Some characters can't just rush into things, especially things like love or sex. These characters need a partner who will take things slow, explore each other fully before taking the leap. They need someone they can trust.

[ Breaking into the Raft is a little more tedious alone, but Steve hadn't been willing to compromise Bucky anymore than he already has, hadn't wanted to risk more than he had to from the start. Considering how careful he forces himself to be without the shape of the shield as a familiar weight on his arm or against his back, he makes good timing disabling the guards and other security measures that let him in where they're being held. He'd put them there; it only seemed fair to let them out. He heads for Sam first, trusts him to handle Barton and Lang while he goes for Wanda, and Steve tries to keep his expression neutral as he breaks her restraints, slips his fingers carefully under the collar to crush the lock. This isn't what he'd wanted for her, all those arguments with Tony pulling under his skin as he offers her a faint smile and takes her hand.

Once their gear is secured, they leave the prison behind. Once they hit land, they split up.

Steve knows it's probably better that Wanda goes with Clint, maybe lays low with someone who isn't as huge a target as he is, but there's that selfishness bleeding into responsibility that has him pairing with her instead. The initial plan is to rendezvous with Bucky the long way around, take their time and watch their backs, and it should be easier with someone as formidable as Wanda on his side, it should be smoother. It's not exactly how he feels though, the bitterness of guilt souring his thoughts through finding a room in some small town. No one recognizes them. At least it's something. Steve shuts the door once he returns, a bundle of clothes in his arms he'd asked the young woman downstairs for. They had to blend in better, and he offers them to her wordlessly before his conscience gets the better of him, fingers closing around her wrist to keep her close. His mouth thins. ]

I'm sorry. [ It's the first real thing he's said to her since their escape, and his other hand comes up to brush her cheek, touching the smudge of dirt across her jaw with his thumb. ] When I asked for your help, this isn't how I wanted it to go.

Seeing Rhodey like this wasn't right. He was supposed to be out there flying and kicking ass. He was supposed to be fighting the bad guys right next to Tony. But instead he was here, stuck in this bed. Unable to use his legs without being in pain.

Tony hated it. This was his fault. This had happened because he... because Steve, because all of them couldn't talk. And now Rhodey was paying the price.

He entered the room with bag from Shake Shack (not as good as In-N-Out, but it was fine for being an east coast thing). Maybe some grub would cheer things up.

"Hey, Rhodey. Feeling any better?" It was a stupid question to ask. Pointless, even.
