The mission had gone south very quickly. Charles and another agent had been caught and tortured. Charles came throug the experience alive but not Agent Bors. The poor man got his throat slit and Charles was forced to watch him bleed out. The kids came and got him--Agents Mordred and Lancelot, their newest, who had seen more field experience in their first two years than most agents saw in twice the time.

Charles used his years of experience of evading their questions and their looks. Torturing could do so little to a numbed spirit.

Once back in London, the first thing he did was text Malcolm that he was alive and going back home. His relations with the quartermaster were still between them. Charles needed no one to question his interest in the MI-6's Q. He was rather fond of his secret.

He arrived home at the time he had told Malcolm to expect him. His suit was rumpled, his left arm was in a sling and he had mirrored sunglasses over his eyes. He had not given Malcolm any warning of what he had indured.
