Age of Sail Meme

Welcome to the high seas and the Caribbean, in the Golden Age of Sail—and Piracy! Hoist anchors and set sail, because there’s adventure—and treasure—on the horizon.


Roles:
Piracy
A. Ship captain, of course, would you be found anywhere else? Command and the sea, those are your callings. Along with, of course, plunder.
B. Quartermaster, elected representative of the crew’s interests, and with power to veto the Captain’s decisions whenever the ship is not engaged in battle.
C. Crew. You’re in it for the plunder, and can’t be bothered with those pesky decisions. Unless, just maybe, you’ve got a mutiny in mind.
D. Cabin boy. Lowest in rank and newest on the ship, without any sailing experience of your own, but you’ll work your way up.

The Law
E. Pirate-hunter. Maybe you’re working freelance, taking bounties where you find them, or maybe you are an officer of a royal navy, but either way, you’re tasked with bringing those lawless pirates to justice. There’s money in it, and glory for you.
F. Governor. You are the law, in your little corner of the Caribbean. Troops from the homeland, money and resources are yours, but anarchy is just one mistake away, and the pirates are always threatening your ships and those of your traders.
G. Honest sailor. You follow orders and don’t ask too many questions about them. Or the cargo.

Land-Lubbers
H. Innkeeper or Brothel Madam. When the pirates and sailors come into town, they’re going to need food, drink, and companionship. You’re here to provide that.
I. Shipwright. Ships and repairs, it’s all your business. You’re willing to serve any customer, and you don’t ask too many questions.

J. Wildcard! Who would your character be in the Golden Age of Sail?

Currently, Captain Thomas Morgan was on the island of Tortuga ensconced in a tavern. The place was a favorite hangout for his ilk. He was bound to run into both friend and foe there. Though there was an uneasy truce once you were inside.

He wasn't there long when he saw an old mate swagger through the door. "Charlie! Pull up a chair and have a pint."

Kurt Darkholme (Nightcrawler) | Marvel Comics | OTA

[Quartermaster option:

Right-hand man and son to Raven Darkholme, captain of the massive Cold Grey. Formerly known as the Brimstone, the ship was renamed after the mysterious disappearance of its former captain Azazel. Kurt and his mother are a force to be reckoned with in public, though rumors abound of violent arguments over Raven's brutal treatment of prisoners and her lack of compunction about bilking the less fortunate.

Captain option:

One final argument led to Kurt striking out on his own in the X-Calibre, a smaller ship that suffers none in deadliness or speed compared to the Cold Grey. Originally accompanied by a woman named Damask (of whom it's rumored the final argument centered around) as his quartermaster, after her own mysterious disappearance Kurt Darkholme stands in both roles. Though his treatment of prisoners is more humane and his code of honor existent, he is no less a vicious terror on the seas.

The two men walking in behind Captain Vane--ah, no, one of them wasn't a man at all, though that wide-brimmed hat and the slouch made it hard to tell--went still before Vane did, hands straying toward gun and sword hilts as they tensed for a fight.

Vane's stride slowed, head turning toward the voice like a lazy tiger that had just heard movement in the grass.

"Thought I made clear," he said. He didn't bother raising his voice, but the tavern around him went silent nonetheless. Striding over with a calm, unhurried pace, he drew his knife and planted it in the centre of the table. "That if you called me Charlie again I'd cut out your tongue and feed it to you."

His body language said threat, and the knife on the table was all too ready to make good on it, but there was a glint of humour in his eyes that an old friend would recognise. Good to see you, too.
