Long-Distance Relationship Meme a romantic relationship between two people who live far apart and so are unable to meet on a frequent basis. What to do if the person you're with...isn't with you? They could be living a town over, across the world, or even across the universe. However, living with you may not be off the table for them; instead, it possibly could be a time to time affair. Most of the time, though, they're off somewhere else and quite busy: working hard to advance their career, playing with their band, leading a revolution, whatever their passion of choice may be. [It's late and a reasonable person would be sleeping, but Hux always has too much work to do, and that's more true now than ever. Receiving a holo-recording from Ren is actually a pleasant surprise, enough that he takes a break in his work to respond:]

I know you're busy with your training, so I don't expect to hear from you every cycle. Have you had any success? I hope your training is going well. A couple more worlds recently swore their allegiance to the First Order, and our focus as of late has been squashing the small pockets of the Resistance supporters there.

Exhausting. I succeeded in retrieving the amulet, but he does not feel I have earned the privilege of using it. Not yet... I fear it may be some time before I am permitted to return. You may have to endure the quiet and the empty bed for a little while longer.

( A romantic relationship between people whose responsibilities keep them worlds apart for months at a time is not an easy thing. Idunn may not have trouble pouring herself into her research for days at a time without a regret, but the moment she returns to whatever lodging she is using during her stay, she feels a gloomy sense of loneliness. The nightly video calls are all that keep Idunn from sulking all evening, even if they fail to squash the feeling of longing.

Unfortunately for her tonight, she is running late by almost half an hour. Idunn normally takes time to make herself presentable before singing in to see Sofia, but not tonight. As the program logs on, she takes the few moments to get her hair under control after sprinting here after realizing how late she was. That is the best she can manage for now, she thinks...but she quickly undoes the top few buttons of her blouse.

Idunn crosses her fingers as the program finishes connecting, hoping that Sofia is still there waiting. She doesn't doubt the woman is, but...well, if Sofia gave up, then it would serve Idunn right for being late. She is feeling guilty. )

[Sofia wasn't so different in how she felt about the way she's always apart from Idunn. Sometimes it is even difficult to sleep without the reassurance that the woman she loves is doing okay, wherever she is. It doesn't help that Sofia is often sent to dangerous places. The thought of worrying those close to her makes her feel a little guilty as well. When Idunn was running late, Sofia briefly wondered what kept her partner from showing up on time. Nagging thoughts begin to flood her conscious mind, making Sofia feel antsy. She tried to calm her mind as she waits, hoping Idunn would log in sooner rather than later. Minutes pass and Sofia feels herself being lulled to sleep by the hurricane winds and muffled rain trickling against the tent she's staying in.

But when a familiar sound blared from her tablet's speakers, Sofia felt a jolt from within her self, prodding her awake and stare at the screen with weary eyes. Once she realizes it wasn't a dream, she drives her finger to press the "Accept Call" button on the screen, even clicking her tongue twice when the program was being sluggish. Sofia's first reaction was a wide and bright smile across her cheeks, having her spirits lifted by the sight of her girlfriend. Sofia wasn't wearing anything fancy. Rather she's wearing her favorite baggy shirt, her reading glasses, and have her hair up in a little messy bun. Just how she looks like whenever they're home together]

H-Hey! Idunn! You're here!

[That wasn't what she intended to say. In fact earlier, Sofia was thinking of more charming things to say to Idunn, just to make the other woman smile or laugh. But her joy and stresses of the day made whatever ideas she cooked up fly out the window]

Can you hear me alright? The storm is pretty bad where I'm in...

( Seeing Sofia's face, even through a screen, is all Idunn needs to smile. There is an ache as she thinks of being there to drag the exhausted woman to bed or having Sofia's head in her lap while on the couch. But she still feels a warmth knowing Sofia hadn't given up or fallen asleep. Seeing Sofia so...normal charms Idunn more than anything clever could. )

Oh...Yes, I can hear you fine for the moment.

( It seems tonight is going to be the perfect combination of things conspiring to interrupt their call. She hopes the storm doesn't interrupt the call, not after running late and keeping Sofia awake. )

What is Tony supposed to do? Not answering is always an option, and let's be real avoidance should be Tony's middle name. The problem is.... it's Steve.... he should be royally pissed, and oh man was he ever. There was a kernel of a though niggling in the back of his mind. What if Steve was in trouble.

They never knew when they were going to find each other; that sort of tension was fine by Chris - he kind of liked the subtle ache in his chest whenever he wondered where Miles was and what he was up to and when they would finally meet face to face. Maybe it wouldn't happen, though; he had started flirting with Miles in a chat room when he was seventeen, and he'd only come clean about that on his nineteenth birthday, when he realized he liked Miles more than his flirtations gave away.

He'd been initially bored, but once Chris dropped out of school and took to wandering, Miles proved to be one of his few connections to the social world. Miles's schedule made it hard to stay consistently in touch, but Chris liked to surprise him with little messages now and then.

Today, he was sending Miles a selfie of himself in the grass with a St. Bernard, a bright grin plastered on Chris's face.

It had all started because Miles had been investigating someone. Snooping around their every day life, part of which consisted of frequent visits to a certain chatroom. Chris actually had nothing to do with the guy, as far as he was aware, but he had talked to everyone who visited chat at least once to glean some information. It just so happened that Chris was the only one he spoke to more than once. Even after shameless flirting back and forth (and Miles was big on shameless flirting) he never told Chris that, mostly to keep things from getting complicated. He went about his job in unconventional ways that got him fired from a reputable company - the reason he went into freelance. The things he did in the name of "truth" weren't always legal.

Point being, as far as Chris is concerned Miles is just an extraordinarily busy investigative journalist, which was the truth really. Some feelings complicated things more than he cared for, though. He would disappear for weeks at a time, even a month at one point, unable to take his mind off his work long enough to send a message. There was also that whole incident at Mt. Massive that he kept to himself. He didn't even tell Chris that he's missing two of his fingers. Nope, as far as he's concerned he gets wrapped up in work and eventually resurfaces unchanged.

There's a smile tugging at his lips as he sees the text, lowering the screen of his laptop so as not to distract him from answering.

Completely handsome. The dog isn't so bad either.

It wasn't like Miles didn't want to meet Chris. He just didn't want Chris to meet him. The worn, tired, usually at least half drunk, mess of a man he's become was sure to be a disappointment to the "put together" journalist he pretends to be. It's easy to maintain that when you're not face to face. His often dark humor comes across as just that over text and the phone. In person it just shows the depressing, bitter mess he grew to be.
