( ooc; i went with pre since i'm not sure which side jean would choose. lmk if anything needs changing! :] )

[ Wanda knows what it's like to be feared for her power. At one time she'd almost been proud to incite fear in others. Wanda isn't that person though, she never was. She had tried to believe it because it felt better than the anger she and Pietro lived in for so many years feeling helpless.

The twins were created to be feared, to be used as a weapon that Strucker could wield at the Avengers. At the time it was intoxicating imagining them defeated but time changes us all. In gaining her power and fighting for what she thought was right Wanda lost a part of herself but she found another in the Avengers. A family forged by battle and the understanding of what it's like to be held aloft the rest of humanity by virtue of power.

That feeling of being powerful and being feared isn't something Wanda would wish on anyone though, but that is what her powers have given her. The unknown potential that lies within her scares people, Wanda can see it. She can feel it coming off people, hear it in their thoughts as they try to avoid eye contact and it kills her. Wanda used to be one of those people, scared and afraid of the power given to people seemingly at random and now she has to live knowing almost everyone is terrified of what she could do.

Wanda doesn't need her powers to see the same in Jean. It's obvious in the way she tries to make herself smaller, as if occupying less space might convince people that she's not dangerous. When Wanda approaches it's with the intention of trying to reconcile her own feelings over her situation and thereby help Jean feel less alone. If they understand each other, if they can convince each other of their innocuous intent, maybe it'll be less painful to exist. ]

How are you? [ Wanda is trying to keep herself out of Jean's head, it still feels invasive but she wants Jean to read her intentions. She wants her to know she understands. ] It's been pretty quiet around here, which I suppose is a good thing in our line of work.

[ If anyone will ever truly understand what Jean lives with every day, it won't be the Professor. It'll be Wanda. Professor Xavier tries, and Jean loves him for it, but he's as wary of the power that lives inside as everyone else. He wants her to embrace it, but only because he doubts her ability to control it otherwise.

If Jean's going to embrace her power, she wants it to be because it's the right thing to do, a good thing to do. Not because she doesn't have any other choice.

She doesn't really know much about Wanda or her past, but she can sense a kinship there. A feeling that the young woman knows what it's like to fear and be feared. And if nothing else drew her, at the very least Jean would welcome Wanda's presence simply for the fact that she knows how to contain her own mind. ]

Quiet is always good. Although I'm not sure how long it'll last.

[ If a disturbance doesn't come from the outside, sooner or later Jean's nightmares are bound to provide one from the inside. ]

It is, it's nice. [ Wanda offers a smile, it's small but genuine.

Jean has a point there though, chaos seems to follow the Avengers. It seems to follow all superpowered people, danger is an inevitability now these days. No one is guaranteed safety in life but it seems to have tripled the last few years.

She shrugs, unsure how to reply right away because Jean is right. This moment of peace is temporary and Wanda knows it all too well. Soon something will happen or someone will happen and their world will be all chaos and saving lives. Or trying to, because Wanda has learned you can't save them all and she hates it, she hates it so much. No one should have to suffer because of someone else's choices. Such is life. ]

Let's hope a long time or longer than last time. [ Wanda raises a corner of her mouth, glances at Jean and then returns her gaze to the city beneath them. People move below them, small as ants from where they are and Wanda watches them for a few moments. The city stirs something in her, a longing for something she can't put her finger on. Normality? Safety?

She opens her mouth, thinks better of it and closes her mouth without saying anything. It's another few moments before she speaks again. ]
It can be hard to convince them that you're not dangerous. [ Wanda chances another glance at Jean. ] Impossible. Sometimes I wonder how I could convince them, show them that I'm not... [ A monster. Wanda almost says it and instead shrugs. ] Here to hurt them.
