He loves them all. They're a part of him but...but...

Grant Ward's memories surface. Memories with Daisy, memories with Kara Lynn Palamas. Intimate memories.

He has no memories of if he ever had anyone like this. Human beings feel so intensely he is made up of walking ghosts, impacted emotions. There was one sacrifice - in the 1800s? who had a long discourse about that. Who had believed he was a being made up of ghosts and that ghosts were memories from long ago.

You're just ghosts... Hive watches Grant Ward with his arms around Kara, Melinda May, what he wanted with Daisy -

Hive dismisses that. He's seen enough love to know that what this man had with Daisy Johnson was an infatuation based upon a being who had very little, who had almost nothing. Hive spares him a moment of pity, leaving Grant Ward with his memories of Kara Lynn Palamas and the hot summer sun on their entertwined bodies and returns his thoughts to Daisy. There is something about her that draws people. She is a flame. People come to her warmth.

He has never...had this ability. Even though he should. It is his duty, to align the inhumans. To keep them safe. To connect them. Or if he did...

That's what 'wakes' him. The hive is unaware. They're addicted to his presence but they lead their own lives. He is their bread.

(A priest he was in the 17th century begins mumbling the benediction and Hive silences him with a mental word before he makes his way down the street of his town to the bar that they are known to frequent and opens the door.

He must appear benevolent. He is both father and king. Lord. They are doing work, good work here.

Alisha is on her feet, pouring him a beer. He accepts it as a matter of course. Alcohol is one of the few things he can actually consume without difficulty. His host is - after all - dead.

He sits next to Daisy, heedless of any of the others before looking into each of their faces in turn, and holds the glass.]

And while memory serves that bars are places of happiness they are also places of sadness.
