Defrosting
![]() On occasion, the fun in playing a romantic relationship is not actually playing the relationship proper, but the build up. The characters grow closer, frozen hearts can thaw, emotional barriers may fall, and insight is gained, both about self and potential partners... ...plus, it can be entertaining as all heck to play either a. awkward dancing around the subject, if your character is that type, or b. embracing all that warming up. A little of column A, a little of column B may scratch an itch you never knew you had. Play one little vignette in time. You may find yourself craving some more.

He waits about ten seconds. Which is essentially about enough time for her to have immediately stopped what she was doing to come over to him and since she didn't do that, he's going to start calling to her again.
"Rey. Come on. Stop acting like you don't hear me."

However, when he calls out again, she sighs, stores her snack away, and heads out into the ship, wondering just what's so important that she's got to cut her free time short. "I hear you -", she calls back, pausing to mutter under her breath, "I could hear you if I was still back on Jakku."

It's been good to have Rey on for that much alone, but that's not all. She's kind of ... good at everything she does really. Piloting. Repair work. The Force is undeniably with her. And she can swing a mean stick. She doesn't quite have his people skills, but then again, who does?
"What was that?" Is she being glib with the Captain? He really should be sterner. Probably.
Anyway, lucky for her he's not really focused on any backtalk he may or may not be getting. She'll find him leaning up against the holochess board with something leather in his hands. It's helpful that she's close enough now that he doesn't have to yell, but his tone is actually kind of gentler than normal. Maybe even nice? Nice for him anyway.
"I got something for you. I want you to try it on." And he presents a holster to go with that NN-14 he gave her a few weeks back. "I can't stand seeing you tucking that blaster in your belt anymore."

She's taken to it with an enthusiasm that's taken her by surprise, especially after her assertion that she couldn't leave the only home she's ever really know. But here she was and she didn't have any intention of calling an end to it anytime soon. There was never really a dull moment and she kind of loves that. Action. Adventure. Not bad for a day's work!
If she wasn't skilled, Han never would have offered her the chance to tag along, and although he's never really expressly said as much, she thinks she's probably more than earned his grudging respect. Even when she's somewhat sarcastic with him.
Although she was skeptical of why he was bellowing for her, her eyes light up when she catches sight of the holster, shiny and pretty and hers. "You really shouldn't have - I mean, how am I supposed to repay you for this?"
Even as she asks, she's examining it closely, the smile on her lips as clear a hint as any that she's touched by the gesture. "Thank you."

I'm fine if you want her to catch the glance or not. Also notifs seem to be back.

PRE-DESPAIRRRRRR gotta get this in before it's all Jossed tomorrow rite
Seriously. Or not seriously, actually, because that is the problem—she's so serious all the time! It's got to be bad for her health. That's right, the incredibly athletic and physically talented Peko is going to just keel over and die someday from a heart attack, probably before the age of 30, because she couldn't lighten up. That sounds like a legit reason to be concerned, right?
It's not quite Leon's reason for "concern," though. The truth is . . . he just really wants to see what she looks like when she smiles.
It's started bothering him. She's so damn hot. Anyone could agree on that one. Sure, at first glance, she's got a kind of nerdy aesthetic; the braids and glasses look had reminded Leon at first of Fukawa from his own class, who doesn't wear it nearly as well, in his expert opinion. But she's more than glasses and braids. That body. He'd noticed that second, of course. He's done a lot of noticing it since he met her. But it's not just that . . .
Behind those glasses and that stony expression, she's got a pretty face, too. Leon's not good at describing faces. You can't say someone's got a bangin' face the way you can about their tits. Everything that actually comes to mind sounds either nerdy or like he's trying to write some shitty song lyrics about it. Symmetrical? True, but who says that?
And the thing is, he can't even say she has a stunning smile, because he's never seen it!
Something must be done. All that energy he should probably be throwing into baseball or studying needs somewhere to go, and right now, this is where it's directed. It has to be possible, right? She must like . . . things. Stuff. That Leon could potentially provide!
There's only one way to find out: he tracks her down after classes one day, during a moment when she's alone, speeding up to fall into step next to her. He doesn't really have an excuse worked out for this. Just wing it and go, that's how he operates. His expression is all bright and grinning because some of us have no problem doing that!]
Yooooo! Pekoyama!
IF IT'S STARTED BEFORE THE JOSSING IT'S FINE IT STILL COUNTS
She doesn't step out of the way, but she does glance sideways, fully expecting the person with the rapid footsteps to be in a hurry to get somewhere past her. So when Leon falls into step with her, she pauses, red eyes flicking over his face.]
Kuwata, [she offers by way of greeting, taking his measure and then dismissing him as a threat in that one glance. Even if they weren't in the same class, SHSL athletes tended to get to know one another whether they wanted to or not, so he's not unfamiliar.]
Can I help you with something?

[It'd be a great opportunity to set up some kind of tutoring situation, wouldn't it? The kind of tutoring Leon fantasizes about, anyway, which doesn't involve any actual studying. Help me with my math! Except he doesn't actually know if she's any good at math, whoops.
It's true that the athlete crowd gets plenty of exposure to each other through their circumstances, but in an academic context, he doesn't know shit about her. Maybe her grades are terrible. She wears glasses, so probably they're not, but he can't risk it.
And swordplay? That's cool and all, but he's not interested in pursuing it himself. It's a completely different kind of badass than the kind he aspires to be.
So he's left with the truth, as he so often is, because coming up with lies is hard and why bother? At least he's honest. It might not get him far with this, but he's got to try!]
You could help me have some company this afternoon! Unless you're busy. But, y'know, I've got all kinds of afternoons. I've got an afternoon every day!
[He grins over at her, keeping pace as they walk. Where are they going? He can worry about that later.]
