem at hand, it didn't seem to make the clean up process in the city go any faster.

Which seemed to annoy one General Ross, who seemed to be very vocal about what the Avengers had done. His criticism of how the Avengers had handled the situation and then the destruction they left behind was something that he was more than happy to talk about with the press. At first Tony hadn't noticed what was playing in the background, because the television was like white noise as he and Bruce put his lab back together, but then he noticed how Bruce seemed to go still. And...he just wasn't moving. ]

The voice that spoke from over his shoulder was rough and seemed uncultured. Generations of gutter Liverpool people had probably shouted at their children and each other in the same harsh tones. The accent was a far cry from the upper-class English one often heard in movies.

"Easy, mate. Fire doesn't solve much, least not out here. Best that'll do is burn my place down. Maybe you should have a drink instead. Or help me find that damned hamster ball I lost."

The man standing behind Diablo wasn't impressive at all. He didn't exude power or seem intimidating. If anything, Constantine looked like an out of place tourist as he lifted a plant leaf and looked under it. Then those eyes slid back to Diablo. They were distant but knowing, thoughtful but not cold.

"It's sort of rainbowed if you see it. Probably looks empty. Try not to scare it with those flames of yours."

A cigarette was between his lips, an inhalation taken before blowing back out in a stream of smoke.

"John Constantine. You are?"

Because all of this was completely normal, right?
