THE CRACK PAIRING MEME

An unusual relationship of any kind of fandom (i.e. books, television shows, movies, ect.) that is unlikely to happen.

Randomly take two characters… they don’t have to know each other, they don’t have to show ANY signs of a relationship, and hook them together. That is a crack pairing.

We all know them. Fandoms have fostered these little gems of shipping since the early days, and now, they can even be serious contenders in even the most hostile of shipping wars. Maybe they're absolutely ridiculous and only "for the lulz." Perhaps they make perfect sense...if you squint. Whatever the case may be, these so-called "crack" pairings are not canon and they're nowhere near as popular in fandom as the big fanon pairings.

Most of the time.

Of course, it's important to note that a lot of the time in RP, pairings are always crack pairings. Especially crossover ships, which canon purists would deride purely for being impossible. Still, in memes, that's less likely to happen because people either stick with canon ships, fanon ships, or close CR because of the lack of opportunities for development that games offer.

Not here. This meme is for ALL your ridiculousness, all your high school fangirl dreams, and just plain not being sorry for your ships. Think these characters would be cute together? Go for it. That character have adorable icons and that all you know about them? Ship it, by all means. Here, the reasons come after the desire.

RULES
- Comment with your character and preferences. If you want, you can include a one sentence or so blurb about your character. But blank comments are fine.

Sweet
1. Can't deny it - you've tried to run from your feelings for so long and you can't do it anymore. It's time that you show the object of your affection exactly how you feel. Hopefully you don't lose everything in the process!
2. First time - it's your first time making love together. Is it awkward? Do you go all out or is it spur of the moment?
3. Accidental - you didn't actually mean to confess or kiss. They overheard you or it was an accidental kiss. Maybe you were just really drunk and let it slip!
4. Close as can be - you just want to make love and you've found a spot where it's just you and your partner, however you want it to be.
5. Happily ever after - somehow, you've made it work and you're both happy together, even if it meant you had to run away together.
6. Appreciation - show appreciation for your lover! With words, a look, or whatever your choice way to display affection is!
7. Cuddling - nothing wrong with a day of cuddling...
8. Vacation - you're on a vacation! Wherever you want to be. Road trip, amusement park, Grand Canyon, etc.
9. Family - you're visiting family! Maybe they find out about your relationship, maybe they already know, or however you want to play it out! Maybe you've got news you're starting a family by getting pregnant, adopting, or even getting a new pet.
10. Acceptance - someone who disapproved of your relationship before suddenly approves. How's that feel to you and your lover?
11. Surprise - you've planned a surprise! What is it?
12. Date - first date, second date, hundredth date, etc. What are you doing for it?
13. Reunited → it's been awhile since you've seen each other and nothing can ruin this moment.

Angst
1. Conflict - you've just had a fight with your lover over your relationship or how you handle it. Can you find it in yourselves to forgive each other?
2. Cheated - your lover has cheated on you and you need to confront them about their reasons why and if you can work it out.
3. Found out - you've been found out by someone close to you and they're less than thrilled with your relationship.
4. Disgust - though they play along with it, they're secretly disgusted by the relationship they have with you and it finally comes out into the light.
5. Guilt - one of you is feeling guilty over your relationship, knowing it can never be truly normal or more than a secret.

Comfort
1. Soothing touch - what better way to sooth your lover than to make love to them and show them that no matter what other people say, you're not going anywhere.
2. Fight for you - whoever has found out about your relationship is trying to hurt your lover and you're not going to let them.
3. Won't let you go - you need your lover to realize that you won't let them go, no matter what.
4. Back together - you broke up for a bit, but whatever it is between you two, you can't stay apart.
5. Injured - your lover was injured because of your relationship and it's time to patch them up.

Twisted
1. Forced - you know your partner isn't interested in you like this, but you keep them going along with the relationship no matter what. Coercion, blackmail, whatever it takes.
2. Won't take no - their lips might say no, but you're not listening.
3. Control - you've given them some kind of potion to get your love interest to love you in return and they have to do whatever you say.
4. Recorded - you're not really interested in this forbidden love affair, but you must do it or you'll face some tough consequences.
5. Insult - you're cornered by those who disapprove of your relationship, hearing how filthy you are.

Sexy
1. Rough - you want it rough and hard tonight. Bites, scratches, bruises, etc.
2. Toys - you want to try some props tonight... toys or fuzzy handcuffs.
3. Bondage - more extreme. You're tied up, used, forced to orgasm, whatever.
4. Make up - make up sex is the best sex.
5. Public - you're feeling a little wild so why not a blowjob under the tablecloth in a restaurant or sex in the car?
6. Interrupted - oh yes, oh yes, oh--who the hell is that watching us?!

Ending
1. Left alone - you woke up to your lover trying to slip away in the night because of the strain of the relationship. Do you let them go or try and fight for it?

3. Ending fight - the argument has turned dirty and ends with one of you storming out.
4. Parting ways - both of you have decided to part ways. It's just so much easier.
5. Always love you - though you'll always love each other, maybe it's time the relationship goes back to being strictly platonic. It would be easier... or maybe that's just how one of you feels.

[ okay cool! sorry about bugging you, I'm new to this and wanted to make sure I wasn't accidentally going to lose you. take as much time as you need! ]

Dean could have been a great pilot. He knew every inch of a Viper like the back of his hand; had taken them apart and put them back together so many times he could have done it in his sleep. He'd logged so many hours in the flight simulator when he was young and ambitious he practically lived there. But when the ground dropped out from under him for real, Dean hated flying. Hated it with every white knuckled, nauseated fiber of his being. He just couldn't hack it.

So he'd dropped out of the figter program, and became a flight mechanic instead. His decorated old man wasn't entirely disappointed with him. But there were some people, like his brother, Sammy, who would never let him live it down. Not that Sam coukd talk. He'd gone to law school, for crying out loud. Dean ribbed him just as much for that.

But Sam wasn't the only one who gave Dean a hard time about the fact that Galactica was basically a giant, flying city. There was Starbuck, too.

Never one to let a good thing go, Starbuck frequently reminded Dean of their spaceship status aboard Galactica. She loved how at first he'd almost turn green when he'd once again consider the fact that there was nothingness all around them. Now though, he must have been getting used to it, since lately he shrugged her off easier. She was happy for him, but she'd always find some way to rib at him, if she could.

It wasn't because she disliked him, in fact it was quite the opposite. Kara admittedly tended to act like a young boy when it came to people she liked, and Dean was no exception. Of course she hadn't admitted to herself that she liked him yet, she just saw him as a fraking amazing mechanic she enjoyed messing with.

So when she heard he might be transferring back down to the ground, she immediately sought him out and found him in his quarters.

"You're not allowed to leave." She stands with arms crossed in the doorway.

Dean looked up at her from his bunk, brows arched in exaggerated shock. If he was honest, he looked forward to her dropping in on him, and often left his door ajar on purpose to invite the opportunity. Not that he was ready or willing to be quite that honest, but it was no secret he enjoyed a good fight. Among other f-words.

Besides, he sometimes felt like he and Starbuck had a lot more in common than he and his brother, so he generally enjoyed having her around. It wasn't like he didn't give as good as he got.

"I know you're gonna miss me, Starbuck," he teased, "but I don't think it's your call."

"Maybe not, but I can sure as frak make your live a living hell until you leave." She raises a brow at him. "Sure you wanna deal with that for however long it takes for your transfer to go through? Where're you goin' anyway?"

She stands imposingly, hands on hips as she looks down at him. Of course it wasn't her call, but damn it it sounded like he really was leaving and she didn't want that to happen. She had to try something, and well, what was Kara good at if not being a giant pain in the ass?

"Somewhere I can only see the stars if I look up," he said, standing so that he was almost toe-to-toe with Kara, staring her down properly. "Getting to feel some goddamn sand between my toes? Totally worth whatever you can throw at me." He was totally baiting her now, but so what? It was like breathing for them.

He told himself he wasn't going to be the first to admit that he'd miss it.

Her posture doesn't change, she's firm, looking up unblinkingly into his eyes when he takes his imposing position. She's wound up, unaware of why Dean's leaving means so much to her, only that it does, and she's not going to let it happen.

"Oh yeah? You don't like Galactica? Being in space, nothing but nothing outside? Look around, ground-lover, you're nowhere near the sand, closer to the stars. And this is where you'll be, for a good, long time if I have anything to say about it."

"Oh, yeah?" Dean edges closer, his chin angling in challenge, or in invitation--he's not quite sure which. It shouldn't bother him to hear her call him ground-lover. They call each other names all the time, in good fun. Friendly rivalry. Whatever. He and Sam do it, too, but Kara's not like his brother, and he doesn't want her to be.

"Give me one good reason why a ground-lover like me should stay up here in the black."

Kara's chin raises and her jaw clenches. She's coming up empty on good reasons. All she's got is "I want you to" which isn't really a reason more of a feeling and she's not about to let him know she feels for him. Wait, does she? Feel for him?

"I..." She starts, then doesn't know how to continue. Tries again.

"No one else cares for my bird the way you do." There, a reason. Not a good one, but it's something and gives her time to think.

Her answer didn't sound so muh like a reason he should stay as a reason why she didn't want to let him go, but Dean supposed that it was close enough. "Of course I care for your bird," he said, voice low, and rough around the edges. "I know what can happen to a pilot if I don't."

It was part of the reason why he couldn't stand to fly. He couldn't stop thinking about all the things that could go wrong. But it made him a damn good mehanic. He caught things other people might miss, before they could become a major problem. "I don't want to see that happen."

Truth was, he was afraid of what might happen anyway. Afraid that he might let himself feel for her, only to lose her in combat. Or worse, in some accident that could have been prevented.

"Frak, i hate it when you're right," he said, and he grasped the back of her neck to pull her in for a kiss.

Still reeling, trying to sort out her thoughts, Kara suddenly finds herself kissed and oh...

When she can think again, she's still kissing Dean and now she knows, this is what she wanted, this is why she refused his leaving. He was what she wanted all along and having him is so right, like coming home. She breaks the kiss, panting slightly.

"I'm always right, you'd think you'd know that after all this time." She glances up at him, almost shyly. "I'm glad you've come to your senses."

This time she kissed him, standing on her toes, but only slightly, to meet him. She wrapped her arms around his neck as she did, pulling him tight against her.

Dean doesn't have a good comeback this time, so he just puts his other arm around her waist and leans into her kiss; his fingers tangling in her shirt, and in her short hair. He did allow himself a tiny bit of smugness at not getting punched the frak out for kissin her the first time, but mostly he just enjoyed the taste of her lips on his. There was no way he could leave Galactica. Not now. Not ever.

Sensing her victory, Kara pulls back, then hugs him tightly. She looks him in the eyes again.

"Stayin', yeah?"

Dean nods, trying not to get emotional, but he might as well be the leading man in some old romantic comedy. "Yeah," he says at last, "I'm staying." After all, he wasn't going to leave her in the hands of any other greasemonkey.

It was silly to think she'd kinda ended up with a crush on an online friend, but Barry had been really insightful on some of the conspiracy boards Claudia visited to look for breadcrumbs of artifact-related shenanigans. Then he'd dropped off the grid following the particle accelerator accident. It hadn't taken that much hacking to figure out why, but finding a reason to be in the vicinity was harder.

Eventually, she just decided to take a few vacation days and check out Central City and its heroes and criminals. Covertly. And an email or two to an old friend wouldn't go awry, now, would it? Asking for pointers about what to see, or if they could try and meet for coffee.

Chatting with Claudia online was always a good way to spend an evening in Barry's mind. She was quick, bright and asking the right questions rather than buying into any conspiracy theory simply because someone saw something their uncle's cousin posted on Facebook once.

He honestly hadn't been expecting the email out of the blue - nine months away is an eternity when you're talking the internet - but Barry had responded right away. He's totally game for coffee and even playing tour guide if she has the time. For now Central is quiet(ish) and he can probably sneak off for a bit for the sake of reconnecting with a friend.

Time off is approved! Looking forward to seeing you next week! :D

That much was true. Other than when she called H.G., there really weren't a lot of people around her life that had any understanding of what she did. It was all about how quickly she could build something to counteract some artifact. Less mayhem and good company was totally worth any price. Even potentially having some superpowered weirdo show up wasn't going to get her down.

A week, two uncomfortably small commuter jets, and one rental car later, and she was pulling up to CC Jitters to find out just what went into the Flash(tm) coffee drink. And looking for the guy who actually took reasonable doubt into the bigfoot chatrooms and other such places.

One day he's going to be on time.

Today is not that day but in Barry's defense, it's not completely his fault. Criminals have no sense of timing and he has to take a quick detour to diffuse a hostage situation at the bank before whooshing back into his normal clothes and hauling it over to Jitters.

"Hey stranger," his smile is bright and warm as he heads over to the table where Claudia was waiting for him. "Sorry I'm late, got stuck in traffic on the way over."

Claudia can't help giving him a strange look at that, because even on the trip from the airport, there really hadn't been a huge amount of traffic by city standards. Still, if he felt there was something he needed to hide, she was on vacation.

"It's okay, I was just checking in with family. My brother wants me to find out whether there's any info on why the accelerator failed so spectacularly. I'm trying to ignore him," she said. "It's not like I'm running on anyone else's timetable."

"The particle accelerator? Pretty sure there are books devoted to that theory," Barry deflects as he sits down with an easy grin. "But Dr. Wells and his team are doing what they can to try and keep Central safe. I think they'd rather people look forward than back on what went wrong, you know?

"I just reminded him of how he broke his leg at CERN, so he should steer clear," Claudia admitted. "I think it's worth it to strive to find answers so that problems can be prevented. It beats checking out supposedly vivisected-by-aliens cow carcasses. It's like people never saw what happens when decay bloats something until they explode. Gotta love South Dakota for that."

She pulled out her iPhone and started flipping through some of the pictures, mostly her and Steve at some of the the more innocuous pings they'd responded to. The ones that hadn't involved artifacts. "Anything interesting out here? Besides the guy who clearly is finding new loopholes in quantum mechanics. You ever see him?"
