THE CAPTIVITY MEME

You've been captured -- or maybe you've been held captive for a while now. Whatever the case, you've lost your freedom, and there's a specific person responsible for that. You might be a prisoner, a mental patient, a kidnap victim, or someone's pet. Maybe you're there willingly, or maybe the choice has been taken away from you completely.

Both smut and non-smut scenarios are possible. If you don't want to play smut, please indicate so in the title line of your tag.

1. Leave a tag with your character. Be sure to include any limits on what you are willing to play, as this meme has the potential to be triggering.

2. Someone else tags in and uses RNG to generate a number between 1 and 9. The second character is holding the first character captive now.

3. ???

4. Profit!

Scenarios

1. For their own good. Does this person really think they could make it on their own? It's a big, scary world out there, and you need to protect them from it, whether they like it or not.

2. For the good of society. Forget protecting this person -- it's your duty to protect the world from them! Maybe they committed a terrible crime, or maybe they were falsely condemned, but it's your job to keep them locked up where they can't do any more harm.

3. Because they're not well. How's your bedside manner? Whether you're Florence Nightingale or Mildred Ratched, you're in the position of ministering to the mentally ill. Maybe this person genuinely needs your help, or maybe you're just turning a blind eye to their true sanity.

4. For the money. Higher aims? What higher aims? This person is your meal ticket, and they're staying put until their loved ones pay up.

5. For their love. It might be a case of yandere, or it might be a consenting BDSM relationship. Whether it's by mutual agreement or by force, you're keeping them simply because you love them.

6. Because they're cute and fluffy. Who's a cutesy wutesy? They are! Yes, they are! This person is your pet now. Maybe they're a different species from you, or maybe you just don't care that you're both people. Maybe you're even an alien zookeeper looking after a new acquisition.

7. Because they're your property. Slave? Livestock? Who cares what they think - they're your property, and you decide their fate.

8. For the lulz. Hey, what's a little bondage between friends? You'll let them go, once you're done laughing and snapping photos... maybe.

[Yes. Still Kadota won't flinch; he'll only watch Izaya out of the corner of his eye.]

[He just lingers where he is for several long, drawn-out moments, still far too close for the comfort of most, then finally gives a fluid little shrug and temporarily moves back, only to give himself enough space to slip through the space separating front and back of the van and slide into the front passenger seat]

Then I guess you'll just have to entertain me for a little longer, huh?

[And he slips something from his pockets and turns to begin fiddling with the locked door]

[Kadota, man of steel. It's a small victory; when the other starts messing with the door he'll lean over, now his own hand on Izaya's shoulder.]

Stop that.

[Izaya just ignores that restraining hand, continuing on with his ministrations with a dismissive little shrug. He merely hums lightly beneath his breath, acting as though Kadota's demand hasn't registered at all]

Don't break the van.

[Damnit. He'll pull the other away from the door, forcibly.]

[And he's pulled away from his task with a small sound of complaint; he's not weak by any means, but then neither has brute strength ever been his particular domain. Still, a brief flicker of light coruscates from between his fingers as his switchblade flicks into his hand, though he does little more than reveal it's presence; it's rare for him to use physical violence outside of necessity - or when dealing with Shizuo - and while this situation's becoming tiresome to him he still views it as little more than a game]

Then let me out and there'll be no need to worry about the potential for damage.

[And he smiles]

[That switch-blade. Izaya wouldn't really resort to that, would he? Kadota wasn't really a threat at the moment; it was for the good of Ikebukuro that he was doing this, after all.

Even if Izaya didn't care about that kind of thing. Still, he'll let go.]

It's not me you'll have to talk to if you break it. It's Togusa.

[Of course not, not under circumstances like these, and while Izaya is aware that Kadota will recognise the emptiness of his gesture, it has the desired effect regardless. He just smiles all the brighter for it]

Then it'd be better for both of us if you let me out before it comes to that.

[Kadota was usually pretty selfless; it wasn't a conscious thing, it was simply who he was. He'd keep Izaya here as long as he could.]

According to you.

[Which has him huffing lightly as he shifts over in his seat, once again invading the taller man's personal space as he reaches round to discover whether the keys are still in the ignition; if Kadota won't let him out he'll just have to do it himself]

This might have gone more smoothly for you if you'd at least had the good grace to try and keep me entertained.

You're assuming I'd know what kind of things would entertain you.

[He really doesn't want to know.

Nope; Izaya is not going to find those keys there. They're secure in Kadota's pocket.]

It's not so very hard.

[Though Kadota is quite right in thinking that he wouldn't like to find out.

The lack of keys in the ignition hardly surprises him, and he has no problem with attempting to dip into the other man's pockets in an effort to retrieve them, regardless of the fact he's sure Kadota will try to prevent him. It's a test of patience more than any real effort to fish out the keys himself]

[He'll beat Izaya to his pocket and take the keys out himself, moving them to his other hand and closing a fist around them.]

Maybe I just don't care.

[A slight eye roll, now.]

[Another softly exhaled breath, but he makes no move to back away despite that he knows he'll be unable to simply pry the keys from the other man's hands. He's far too close, but he seems indifferent to that as he shrugs in response to the eye-roll]

Then I suppose I'll just have to entertain myself. Or simply let myself out.

[A wide, sharp smile; he'll damage the van if necessary, given his slowly escalating boredom]

Though if it's just my run-ins with Shizu-chan that concern you, you could always try dropping me off in Shinjuku. Surely that'd make more sense than having the two of us sit around doing nothing.

[Though you know he'll come right back again :|]

If I did that, would you try to stay out of Shizuo's way?

[A question that receives a bright, refreshing smile]

Of course. It's not as though I seek him out intentionally.

[Except sometimes... :|]

That's fine; we can stay here.

[He's pretty much unflappable at the moment.]

Ah~

[And he makes a small, dismissive gesture with his hand]

Then I suppose you can explain to Togusa-kun about the damage caused to his precious van.

[And he finally moves out of the other man's personal space to continue his efforts with the door]

[Kadota will hold out his hand.]

Can you wait a bit longer? Maybe 15 minutes.

[He's just waiting for a text from Karisawa or Walker. Once they says they're good, the coast is clear.

. . . speaking of, he wonders if any of their stuff might still be in the van. He'll suddenly move to the backseat and start rummaging.]

[He dismisses the request with a shrug of his shoulders, not bothering to turn and face the other man as he continues with his work with the door]

Sadly I'm not feeling overly inclined to indulge you considering the circumstances. This is unlawful imprisonment, I hope you realise.

[Though his tone is light, almost teasing; it's not as though lawfulness has ever held much sway over his own behaviour, after all]

[Kadota is tired of this. Also, he's found something actually useful that the others had left in the van. He'll hit the unlock button on the keys, then get out of the sliding door. Then he'll open Izaya's door, leaving space for the other to stand next to him on the sidewalk.]

It seems pretty lawful to me, but I guess you're right.

[He just laughs in response to the other's statement as he slipping through the space left for him as the door slides open. He doesn't bother to disguise the slight smugness at the edges of his expression, clearly feeling that this is some kind of victory. That the other man has given up]

Ah, I'm a little confused over just how you could consider holding someone against there will lawful, but that's okay. I guess I'll be off now.

Before you go-

[And there it is, with a click around Izaya's wrist. He'll take the other end of Karisawa's handcuffs and lock it closed around a street sign.]

I go by my own laws.

[His smug self-confidence slips for the briefest of moments as he feels the metal snap tight around his wrist, though he doesn't allow it to remain there for long. He dips his head, lips curled slightly in something approaching good-natured exasperation as he tugs gently on his new restraints]

You realise if you leave me here Shizu-chan will find me eventually. Didn't you want to avoid needless destruction?

[he thinks he can slip the cuffs if necessary, but the truth is he's just a little concerned over being kept immobile if Shizuo does find him here]

It's okay if you break the handcuffs with your switchblade.

[Just not the van.]

I did, but because I know you I realized it was pointless. Anyway, it wasn't really my idea in the first place.

[He'll start to go, but then look over his shoulder.]

If you ask nicely maybe Shizuo will help you.

[And with that, he'll be getting back into the van, starting the engine.]
