Welcome to My World!

It's a whole new world!  And how lucky, you've got a friend(?) who has the responsibility of helping you live through it.  Are you a Super Saiyan getting used to the idea of demons in feudal Japan?  Or maybe you're an angel who's making friends with a pretty sweet alien.  Maybe you just come from an alternate version of earth and need a local to help you overcome culture shock.  Thank goodness you're not alone!

Here's how it works:
1. Leave a post. You will be the guide to any new arrivals to your world!
2. Comment to posts. You are stuck in the world belonging to the person you've tagged. (i.e., if you tag Naruto, you'll be in his world with him as your guide)
3. SHENANIGANS.  Thread out any scenario! Maybe various scenarios!  Write an epilogue when you're done or something. Use this meme to launch a million AUs for the musebox.  DO WHATEVER YOU LIKE.

Nah, just kidding. She laughs that awkward, too-loud laugh again.]

No one would expect me on time anyway.

[funny. None of his friends ever expect him to be on time either.

Tifa's been drilling him on this though and so it actually occurs to him to say:]

[She's got the wrist communicator, but otherwise she needs a phone booth. Which... seem to be in short supply along this road. Eh. Go with it.]

It'll be fine. I'll explain later! I can't just leave you if you're lost!

[he doesn't want to make her miss meeting her friends but he IS lost apparently and he's got a pretty good track record with helpful strangers (even if some of them have in the past been a bit TOO helpful). So there's a chin dip of a nod and a soft sound.]

[looking around he has to ask:]

Are there other Districts that have monster problems?

[She's quieter when she answers.]

That seems to be a problem right in this area most of all.

[the logical question for him is:]

You've got a mako rector in the area?

[buntails]

[Going way over her head there, Cloud.]

A what? [Reactor... nuclear?]

[findmyownreason]

[he's going to take that as a 'no'. A look around at the busy city and he asks:]

You don't use mako energy anymore. But you did before Meteor right? Big city, monsters, I just though a mako reactor made sense.

We use electricity. [Yeeeah. She might not be the best one to ask about things.]

What's mako? [She really has a feeling he doesn't mean Makoto.]

[oh.

yeah.

he's lost all right.

Because everyone on the Planet knows what mako is and if they don't, it's not because they live in a huge city that would have used its power up until recently. Still, he's not panicked. He's had a lot of strange things that don't make sense dropped into his lap and he's gotten good at kind of rolling with it until they do start to make sense.

Sometimes he rolls with it too well in fact.

Besides, maybe he just needs to wake up.]

Mako energy. The Shinra Electric Power Company used to use their rectors to pull the life essence of the Planet out and convert it to power.

[buntails]

[She's starting to wonder if he hit his head. Not in the teasing way one of her friends might say it when she has a ditz moment, but because... this is really kind of frightening that he's making no sense!

And then he gets even scarier. Pull the life out of the planet? It sounds like some Dark Kingdom energy plot.]

But wouldn't that hurt it?

Yeah. It did. We're healing now though.

[a glance down at her as they walk.]

I'm a lot more lost than you thought I was, aren't I?

[buntails]

Why did they do it? [The question, on her lips, isn't an accusation; it's a need to know and understand, because surely they must have had a reason. She doesn't, yet, answer Cloud.]

[why? It's a good question. And the answer's simple the way he guesses answers like that always are.]

We needed the energy. Mako burned cleaner than coal and powered more too. It was easier and cheaper and stronger. [they'd been burning life itself. How could it NOT be stronger?] And most people didn't realize what it was costing us. Not until it was almost too late.

[buntails]

[Of course. It had to be a mistake like that. But even if that's reassuring, it doesn't solve the problem, either.]

There must be some other way, some other power you could use.

[findmyownreason]

[it's touching that she cares about a world that's obviously not her own and his lips shift upward just a little at her insistence for hope.]

We're working on it. It's slow but it's important. Oil and electric. Cosmo Canyon is helping install wind turbines. Mako energy is over.

[which makes him wonder - ]

What do you use for energy here?

[buntails]

Electricity. [She says it with such a simple blankness that this must be a fundamental given in her world.] Nuclear power, too.

[Though she supposes they never fully understood how the poison black crystal reactor worked... It also isn't a widespread energy source.]

[he understands electricity. They use that as well. Nuclear power he's never heard of though. If he had the basics though, he could tell Reeve and maybe those scientists of his could use it as a basis to invent it themselves. It's worth a short even if Cloud knows he's no genius when it comes to science.]

What's nuclear power?

[buntails]

[Unfortunately, Cloud is asking the most wrong person possible, if he wants a clear and concise explanation.]

What is it? [She buys herself a second to think.] It comes from different kinds of power plants. It can be dangerous sometimes, but there are a lot of safety precautions they use.

[findmyownreason]

Mm.

[seems like there are a lot of things in the world that are helpful and dangerous at the same time and that doesn't seem to change between wherever he's from and where he is now. With a slight shake of his head, he'll let it go. Besides, his stomach is starting to warn him.]

Is there a place we could get something to eat on the way to the train station? It must be about lunch time in my world.

[Ping! Those are definitely the magic words, and Usagi nods eagerly.]

We can! There are plenty of restaurants right near here! What sort of food do you like?
