He'd only done it because, based on some words the Soldier said during their first encounter, he thought HYDRA might be looking to recruit him, make him into another weapon.

If he could convince them he was cracking, maybe there would be an opportunity to escape. Maybe he could escape with their prized spy and assassin.

That thought was the only reason he crouched down and opened up the bag. For the small bit of hope that it might help both of them escape. "Alright, looks like it's your turn. Go sit on the cot."
