Erik was trying to get a fire to start under the outcropping of rubble they'd found. It used to be a building. The remains of an upper floor provided some shelter, but he had no dry matches. It had been pouring rain all day.

She was miserable. Cold, soaked to the bone and still somehow shocked at the world quite literally falling around everyone's ears. Choices had been made and survival had become a much more literal thing. Give her a crazy guy with a knife over the end of civilization any day.

"Rocks," she suggested, the first word of the past two hours or so before pushing to her feet. "If any of that shit is dry enough to even smoke."

He looked at her over his shoulder, watching her get to her feet.

"Some of it is. I found it in the rubble. Probably used to be furniture."

Some of it probably wasn't. It was hard to find things that were dry on a wet day.

"Where are you going?" he asked, rooting around the rubble for a couple of decent rocks.

"To a warm beach in the Caribbean where they serve tequila shots and I can take a piss without answering twenty questions." Still, she didn't walk any further then the cover of the roofing, arms wrapped tightly around her waist as she stared hatefully at the rain.

"I'm trying to keep my ass and legs from falling asleep," Devi answered more honestly with a brief sidelong glance over her shoulder at him. "We could use cloth or tinder or something, but going out to get it is asking to make it useless." Wet.

They were making their way through a forest, sun setting behind them. Davy pulled his horse to a halt and sighed loudly. "I think we gotta camp. It's gettin' dark, an' there's too many trees ahead, ya know?"

He glanced sideways at his partner-- at Nico, a little nervously. The boy was younger, but definitely more used to this survival thing, especially away from grown up men.

Nico's hand hovered over the pummel of his sword as he looked ahead. He pursed his lips.

"Yeah. Okay."

His hand fell away and, with a small sigh, he glanced over at his companion. He wasn't thrilled about stopping, and his face reflected that pretty clearly. But more important than that was his unwillingness to put Davy in a situation he couldn't fight his way out of.

"Is here fine?" Nico looked around the area. "I'd suggest that clearing over that way, but I think that's asking for an attack."

Davy looked over at the clearing and shivered. He shook his head, and tried to regain the authority his father had drilled into him.

"No, we'll rest here," he said firmly (glancing at Nico's reaction). "We'll eat, and sleep in shifts. I'll take first watch, and set traps."

Nico took a moment, looking over at Davy. The sureness in his voice surprised Nico.

"I can take first watch," he offered. He doubted he'd be able to sleep anyway.

It was nothing short of a miracle. They found a house with running water, and Sheik had let out an incredible sigh of relief that he didn't know he was holding in. With water they would survive. It had been days since they found any, and now there was a spring of it.

"I'm going to find containers. Anything we can use to store it." A tiny part of him was fearful that the water might not come back if he stopped it, so be let the water run and fill up the bathroom tub. "Maybe we will have enough to wash ourselves with." The luxury of a world they'd lost.

Sheik had never been so utterly alone with someone, and never for so long, but he trusted Wanda. He would fight to keep them both safe, and he suspected she was willing to do the same.
