This is an Inception AU Meme




The rules are quite simple:

Step 1: Comment with your character's name and title in the Inception-verse in the subject line (The fandom too, if you wish, but it's not necessary)

Step 1a: Titles and descriptions are as follows:

Architect: The Architect is the one who builds the dream locations, whether it's a mock up of a real place, or somewhere completely from scratch, it's their job to make sure that the mark doesn't know that their environment isn't real

Chemist: The Chemist is the one who supplies the Somnacin, the dream-machine drug, whether they mix their own or get it from a reputable distributor. Generally the one who keeps an eye on the sleepers topside.

Extractor: The Extractor is the person who does most of the intensive work, they're the ones who actually collect the information from the mark within the dream, whether it's by talking it out of them or breaking into their safe to get it.

Forger: The Forger is something of a wild card, Forgers can change their appearance in a dream, this is not a skill most people have, appearing only as themselves. Generally it's a Forger's job to take on the appearance of someone close to the mark, get the information needed from them as smoothly as possible.

Mark: The Mark is the person who has the information that the extraction team is after. Rich businessman, government drone who's been embezzling from the company coffers, cheating spouse, you name it. Someone's paid big money to get the information you have.

Point: The Point is the one who pulls all the information together, on the mark and on teammates, it's up to them to make sure the job goes as smoothly as possible.

Tourist: The Tourist is someone who's just along for the ride, whether they're the one who's paying for the extraction and they're along to protect their investment, or whether they're someone's Yoko Ono, they shouldn't be there, because they aren't trained, but circumstances have thrown them in as well.

Shade: The Shade is a memory of someone, lodged in the back of one of the team's minds. Not always malevolent, but sometimes so, they may be dead, they may be otherwise lost, but the Shade is a person who only exists in dreams.

(of course, if you already play someone from Inception, you can change their title or stick with the canon one, it's up to you!)

Step 2: Tag around with one of the following scenarios (or make up your own, I'm not the boss of you)

Planning stages: This is the part where the whole thing looks a bit like Oceans Eleven, getting the team together, making sure everyone's available, pinning down a timeline, setting up surveillance of the mark and so on.

Practice run: Now the job is well underway and testing is required to make sure everyone knows what they're supposed to be doing and when, this is also when plans get finalized, and is the best time to weed out any potential problems.

On the job: It's go time! Hopefully everyone knows their part and nobody's going to crash the party. But of course it can't be that easy, can it?

After the job: Well the job's over, was it a success? A failure? Did everyone survive or did someone get left behind with their brain leaking out their ears? Is it time to celebrate or time to cut and run?

Step 3: Have fun!

[ They say the shared dream is addictive and no one knows this better than Sherlock. It started slow. A dream to escape the monotonous humdrum of the waking world. A dream for relief. A dream to cure boredom. In his dreams he would built a world of gas lamps and english fog. Cobblestone streets and handsome cabs. He projected the vague idea of the perfect criminal and his subconscious sewed in the missing portions. It was a rush, an addiction. He needed the dream. He spent years in the world he had created. It was his reality. ]

They had to stop him eventually. Pull the plug on his somnacin habit.

Wake up, Sherlock.

It's Mycroft's orders but Lestrade's handiwork that forces him back. Back into the world of the boring little people with their boring little lives. He felt so much older, so much - wiser. Reality gave him limits. In the dream, he didn't feel things like tired or hungry. He didn't need things like rest. He couldn't delete events or people in the real world. It grated on him.

It doesn't take him too long to slip. Dissapearing is easy. Fake suicide naturally. Roof as choice of weapon. He's just a dead junkie as far as the world is concerned. The somnacin habit, however, is an expensive one so he figures working in subconscious security is the way to go.

They leave him on point because that's the only thing that he can handle. As an architect, he focuses too much on detail. He can't build for others, his creations are too rigid and impersonal. They never leave him around chemicals (He's injected 7% Somnacin solution into his veins during a job once - it helps me think was his only remark of excuse). He's too cold to be a forger, he understands characters but cannot think like them. He can't extract, not really. He's too cocky for it, too sure and arrogant. He can never get the mark to trust him. On point Sherlock is spectacular. He can read into people's histories, hack into their files. He works with data more than people and he finds comfort in that distance. He's organized and meticulous about his information. It's his job to know what others do not and it works for him. ]

[This This is good. The Red Keep as Renly had described it in the paperwork, but with more imagination and vibrancy than he expected from a green architect. He had gotten the story from Joffrey's old nanny, fired when the boy was old enough to blame her and call her a thief. The story of the Little Lion, in his red kingdom, that Cersei had told the child every night before bed for as long as he could stand it, and continued to tell to her two younger children. It was a good story, one Renly had heard himself when he was younger in passing, but this?

This was much better than he expected.

It's the fact that he was familiar with the story beforehand that has him running this level. The outfit he's dressed in was of his own creation of course, something medieval chic, and he smiles at Robb when he's done glancing around superficially.]

While his relationship with Mal had been nothing like any friendship or working relationship he had with anyone else, it was beautiful in it's simplicity and often times she was the only person he trusted within dream sharing. They often clashed over trivial matters like root vegetables or house music - nothing of any importance and they had rarely ever meant any unkind word they said to each other during a spat.

Needless to say when she passed, Eames was undeniably upset and felt like he was missing a crucial part of himself. There had been days where he had thought of her extensively and even moments where he thought she was in the periphery of his unconscious mind, popping up during his less exciting jobs. It was normal that Domm had been seeing her shade, he didn't blame the man at all, but he felt off kilter that he was seeing her, even now when he was under by himself, prepping a forge.

He could always detect her presence before he saw her in reality, and he could swear that she was lurking somewhere in abandoned theatre he'd been practicing in.

Whether it was Jackson's idea or Lydia's idea through Jackson will likely be forever unclear, but signing Lydia to be a chemist on the firm's payroll had been a brilliant one none the less. He kisses her cheek as he leans over her shoulder, taking a look at chemicals he doesn't really understand.]

Not that he doesn't find himself bent over a laptop every so often, or with his nose in a book, and today just happens to be one of those particular days in their preparation. More than researching though, he's fact checking, preparing for the group meeting later in the day.]

He didn't know why he was here, what he was doing, only that he had a brief connection with international crime and something called the Somacin Project which had been disbanded years ago. Disbanded, but classified. That was it. But Blake wasn't happy with it, and he was going to find more.

More led him to an office building, a certain floor, a certain room. And suddenly he was opening a door and there they were, all...asleep. Blake moved around the room, checking pulses, trying to figure out what was going on. Arthur was off to the side, and when Blake found it safe to put his gun away, he pulled out a plastic bag.

Just a DNA sample. That's all he could get for now, with no warrant. No real reason to be there. Just a hair and then he could go, maybe call in an anonymous tip because this couldn't be legal. No way.]

Thor searched nearly every day until Sif broke his nose and shouted that Loki wasn't coming back. it was then that their once-merry band of dreamers broke up, and Thor stopped looking so hard for his brother.

he was working with a thin-framed nurse and a quirky grad student on this job. Jane, the nurse, was their point. she was brilliant and exceptional at what she did, and Thor found himself undeniably attracted to her. Darcy, the student, was the architect. she was wildly creative, but uncontrolled and in his days, Thor had seen better. their mark was a man named Kyle, who had a feral grin and long, mangy hair. he frightened her, Thor noted during the initial contact. easily shaken dreamers were a liability. that was why Loki was so excellent. steadfast and witty, he never let anything get the best of him during their dreams.

Thor stood among modern, sleek buildings with cascading glass windows. the ground trembled just barely beneath him, and with a side glance at the younger woman, the shaking stopped. Jane took Darcy and their guest Selvig off into the main plazastreet square, leaving Thor standing on the marble steps of the building. the gray suddenly shifted gray and crackled with sound. Darcy was the dreamer at this stage, but somehow the storm clouds that so often trademarked Thor's own dreams had etched themselves here.

[ it takes a certain amount of concentration to maintain the illusion, but natasha has spent so long slipping into other people's skins topside that it goes smoothly down in the dream, as well. at times she's been asked if she turned to forgery because she disliked her own person, but to successfully take on a role the way she does, blur the edges where she ends and her forge begins, you need to be comfortable in your own body, with your own identity. know your own name, know your own face, know yourself inside out. if she didn't, she would've ended up in a hail of bullets long ago after messing up an extraction, and her reputation would've been a different one entirely.

in this dream, set in a fictional city in italy, carefully put together by their architect, natasha's name is maura calabresi. she's the older sister of their mark, oberto, and her team's gone under to find out whether or not the man is trying to cheat his father, their client, out of his million euro fortune. it's taken days to get him to trust her enough to give her access, but she's close enough that she can taste it -- or, as it were, see it. the safe in his office which the three of them know the combination to. oberto himself is busy and distracted by maria, their point, and natasha has ten minutes to get her hands on the information they need and kick herself out of the dream with a gunshot.

the forge isn't necessary any longer, as she's played her part in this already, so she lets blonde curls turn red and brown eyes shift back into their blue-tinted green, kneeling in front of the safe to work on the lock. she works fast, just in case the projections are closing in, because even if the time limit she was given is ten minutes, she knows that she never has that much. ten means five, at most - it's something you learn early on, more often than not the hard way; a knife to the gut or hands locking around your throat like a vice. ]
