TRIBUTE TO THE GODS ( an AU smut meme ) From the beginning of time, people have worshipped the gods of their choosing by offering sacrifices. The reasons - forgiveness, for good fortune, a prosperous crop season- varied, as did the mode of showing such reverence. In some cultures, a simple feast would suffice. In others, those nations more prone to violence and warfare, blood was called for. Now, the gods once again call for bodies to be offered, but no entrails will be spilt. Instead, they ask for carnal pleasure. Why they need sex, no one knows. Whether it be for entertainment, to inspire fealty, or even in order to keep their powers, they require tribute all the same. Often, "younger" gods will need more sacrifices and more followers, while more established and older gods become known for individualized sex acts and habits. For the mortals, not only is being given by your people a great honor, but being a sex tribute to the gods has its perks. Pleasing a god will win extra special blessings, and, tales say, some gods will fall in love with their partners and keep them by their side, an action that means bestowing immortality. So, where does your character fall in all this? Are they a mortal? A god? This is an AU, so all characters can be twisted into gods, somehow: ie, the Starks from GoT could be primal, barbarian winter gods while the Homestuck trolls could be elder gods from the outer rim of space. Is the sacrifice consensual, or is there a reluctant human or a god who wishes they didn't have to bother involved? Most importantly, is the sex good enough to earn benefit for all? ( HOW TO PLAY ) Comment with your character, preferences, and info. If you're AUing your character into being a god, feel free to include some details like what their element or domain would be, family matters/pantheons, if they're young/old, how they feel about the whole tribute process, what they especially like, what it's like to outlive lovers, if they have worshippers, their nature in general, and etc. Go nuts and have fun. [The gods were something Lapis never paid much attention to, both through lack of interest and how her attention was usually focused on the dead - her powers as a medium letting her befriend and calm unruly ghosts. Her jobs sometimes brought her close to the temple were one god was worshiped, and while she could tell that there was something there, she never cared enough to investigate.

Which is why she finds herself a bit perplexed over how she has been selected as the tribute for this god. Lapis never understood if it was their choice, the gods choice, or some sort of random selection - it was hard to process what was happening as she finds herself pulled into the temple to prepare. She didn't argue though, since she knows this sort of thing is beneficial to both the people of the community and the deceased. And while she wasn't too fussed before, she won't turn down a chance to talk to a god.

Though the exact nature of the tribute is... embarrassing. But she tries not to dwell on that as she's ushered into the altar, fidgeting with the fabric of the gown she had been shoved into, not exactly sure how to proceed with this.]

Abel hadn't signed up for this. He'd been chosen, non-optional, though they hadn't told him if he'd been chosen by the god himself or by a determined priest. Abel wasn't entirely sure he believed there was a god waiting for him. There were rumours, sometimes, that this was all a conspiracy by the priests, and that there wasn't any god at all.

Either way, Abel was going to find out. He had been bathed and perfumed, dressed in expensive white silks with subtle touches of gold embroidery. They'd woven flowers into his hair. Abel itched to tug them out, but leaving a trail of crushed blossoms would offer an insult before he'd even seen his new master.

Restraining his irritation and temper, Abel clenched his fists and stood quietly in the sumptuous reception room where they had left him. A fountain bubbled prettily at the center of the room, and soft couches and cushions lined the walls and crowded into alcoves. He'd been waiting for some time, but Abel was too proud to sit.

[It isn't often that someone is called in on a rescue mission for Captain America. But if it needs to happen, Romanoff is the first to know. Rogers had been working with some mass suicide threat, religious extremists entirely devoted in their slavish devotion. There had been no bodies recovered, but Rogers had never returned, either. Romanoff was to pick up the pieces and construct a decent explanation.

The extremists themselves seem to be a warm, placid group. They welcome Natasha into their collective when she attempts to slip undercover, eager to dote on her. They offer to help with her hair and makeup, and are generally a fairly touchy bunch. They often talk about a singular God, but dissolve into wistful sighs when pressed for information.

It's a chance moment when Steve spots her, a mingling through halls as they move through common spaces. He's dressed in pale blue silks, muscles visible in all sorts of ways as his movements shift the drape of the fabric. He smiles, fully unfettered by any kind of restraints.]

[ Little was known for certain about The Goddess of the Church In The Ruins. She had no gospel, no statues were made, no relics retained. Not even her name was known for certain, depending on who you ask.

But what was agreed upon was her power. She was said capable of granting all sorts of boons- anything from the more mundane favors one may pray for: fair weather, good fortune in crops, fertility and love, to the truly miraculous: protection from impossible enemies, healing from mortal injury, even messages from the dead. But how to earn such favors? It was as hard to get a straight answer about that as anything else- many a pilgrim or offering had made their way through the ancient crumbling concrete and rebar, but seen nothing of the goddess. Others would simply demure and refuse to answer anything about their encounter. The best one could get by way of advice was, "she likes flowers."

The day this particular pilgrim reaches the church is bright and clear- outside the birds are singing and flitting in and out of crumbling skyscrapers. The jungle that consumed the ancient city is bright and green and lively. But the walls of the Cathedral look frozen in time- sunlight filtering through colored glass, none of the jungle growth climbing up the sides. The interior itself, though, has long given way to time. There are no pews or floor, simply a lush carpet of wildflowers, with a stone altar and crystal-bright spring on the far end.

There's no sign at all of the goddess, but someone is already here. A young woman dressed a bit strangely- a foreigner?- is crouched down by one bank of the spring, observing something with what appears to be rapt interest. But she'll look up at the sound of the great old doors opening. ]

Part of her expects to be tangled in thorns any moment as she enters the church ruins, planting her staff as the woman (goddess) looks toward her.

She will not retreat, though instinct screams at her not to continue walking in alone. This was how the earliest of her people were captured by Asura for experiments, this was how --

Idelisa clears her throat, and lifts her chin, stubborn. One hand is still on the great door that she's pushed open, the other holding her staff in a death grip. The Priory came to investigate, and she is determined to learn what the others dared not.]

riku, strong as many men but pale as the moon, had been selected. part of him had honestly expected it--he stuck out like a sore thumb, like he was born for the mountains full of snow and not the colorful landscape of the plains. he'd fought his own battles, but riku wasn't quite sure how much more honor he could muster for his people.

at least the trek to the divine palace of the god had proved calm, and he lay down his weapons and armor at the entrance.

watching as the sun crested across part of the window on the ceiling, he noted it was the time he'd been told to arrive, and felt his heart beat hard in his chest. time, day, right place... and he was here, to serve as the tribute for his people. now, he had to wait. ]

Ronon's hands were bound in leather bindings behind his back. Strong and tight they were as his wrists strain against them. The big man was a mix of emotions as he knelt on the ground of an alien planet. He felt shame for getting caught by these primitive people. Anger for being unable to get out of these simple binding. Guilt for not protecting his friends. Most of all he felt embarrassed that, when he was knocked unconscious, they stripped him of his clothes and painted his flesh.

It seems that before him stood a temple of their deity and he was being offered to it in sacrifice. He tried to stand, tried to escape to fate, but he felt weak. He had been drugged to be compliant. From around the clearing he began to hear chanting from the indigenous people that had gathered around to call upon their God.
