The Lap Pillow Meme

From TV Tropes: A good way to show the physical intimacy and trust which a couple have is to rest one's head on the other's lap. Usually, the man does the resting while the woman provides the lap, not only because of anatomical reasons but because the lap-owner is typically of a nurturing nature more associated with femininity. Bonus points if she's feeding him grapes or stroking his hair. In some cases this is done between people who are not necessarily lovers, to comfort someone who is weeping or injured.

Or, in the case of the meme: screw the rules, we'll do anything. Maybe they're tired and just found a good place to rest? Maybe both parties were asleep? Hard to tell. All we know is, someone's head is going to be on another person's lap. Shenanigans will ensue.

Asahi-kun was really very good to walk Tanaka home. After being hit in the head with one of Asahi's wayward serves (not a usual occurrence, but then Tanaka wasn't usually anywhere near the volleyball court either), he'd been kind enough to sit with Tanaka in the infirmary, then see that he made it to his class, and now it seemed the final reassurance was making sure he got home unharmed.

Tanaka normally would have just asked Ohta to come and get him, but Ohta had been out sick that day. So having someone as big and king as Asahi-kun was a welcomed presence to someone as listless as Tanaka.

On the train, Tanaka's eyes kept falling shut, and then suddenly, he slumped over into Asahi's lap, peacefully asleep. The rock of the train and Asahi's body heat were apparently very good bedtime catalysts.

[Asahi had not meant to hit anyone in the head with his serve, ever. As his serve was only getting more and more powerful, it was also becoming more dangerous. His teammates knew where not to stand, generally, when it came time for spiking practice; outsiders who were passing through the gym as a shortcut did not.

This Tanaka-kun was in no way related to the Tanaka on their team, but Asahi felt just as responsible for his injury, if not more so. He took him to the nurse, helped him to class, and insisted on taking him home; they lived in the same direction away from school.

On the train, Tanaka-kun surprised Asahi by falling asleep right in his lap. Asahi's face turned bright red, and he looked around at other train passengers, who were no doubt staring at them and making assumptions. Whenever he made eye contact with someone, they looked away quickly, probably frightened by his delinquent appearance. Which meant no one was there to give him advice on what to do about an underclassman sleeping on him.]

Ta... Tanaka-kun...?

Nope. If Asahi was going to prod at him that quietly, there was just no way he was going to get anywhere with this Tanaka-kun. Unlike the rowdy, loud, cursing member of the volleyball team, this Tanaka was mostly sleepwalking through life. Sometimes literally. If no one at school noticed him, then that just made for a more beautiful day.

Not that he minded Asahi's company. The guy made a really, really great pillow. Tanaka hummed against his lap, lips parting as his chest rose and fell.

[Asahi started to worry if maybe the hit to the head had given Tanaka-kun a concussion of some sort; was that why he wasn't waking up to his name? With building anxiety Asahi started nudging his shoulder, and repeated his name.]

Tanaka-kun, we're on the train... Are you okay?

The amount of looks they got was even worse after Tanaka started to make those sleepy humming sounds. When Asahi nudged him, the lady beside him cleared her throat and stood to move away.

Tanaka rolled, curling in and letting his arms stretch over Asahi's lap. He was like a sack of rice at this point, but he did peek his eyes open a bit at the concerned voice above him. "Mmm? I'm fine. Your lap is really comfortable. The heat from your body is like a blanket."

[If he hadn't been blushing before, Asahi was definitely blushing now; Tanaka-kun seemed to be in good shape, but now he was practically moaning and snuggling into Asahi's thick thighs. It was completely embarrassing; everyone in the train car probably thought they were dating, but they'd only met that morning!!

And with Tanaka-kun so obviously happy and comfortable, it was hard for Asahi to know what to say.]

O-Oh...

Tanaka didn't think about dating or sex much. Or at least, he didn't think it was viable for him at this stage in his life. He would love to have sex, of course, like any boy his age, but dating sounded very tiring and tedious and sex seemed to have a lot of moving parts. If he could get there without exerting too much effort, he certainly wouldn't mind a partner like Asahi, who was big and strong and good looking.

"I'm not concussed, so you don't have to worry." A pause. "Is this uncomfortable for you?"

Are you a mind reader? [Asahi gaped down at him. How did he know Asahi was worried he'd had a concussion? Had he said anything out loud?] A-Ah... it's a little... s-strange. People are staring...

"I don't normally notice other people." Tanaka closed his eyes, then strained, as if it took every last ounce of strength in him to push himself up off Asahi's lap. Which it did. He leaned back against the seat as the train jostled to and fro. "But I'm sorry. I don't want to embarrass you." Even so, his shoulder remained in contact with Asahi's. "It's very nice of you to make sure I get home."

[Asahi immediately missed Tanaka's warmth, though he was grateful that his personal space was a little less crowded. A simple shoulder touch, he could handle. Still, he felt a bit shamed having made Tanaka move his position.]

I-It's fine, I'm just easily embarrassed. So it's really mostly my fault. And, um, it's nothing, to help you home... I just want to make sure you're really okay...

"I've never been hit by a volleyball before," Tanaka said. "But I feel fine." He let the sway of the train sway him as well, until he started to slump against Asahi. "Do you want to come in for tea when we get to my house?"

I don't want to impose...

[Asahi hadn't considered that he would be invited into Tanaka's house. Did people usually invite you in after you attacked them with high speed sports equipment?]

But, I think I do want to help you get inside. So that I can be sure and everything...

Tanaka's pretty bad at reading people when they're this nice. Does Asahi like him? It isn't the worst thing to think about. Tanaka's standards for attraction include: his partner being big and strong enough to carry him around. So in that case, Asahi would more than do.

"Mm. I don't think anyone will be home yet, but I can make tea."

Maybe when we get there, you should lie down. I can make the tea, if that's okay.

[He was absolutely wracked with guilt about hitting Tanaka, that much was obvious. But also, he sort of liked this person; he was certainly a lot more Asahi's speed than most of the people on the volleyball team, except for the personal space thing. He was a bit like Ennoshita, but more forthcoming.]

When we get there, you should lie down.

Those were heavensent words. And only added to Tanaka's impression that Asahi liked him as more than just a casual acquaintance met after being hit in the head with a ball. Did he mean lay down or lay down? Either way, it meant Tanaka would be in a bed or at the kotatsu, so that was perfect.

"Okay. My stop is the next one."

[Asahi looked out of the window to see where they were, and then nodded; this was just a few stops from his house, enough that he still knew the area.]

Okay, Tanaka-kun. Don't forget your bag, or anything. Is your house far from the station?

"Mm, a five minute walk for someone as tall as you." Slowly, Tanaka tried to get to his feet to prepare for the walk that would take them ten minutes at his speed. He couldn't quite manage. And that had nothing to do with being hit in the head with a volleyball. "Would it be very strange of me to ask to be carried?"

He didn't like asking. But Ohta, his normal carrier, wasn't there. And if Asahi liked him, he'd have to get used to this.

C-Carried? [Asahi echoed, worried he'd misheard.] Oh no, I didn't actually hurt you somehow, did I? Like maybe when you fell you hurt your leg??

"My legs aren't broken, and I'm not concussed," Tanaka reassured him. He placed his hand on Asahi's bicep. It was huge under his slim, lazy fingers. "I'm tired though, and you seem like you'd be strong enough to carry me without strain."

[Asahi was beginning to wonder if he was just being taken advantage of... but it was hard for him to say no to Tanaka-kun, even so. He could already hear Suga's voice in his head telling him to grow a spine, but he felt guilty for the accident earlier.]

O-Okay... in that case... If it's what you want, Tanaka-kun...

It was much easier with Ohta-kun, since Ohta was used to carrying Tanaka and never seemed to mind. He didn't want to inconvenience Asahi...but if they were going to do things at his empty house, then he should really rest up so he could use some energy then to make it worthwhile.

"It's just easier," Tanaka said, slumping against Asahi's side in preparation to be carried. Usually Ohta did it like he was a sack of rice, but he wouldn't have minded bridal style or over the shoulder either.

[As the train pulled into the stop, Asahi started fretting more and more. How was he supposed to carry Tanaka-kun to his home. Was he going to ride on his back? Should he pick him up somehow? In the end, Asahi held his arms out a little helplessly and hoped Tanaka-kun would just do what he did.]

That.... That actually sort of made Tanaka smile. Enough of a smile to know he could show a gentle range of emotions, anyway. This guy was really kind of cute. He was so very big and yet so very uneasy with his size.

"Just hoist me up. I won't break." He definitely didn't have the strength to lift Asahi's arm and show him where to put it, so instead he just scooted a little closer, allowing all his weight, slight as it was, to fold into Asahi's side. "Right around the middle's fine."

[Having some verbal direction was a little more comforting, even though Asahi was still pretty freaked out about carrying someone else in the first place. He wrapped his arm around Tanaka's middle like he was instructed, and lifted him up as he got to his feet. Asahi knew he was big, but marveled at how easy it was to lift Tanaka right up anyways; he was even smaller than Asahi had realized.

And then he had to run off the train before the doors closed and they ended up at the next stop.]

I-Is this alright??

It was different from Ohta, and Tanaka wondered if that had anything to do with the fact that he knew now Asahi must like him, so he was seeing his classmate differently now. He didn't like Ohta in that way, after all.

"You're very strong, and I don't weigh much at all," he said contently, practically sparkling with happiness. "And you're so warm. I like that."

[Asahi was red in the face, and it wasn't from exertion. This kid was more shameless and blunt than anyone he'd ever met!]

R-Right... Um. Which way is your house, Tanaka-kun...?

Tanaka was just too lazy to worry about what he looked or sounded like. But Asahi was pretty cute when he got that red. Since it didn't take much effort, Tanaka thought he could get used to seeing that.

"Left at this corner, then straight for five blocks. Thank you, Asahi-kun."

[Asahi nodded a bit dumbly and mumbled "you're welcome" before he started off following Tanaka's directions. Taking the left turned them down a small side street, with mostly homes and a convenience store at every other corner or so. When they got to the fifth block, Asahi slowed his pace.]

Which house is it? Do you have a key?

[ up for being either the pillow or in someone's lap! ]

Waaaaaaah!

[ A portal opens up above Orihime, bright colors and swirling lights, when sunddenly a young girl comes falling out of the portal in the sky and lands right on top of Orihime. ]

That was such a doozy!

[If you're interested, I know both are 'injured' souls and Orihime's a healer by nature, but since Bud's the older, larger presence, maybe do a role reversal and have him be the comforter?}
