Pidge is at home in the confines of the castle or the lion, but there's nothing like fresh air. There's something about the cool breeze blowing across the water that reminds her of equally cool nights atop the Garrison main hall, hyperfocused and listening.
Things sure were simpler before Shiro came crashing back to Earth. They're lucky this planet has a breatheable atmosphere.] We just saved this planet; we might as well spend some quality time on it, right?

Just for a little while.
( the cool breeze is nice, and it is beautiful. sometimes, shiro fears that he's pushing them all too hard — himself, too, but he's less worried about himself than he is about them — and that there is never enough time to marvel at the planets they see and free, the fact that there's so much alien life out here and they get to experience it. )

My lion's crunched a few geological numbers. The water should be good for a dip. I bet if we asked Allura really nicely, she might let us have a picnic. [She grins her lopsided, boyish grin.] Hunk could throw together some lunch. Or dinner. Or...whichever meal's coming up next.
[She doesn't expect it. But it's a thought that crossed her mind, and sometimes she just blurts them out. It's more to keep putting Shiro at ease, both of them at ease. Keep drawing him back to reality. Out of his head. She doesn't imagine it's a pleasant place to be, sometimes. Always too much to do, never enough time to do all the goofing off the teenagers want to do. Still, it's a nice thought.]

they probably won't get the chance, but he thinks he'd like to see it. he'd like for them to have that, too, a moment of normalcy in between all the fighting. his smile grows a little. ) I think we should. Ask her.
( at least: ) If you're sure that it's safe. ( but it's pidge. if she says her lion crunched geological numbers, she's probably done a full analysis of everything. )

Guardian Spirit of Forest who? She's about to move on to something else, but then he gives his go-ahead. Pidge blinks her surprise, then grins again.] Really? [It's tempting to add something like, 'are you sure you don't want to limp back to the castle for immediate repairs', or ' you don't think it's kind of silly and childish', because if something like that comes out, then he might change his mind. Sometimes it's easy to forget that Shiro likes to relax, too. It's the pressure of command (and Allura and Coran pushing them) that has them training so hard. To be prepared for fights like this one, where they can work together so well.
She sets down her helmet and tugs him lightly by the hand.] Five minutes to enjoy the quiet while it lasts. [Because god knows with the addition of three teenage boys, the peace won't last long. She doesn't wait for him, fingers slipping away so she can run up to the water's edge, boots splashing just a few inches in. Kneels, takes a breath, dunks her whole head into the shallows before pulling back out.
It's cold, but a refreshing kind. To rinse away the drying remains of gut-clenching fear of battle from her face, run through her hair, and through the system shock, for just a moment, the world seems a little brighter, keener, sharper.]
