On the contrary! This was a huge moment, and despite Rey's nervousness and apprehension at the thought of being a mother, she does soften at the sight of the size of Poe's grin. He was so excited, it was hard to keep from feeling the same.
While she'd love nothing more than crawling back into bed and hiding away under the covers for, oh, the rest of the morning, it probably was best to see the doctor, find out once and for all what was happening, and ... well, celebrate if the news was good. She might have to force herself up and out of bed, but once she does, it was an easy enough task to get dressed, and even to take a few placating bites of the apple for Poe's sake.

"Maybe. I hope so. I really hope so, just imagine it." he can see a tiny little baby in their room, sleeping in their carrier next to the bed. He'd wake up with them so Rey could sleep, he'd show them off to the whole base, he'd have their picture in Black One's cockpit.
The doctor returned and pulled the privacy curtain. She had a stone-looked face as she approached them but once in private she smiled.
"Good news. Congratulations." Poe guffawed a moment, eyed wide.
"Really?" he covered his mouth, then his heart, then both of Rey's shoulders, his eyes got misty. It as as if he were the expectant mother.
"Practice makes perfect!", she laughed, and it was hardly a complaint in the slightest! She'd never felt as wanted, or as needed, or as desirable as she did when he got that shine in his eyes, or found any little moment possible in which to remind her. Rey was absolutely the luckiest woman in the world.
Boy or girl, this baby would have Poe wrapped around their little finger in a heartbeat. And Rey can just imagine many late nights where they'll both marvel at the tiny miracle they've created together. "You love them already, don't you?"
The doctor arrived, and Rey tore her eyes away from Poe long enough to catch the smile, and - okay, yes, this was real, and it was really happening, and they're having a baby. There's a tiny human growing within her, and it's - it's totally, completely overwhelming.
Still, though, she managed a softly surprised huff of breath, and shook her head slightly, and rested one hand against her stomach - a baby.

"Shock is normal, go get some rest, eat what you can keep down. We'll talk about diet and exercise next time. Here, take this book with you, it'll get you started. So far, looks like you're about five weeks along, be careful, kids. Congratulations." she made her exit and Poe was still hugging Rey.
"Oh my god... oh my god. It's..." he wiped his eyes. "I'm so happy... you ok?" she's not grinning. Or doing anything.
It wasn't as though she wasn't thrilled! There were just a lot of emotions and thoughts and some worries all at once to contend with! Given a little bit of time to acclimate, she'd loosen, relax, settle into the joy that came along with finding out they're going to be parents.
"O - of course. Thank you, doctor", she managed, and then, just as quickly as she'd arrived, the doctor took her leave, and they were alone again.
She hadn't meant to worry Poe! And so, she lifted a hand, set her fingers lightly against his jaw, and leaned in close for a soft, sweet kiss, nodding slightly. "I'm ... great. Really, I'm happy! I guess I just didn't think - I thought it would take longer ... "
Rey sighed, certain that she's only just marring the moment even further. "I am happy, happier than I ever thought I had a right to be. It's just a lot, you know?"
That kiss was divine. He sank into it and hugged her tight. He was so thrilled, hopefully she could pick up some of that. The doctor was gone, they could go back home and celebrate. In a number of ways.

"You're going to be an amazing father, Poe, this baby couldn't be any luckier. And I am just as lucky that you're mine. Let's make our escape and we can talk about it more. Or... do other things. "
He grinned and took her hand, leading her the way home. "Maybe we can talk about it and do other things." and of course he would be there for her, of course she'd need him. He was her baby daddy after all! Her soul mate! The only man could cook chocolate chip pancakes on the little hot plate they had in their quarters. He was a mad genius.
"Aww shucks. I think you're gonna be an amazing mother, Rey. We'll be alright." as soon as they are back in their room he pulls her in close and kisses her neck. "I love you so much. And not just because you're having my baby." he's so excited to say that too.
It was a much easier, lighter walk home than it had been to medbay. Amused, she squeezed his fingers gently, nodding her agreement to the suggestion. "I don't see why not - I mean, I do still have to eat something", she teased, more than aware that that was not exactly what 'other things' meant.
Poe was her everything, and Rey could only hope that she's been able to adequately express just how much she loved him, and needed him, and appreciated him for everything that he was, and everything that he did for her, and her excitement when it came to beginning this new stage in their lives.
"I know ", she answered, breathing out a surprised huff of breath as she's suddenly pulled closer and kissed in a very sensitive area, unable to keep from shivering even as she wrapped her arms around his middle to keep him just as close." I love you, too. Madly, and forever. And I love that we're going to be a family now. "
He kissed her a few times until she cries for mercy or giggles. Then he scooped her up and carried her back to the bed. "Oh eating? You think I'm gonna feed you? He's spooning her, hands reaching around her to lace with her fingers. He's high on the news.

There will be no crying out for mercy - however, she will absolutely giggle against his lips, and hold on for dear life once he lifted her into his arms, even though she knew that he'd never drop her. She sighed, nodding. It was an exciting time, for sure, but for a little bit, maybe it was best to keep it to themselves. "An extended celebration period, huh? I think I could get behind that idea."
Well she can hold on just as tight as she likes. He won't drop her as best he can. He could technically faint or something and drop her. Don't hate him if that comes to pass.
He started to tickle her ribs. "Well I can't undercook it now. I want to make sure it's really really done. So maybe just a little burnt?" he was plenty good enough at cooking. He could even get fancy and make fruit flavored items, like french toast.
"Yeah. Just for us... I don't know how long I can keep quiet about it." he paused "Rey.. Rey we're having a baby !"
He never had before - she trusted that he wouldn't now, either. Especially not now that they've got a precious bundle aboard. Maybe she just used being held as an excuse to keep him as close as possible! Not that she needed an excuse, and not that he minded in the moments that she craved his contact.
Rey giggled, half-heartedly making an attempt to escape from Poe's questing fingers, shaking her head in mock disappointment. "Then I suppose I'm going to have to eat every bite, aren't I? And tell you it's the most delicious breakfast I've ever had?" Truly, though, he was a whiz in what passed for a kitchen in their quarters, so that wasn't as much as a joke as it could have been.
"You ... are gonna go around telling everyone sooner rather than later", she answered, grinning. "I know, and I almost can't wait to meet them. Do you think it'll be a boy or a girl? And who are they gonna look like more? And what are we gonna name them?"

"I... might. I can't help it, hon. It's just too exciting. I can't put it past Temmin and Jess not to just figure it out. Temmin has kids, he'll pick it out of me easy." then he thought.
"Oh geez. I have no idea. I'm fine with a boy or a girl. I'd be thrilled. I... kinda like my hair." he brushed it back. "And your eyes and your face and your toothy smile.... and your accent. And.... my charm of course." he chuckled.
There will never come a day in which Rey would not want Poe's attentions and affections. Even when they first met, and were still figuring out what being soulmates meant, she constantly found herself in his orbit. If anything, that need has only grown since then.
"Alright, alright", she replied, nodding to the best of her ability. "Promise I'll always be honest with you." It is wonderful thought, though, breakfasts with baby, and finding ways to make them laugh, and just ... being a family. She was ... absolutely warming to the thought.
She sighed, curling up all the closer, more than amused. "I'm not going to be upset if you tell them, just so you know. I think ... maybe this news is worth a little celebration. And if they're gonna figure it out just by looking at you, maybe we shouldn't try to keep it to ourselves."
"I like your hair, too", she murmured, slightly disappointed that from this position, she couldn't reach out to playfully tug at his curls. "But I like your eyes, and your smile and everything about you, too. I'll be happy just as long as they're healthy, I think."
He's glad for that, he needs her too, so much. An embarrassing amount, sometimes. He blamed it all on being soul mates but any day he didn't get to see her he was honestly depressed.
"Oh good, I don't have to guess what's the truth anymore." he held her tight and kissed the back of her neck. He already felt like family with her but to have a baby in his mind... it was spectacular. It made him all the more motivated to fight the First Order. He wants them gone so his baby can grow up in a peaceful world.
"Well let's just see how it goes. We can try to hide it and then if they figure it out... well they just do. We can have an official celebration with them." He kind of wanted her to play with his hair too. He loved that, it melted him into a relaxed and euphoric mess.
"I know I'm beautiful, love, you don't have to flatter me." he chuckled. "But yes, healthy is what we want. Gender or looks be damned, I don't care."
Rey needed Poe as much as she needed air to breathe, and food to eat, and water to drink. Life didn't feel quite the same when they weren't in close proximity to each other. And maybe that wasn't conducive to away missions, but as long as she felt his emotions, she was reassured that everything would be well.
Her half-offended laughter shifted into a soft, pleased noise as he kissed her, lulling her into relaxation all the further. He was her love, certainly, her forever family, but the addition of the child really just made things ... complete, didn't it?
(Truthfully, the thought of bringing a child into the world only motivated her all the further to want to tear down the First Order once and for all. Of course, once the General caught wind of the new arrival, Rey'd probably be grounded, but the feeling would remain, all the same.)
"I don't know about you, but I don't think I'm going to be able to hide it for very long! Soon, I'm gonna be so big - are you going to love me when I can't see my feet anymore?"
She'd turn, card her fingers through his hair, give him as many kisses as he could stand, but honestly, she's comfortable right where she was. He couldn't see from his vantage point, but she rolled her eyes at that, however fondly. He was that, definitely, her handsome Poe. "What will we name them?"
He was endlessly grateful she could feel him. He wished he could feel her too but it made her more at ease to sense him and that was more important. If at least Rey was alright and had the things she wanted, he'd be okay.
And of course a baby made it complete! They were the main bond that children branched off of but having said children was so exciting. It gave Poe hope that things would work out, life continued even in madness such as this. Sure, Rey was going to be off duty for most of the pregnancy but that just made Poe happier. Sure it was less stress but he'd have more time with Rey! She couldn't train to be a Jedi when she was that far along, right?
"Well let them figure it out. And you already know the answer to that one." he loves her in all her forms. Her cute little cheek pinching wide eyed forms.
"Hmm... dunno. Too early to say." he went silent for a little while, rubbing his hands over her belly. When he speaks again his voice is soft and vulnerable. "If it's a girl can we name her Shara?"
Maybe he would. Maybe it had less to do with the Force and more to do with their soulbond and the strength of it than anything else. Maybe she just needed to feel something so thoroughly that he couldn't help feeling it, too - of course, if that were the case, wouldn't he have felt her by now? Certainly the love she felt for him was deep enough ...
Not that there weren't reasons to fight, but the thought of having a baby only strengthened her resolve to bring them into a world that was free of war and pain and and the kind of loss that no one should ever have to become used to feeling. And even if she was grounded, kept away from the thick of the action, she'd still do whatever she could to make that wish a reality.
Rey absolutely knew the answer - and it wasn't as though she was all that self-conscious, but ... every now and again, a girl just needed a little reassurance. And she was sure that sooner, rather than later, she was going to pop.
But if that meant more sweet little belly rubs like the one he was offering her now ... she wouldn't mind that in the slightest. But then he spoke again, and he sounded as unsure as she's ever heard him, and it made her heart break a little to hear it. "Yes. I think that would be wonderful tribute."
He doubts it's about love. It's about force sensitivity. At least he's convinced it is, since he has yet to feel Rey even when they are this close. No matter, it's not something he takes personally. It's a nice perk that she can feel him.
He held her tight, nuzzled her hairline as he smiled. "Thank you..." he kind of hopes it's a girl now. He wonders what his mother would say now, he knew she'd be so pleased. He wondered how she and Rey would get along. Surely his mother would love her since Rey loved him. Rey was so perfect... he had called his father up when he met Rey and he'd been so happy to hear Poe could see colors. Now he couldn't wait to tell him he was going to be a grandfather.
"And you know I think the sight of you with a big belly is just going to make you sexier."
They can agree to disagree - he's got his beliefs, and she's got hers, but in the end, it wasn't worth arguing over. As long as she could feel Poe, and be sure of his safety, the easier it is to relax, at least somewhat, in the moments that they're parted.
And now that she was pregnant, she was sure that those moments would occur more and more frequently. So she would absolutely appreciate any way that she could be sure that all was well with her soulmate, the love of her life, the father of her baby.
Rey wondered, too, what Poe's mother would have thought about her. Hopefully, she would have been able to see that what she felt was deep, and true, and everlasting, and gave her blessing to them. She'd already spoken to Poe's father, and found herself immediately taken with the elder Dameron. He'd be so excited to know that he was going to have a grand-baby, she just knew!
"You think? You're just ... not gonna be able to keep your hands off of me?", she asked, biting her bottom lip gently. Honestly, she had no problem with that whatsoever.

"I... might. I can't help it, hon. It's just too exciting. I can't put it past Temmin and Jess not to just figure it out. Temmin has kids, he'll pick it out of me easy." then he thought.
"Oh geez. I have no idea. I'm fine with a boy or a girl. I'd be thrilled. I... kinda like my hair." he brushed it back. "And your eyes and your face and your toothy smile.... and your accent. And.... my charm of course." he chuckled.

"Alright, alright", she replied, nodding to the best of her ability. "Promise I'll always be honest with you." It is wonderful thought, though, breakfasts with baby, and finding ways to make them laugh, and just ... being a family. She was ... absolutely warming to the thought.
She sighed, curling up all the closer, more than amused. "I'm not going to be upset if you tell them, just so you know. I think ... maybe this news is worth a little celebration. And if they're gonna figure it out just by looking at you, maybe we shouldn't try to keep it to ourselves."
"I like your hair, too", she murmured, slightly disappointed that from this position, she couldn't reach out to playfully tug at his curls. "But I like your eyes, and your smile and everything about you, too. I'll be happy just as long as they're healthy, I think."

"Oh good, I don't have to guess what's the truth anymore." he held her tight and kissed the back of her neck. He already felt like family with her but to have a baby in his mind... it was spectacular. It made him all the more motivated to fight the First Order. He wants them gone so his baby can grow up in a peaceful world.
"Well let's just see how it goes. We can try to hide it and then if they figure it out... well they just do. We can have an official celebration with them." He kind of wanted her to play with his hair too. He loved that, it melted him into a relaxed and euphoric mess.
"I know I'm beautiful, love, you don't have to flatter me." he chuckled. "But yes, healthy is what we want. Gender or looks be damned, I don't care."

Her half-offended laughter shifted into a soft, pleased noise as he kissed her, lulling her into relaxation all the further. He was her love, certainly, her forever family, but the addition of the child really just made things ... complete, didn't it?
(Truthfully, the thought of bringing a child into the world only motivated her all the further to want to tear down the First Order once and for all. Of course, once the General caught wind of the new arrival, Rey'd probably be grounded, but the feeling would remain, all the same.)
"I don't know about you, but I don't think I'm going to be able to hide it for very long! Soon, I'm gonna be so big - are you going to love me when I can't see my feet anymore?"
She'd turn, card her fingers through his hair, give him as many kisses as he could stand, but honestly, she's comfortable right where she was. He couldn't see from his vantage point, but she rolled her eyes at that, however fondly. He was that, definitely, her handsome Poe. "What will we name them?"

He was endlessly grateful she could feel him. He wished he could feel her too but it made her more at ease to sense him and that was more important. If at least Rey was alright and had the things she wanted, he'd be okay.
And of course a baby made it complete! They were the main bond that children branched off of but having said children was so exciting. It gave Poe hope that things would work out, life continued even in madness such as this. Sure, Rey was going to be off duty for most of the pregnancy but that just made Poe happier. Sure it was less stress but he'd have more time with Rey! She couldn't train to be a Jedi when she was that far along, right?
"Well let them figure it out. And you already know the answer to that one." he loves her in all her forms. Her cute little cheek pinching wide eyed forms.
"Hmm... dunno. Too early to say." he went silent for a little while, rubbing his hands over her belly. When he speaks again his voice is soft and vulnerable. "If it's a girl can we name her Shara?"

Not that there weren't reasons to fight, but the thought of having a baby only strengthened her resolve to bring them into a world that was free of war and pain and and the kind of loss that no one should ever have to become used to feeling. And even if she was grounded, kept away from the thick of the action, she'd still do whatever she could to make that wish a reality.
Rey absolutely knew the answer - and it wasn't as though she was all that self-conscious, but ... every now and again, a girl just needed a little reassurance. And she was sure that sooner, rather than later, she was going to pop.
But if that meant more sweet little belly rubs like the one he was offering her now ... she wouldn't mind that in the slightest. But then he spoke again, and he sounded as unsure as she's ever heard him, and it made her heart break a little to hear it. "Yes. I think that would be wonderful tribute."

He held her tight, nuzzled her hairline as he smiled. "Thank you..." he kind of hopes it's a girl now. He wonders what his mother would say now, he knew she'd be so pleased. He wondered how she and Rey would get along. Surely his mother would love her since Rey loved him. Rey was so perfect... he had called his father up when he met Rey and he'd been so happy to hear Poe could see colors. Now he couldn't wait to tell him he was going to be a grandfather.
"And you know I think the sight of you with a big belly is just going to make you sexier."

And now that she was pregnant, she was sure that those moments would occur more and more frequently. So she would absolutely appreciate any way that she could be sure that all was well with her soulmate, the love of her life, the father of her baby.
Rey wondered, too, what Poe's mother would have thought about her. Hopefully, she would have been able to see that what she felt was deep, and true, and everlasting, and gave her blessing to them. She'd already spoken to Poe's father, and found herself immediately taken with the elder Dameron. He'd be so excited to know that he was going to have a grand-baby, she just knew!
"You think? You're just ... not gonna be able to keep your hands off of me?", she asked, biting her bottom lip gently. Honestly, she had no problem with that whatsoever.
