[ Sharing a dorm room with Jim Kirk hadn't been easy at first. The two of them were too old to be living with other people, but Jim has a couple of years on him and Hikaru has sisters. It's not like this was their first year, though at the time Hikaru was disheartened to learn that his roommate from the year before had dropped out and left him with Kirk of all people. He could handle it, even if it meant sucking it up when his things were moved or when he needed to re-pot one of his plants because the thing was knocked over when Kirk brought back one of their female classmates in a flurry of limbs and lost uniforms.

Technically fraternization is a slippery slope into dismissal, but all that's done is made them sharper, better at being discreet. Sometimes, Hikaru thinks that all not being able to just fuck it out does it make them feel stronger and pine harder for what they can't, by the contract they signed upon enlisting, act on with ease.

Any tension between Midshipmen Kirk and Sulu has gone over the six months of living in close quarters. They had more in common than either of them had expected, and they slid comfortably into a genuine friendship. Hikaru knocked before he entered as he always did, just in case Jim needed to tuck his dick away or hide something he wasn't supposed to have. Upon seeing that his friend wasn't actually in their room he dropped his new Russian textbook on his desk and made his way to the shower to wash away the sweat of his workout and to think.

What was he doing, joining the Russian Studies club? Who was he kidding? Fraternization between Midshipmen was tricky enough, but how long would it take for someone to figure out that he was interested in a freshman? The shower only helped marginally as he relaxed under the spray. Before long he was only getting pruney, forced instead to turn the spray off, towel dry and tug his underwear back on, wondering if Jim was back yet. How long had he even been in shower? ]
