NONSEXUAL romance Romantic relationships, under most circumstances, have a sexual component to them. That's just another level of connection many desire with the one they love. Not so the case with you. You're with someone, and both of you very much acknowledge it's some sort of relationship, but you're not with-with them - not sexually. Whether you're just unexperienced and not ready to move to that level yet, believers in romantic friendship (or that situation is more convenient, given your time and place of residency), unable to consummate anything due to physiological differences or other issues, celibate, or simply content with the intimacy that you do have, it's a mutual decision...isn't it? Shore leave was generally the nights when they all went out together, but that didn't happen every time, obviously. The team had been splitting up more recently and while it didn't really bother North at this point, it was definitely something he was aware of.

And he'd kind of stopped going to the bars once he got Theta, anyway, since it tended to raise questions he wasn't really ready to answer. Instead he usually wandered the city or settled somewhere quiet.

At the moment, he was sitting on the beach, watching the waves roll in and talking to Theta about the adventure they'd had that day.

Shore leaves kind of sucked lately. Everyone split off, whereas they all used to hang around in a bar and have lots of fun, just talking and drinking. Wash misses those days. He'd gone to the bar on his own for a while, but he didn't drink anything, not finding it particularly fun without anyone else to drink with. So, once it became clear that he was bored and needed some company, he took to going for a walk outside, just in hopes that he might come across one of his teammates.

Fortunately, he didn't have to look too far, since as he passes the beach, his eyes settle on the man sitting in the sand. It's easily recognizable as North, which brings a faint smile to Wash's face. Altering his course, he leaves the street and walks out onto the beach quietly, staring out at the water as he moves. He only stops once he reaches North's side, and then he plops himself down into the sand beside him, sitting close enough that he can then casually lean against the other freelancer.

"Hey," he greets from where his head now rests on North's shoulder, his eyes still staring out at the water. "What're you doing out here?"

"Waiting for me," York says as he comes up behind them. He and North had decided to skip the bar scene this leave, but he'd gone for drinks anyway. They needed the help unwinding. He leans over and sets a six pack in Wash's lap, then takes a seat on North's other side. "And three makes this a party." From the pocket of his cargos a fifth of whiskey appears and he opens it and takes a sip, then leans back on his elbows in the sand.

Wash leaning into him is enough to bring a half smile to his face, one arm sliding around the rookie, York's answer interrupting before he has a chance to respond to the question.

"More or less." He snagged the fifth from York before taking a swallow of his own and then passing it back.

"Figured you'd be joining us so I told him to get beer too."

York's voice causes Wash to give a start and look round, his eyes following the other man once he spots him. His gaze only moves when there's the sudden weight in his lap, and glancing down, he realizes it's a six pack. Nodding as York continues, he flushes a little then upon being told the beer had been brought for him. Because he doesn't handle harder liquor all that well. Wash huffs a little, but doesn't actually complain, instead tugging one of the cans free and setting the rest in the sand at his side.

"You figured right. Everyone else split up and I got bored by myself. Good thing you were hanging out it an obvious spot." Smile returning to his face, he cracks open the beer and takes a quick sip. "This is nice, anyway."

"On a night like this it's the only place to be." The sky is clear and the breeze off the water cools down the summer air, which was too warm to really be comfortable in the city itself. York takes another sip from the bottle and lets his head roll to the left so he can see Wash and North, as they're on his bad side. "It's peaceful. Something we don't get a lot of."

"Soldiers aren't really meant to be peaceful." North snags the bottle again to take another drink before returning it to York and then his gaze shifts to Wash.

"Did you see my sister by any chance?"

"We are in our time off," Wash counters with a shrug. He finds himself agreeing with York here; this is the perfect place to be tonight, and the peace is nice. It's quiet, there's no stress, and it can just be them, dressed in civilian clothes and, for a moment, he can imagine that they're just normal people. "We don't get enough peace."

Gaze shifting from York to North then as the man in the middle asks a question, Wash takes a moment's pause. Eyes shifting off to the side, he appears thoughtful as he tries to recall. He had seen her when they'd first been dropped off, but since then...?

"No," he shakes his head with his answer, eyes flitting once more to North's face. There's a slightly apologetic look that crosses his face for a second then. "Sorry. I'm sure she's fine, though." Likely causing some trouble somewhere, but she'd still be fine. She always was.

York sits up again, bumping North's shoulder with his own. "Don't worry," he teases, "we'll bail her out in the morning." He doesn't actually think South will get into any trouble but it did happen that once, and he'll never forget it.

"Should we play a game?" He holds up the bottle -- what better thing is there to do with alcohol and a free night?

"Yeah, unless she ends up in the wrong bar." Because the last time she'd all but hospitalized the entire place after they'd pissed her off. Still, he couldn't be there with her all the time.

"I'm not sure I want to ask what kind of game you have in mind." He's only half joking and he glances at Wash.

"But it'd kill some time, so why not."

Okay, Wash can't help a little laugh at York's comment about bailing South in the morning. It's funny, okay? Even if he hopes that it doesn't end up being the truth, mostly because it would mean an even angrier than usual South to deal with. And no one wants that.

"A game?" He repeats, glancing between the other two. Admittedly, he's a little bit hesitant after some of the games they'd convinced him to play in the past. But at the same time... It could be fun... "Yeah, okay." Wash nods and takes another drink of his beer. "What game?"

"Well, I don't have any cards so it's probably either 'I Never' or 'Sip or Strip.' I'll let you guys choose." He pulls a coin out of his pocket just in case the vote's for that one, rolling it between his fingers. "North?"

[stabilises]

North spares a glance to Wash for a moment before glancing back at York.

"I've never probably has a better chance of all of us being in even ground so I'll go with that one."
